Celine’s Winter 2024 collection was a celebration of the brand’s rich heritage. For inspiration, Hedi Slimane looked back on a monumental era for Celine: the 1960s, when the House, helmed by founder Celine Vipiana, made its foray into luxury ready-to-wear.
Key to these origins was a fateful afternoon when Vipiana found herself stranded on the streets of Paris, after her car broke down. It was here that she noticed a chain link decorative pattern encircling the Arc De Triomphe – a design that would later become Celine’s monogram. Decades on, the pattern has remained an integral motif for Celine: when Hedi Slimane arrived at the brand in 2018, he introduced a modernised version, which reappears now, collection after collection.
It makes sense, then, that the Triomphe logo would feature heavily in the brand’s latest offering, emblazoned onto sunglasses, handbags, and belts. In addition to paying tribute to this iconic emblem, the Winter collection captured the elegant essence of the 1960s, via plenty of ultra mod two sets, high hemlines, and cropped jackets – a distinct shift from the sorority-girl vibes of the Summer 24 ‘Tomboy’ collection.
The Winter 24 runway was also the setting for the beginning of an iconic chapter in Celine’s history: the introduction of Celine Beauté. Expanding on the house’s perfume collection, which launched in 2019, Celine Beaute will launch a 15-shade strong ‘Rouge Celine’ lipstick line – which models wore on the runway in the shade ‘La Peau Nue’ Rose Naturel. The Celine Beauté collection is slated for launch in Autumn this year, with the first satin lipstick shade ‘Rouge Triomphe.’
