While the dropping weather might have us switching out our vibrant summer dresses for classic neutrals and textured layers, FENDI is keeping the warm months alive with its latest colourful capsule collection. Injected with a joyful, uplifting (and completely irresistible mood), the Summer 2021 collection, Vertigo, is a psychedelic ode to the ’70s, featuring everything from sophisticated and eye-catching bags and accessories to compelling ready-to-wear, with each piece a celebration of the house’s signature FF ballad.
The house’s iconic craftsmanship and innovated, forward-thinking approach sits centre stage in its latest offering, while a seventies aesthetic weaves in perfectly thanks to its twisted prints and unique silhouettes. In keeping with tradition, FENDI’s latest launch was crafted in collaboration with New York-based visual artist Sarah Coleman, who is best known for her “disruptive manipulation of designers’ materials that she employees to rethink and repurpose everyday objects with an ironic filter,” says FENDI.
Coleman last joined forces with the brand in 2020, taking on their Miami Design District FENDI boutique to craft a space that felt retro, classic and fun—all pillars that make up the backbone of her work—which featured prints warped and manipulated via FaceTune, along with a reinterpretation of FENDI’s FF and Pequin logos.
“Sarah has a great sense of artistic fun and clever irony. I was naturally drawn to her work and we first explored a collaboration with our Miami Design District boutique during Design Miami last December,” Venturini Fendi said in a statement, per WWD. “We always love to partner with new designers who share the values of FENDI, yet with their own personal style. Sarah not only values craft but challenges it with her subversive sense of humour, taking it into new directions.”
The result? The reinvented FF Vertigo, a new magnetic motif offering a twisted and trippy version of the house’s classic FF logo. FENDI also peppered its Peekaboo X-Tote and the Baguette 1997 with the FF Fisheye motif, adding a wavy and fluid edge to the classic.
The campaign video released this week, seen above, shows more from the collection, including belts, headwear, chunky sandals and sneakers.
“My intention for the collection with FENDI was to be very playful and free,” says Coleman. “Silvia asked me to be ‘disruptive,’ to push the limits and get outside of the box, this gave me a huge amount of inspiration and confidence. She is so authentic to herself and the brand with a visionary’s perspective. I was so empowered by Silvia and the FENDI team to be myself. It was an incredible experience and I really cannot find words to express my gratitude.”
