Kate Middleton Is Here To Remind Everyone Who The Future Queen Of England Is

Tiara, jewels and Alexander McQueen gown

The past few weeks, it’s been all about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex with their royal baby news and tour of Australia and New Zealand

Back in Britain, Prince William and Kate Middleton are holding down the fort, attending a formal banquet for the Queen and King of the Netherlands at Buckingham Palace last night.

The Duchess of Cambridge could not have looked more regal for the special occasion, wearing a tiara, jewels and a blue Alexander McQueen gown.

But perhaps the most interesting part of Kate’s outfit was the yellow pin on her dress. Named The Royal Family Order, the pin is given by Queen Elizabeth to female members of the family as a personal designation. It is extremely rare, represents honour, and is only worn at the most formal of events.

Queen Elizabeth famously never let Sarah Ferguson wear the pin, which she has only lent to a few royal family members, including her daughter-in-law, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall. Diana, Princess of Wales, also wore the pin back in 1981.

Meghan Markle hasn’t yet had the honour, but given she only joined the royal family in May, we’d say her time is yet to come.
