What’s in a look? It’s a question editors ask themselves every time fashion week rolls around. Beyond the pretty facade, there’s always a deeper meaning to every outfit: whether it be political, cultural, or even sexual, in Christopher Kane’s sake.
For London Fashion Week, designers looked to their broader communities when conceptualising their collections. From the duality of British culture at Burberry to the more-is-more approach at J.W. Anderson, Brit designers took no holds when it came to providing us with an antidote to boring. Instead, collections were packed with mood, personality and feeling. Below, our editors weigh in on the runway looks that stole our hearts and will soon steal our wallets, too.
MONICA RUSSELL, Market Editor:
Simone Rocha
I’m obsessed with all things Simone Rocha, but particularly this double layered trench look. Love the masculine vs feminine contrast with the juxtaposition of the chunky leather lace-up brogues vs the dainty pearl jewels.
Peter Pilotto
This look is heaven! So beautiful and feminine. I love the peach stockings popping out from underneath and this velvet purse has shot straight to the top of my wish list.
J.W. Anderson
Woke up to this J.W Anderson look all over my Instagram and can’t get enough! I love the XL balloon sleeves and contrast check trim on the trench. Also how cute is the leather cap handbag?!
JANA POKORNY, Fashion Director:
J.W. Anderson
Obsessed with all the long, layered looks like this one from J.W. Anderson.
Victoria Beckham
Victoria Beckham’s silk dress with red booties is a combination I love.
FRANCESCA WALLACE, Senior Digital Fashion Editor:
Molly Goddard
Call me a broken record, but every time I see a Molly Goddard tulle dress I just can’t help but smile. It was no different this season, and the suit pants styled underneath were the perfect antidote to the girly facade. In love!
Rejina Pyo
I love Rejina Pyo’s way with fabrics, so this textured coat/pant set is perfect to me. Add in that square snakeskin box bag and we’ve got a winner.
Isabelle Truman, Assistant Digital Content Manager
RIXO London
This isn’t a look specifically, but I’m obsessed with all things RIXO and couldn’t wait to see their London Fashion Week presentation, which was filled with the sequin dresses, floral prints and bags – yes, they do bags now! – of my dreams.
