If there was any doubt about who would close the 2026 Met Gala red carpet, the question answered itself the moment Rihanna arrived — fashionably and characteristically late — at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

For her twelfth Met Gala, the singer wore a sculptural metallic dress with bejeweled makeup, arriving with a pink suit-clad A$AP Rocky. The look was a creation from Maison Margiela’s Fall 2025 Couture collection by Glenn Martens — an intricate long-sleeve base layer encrusted with hundreds of gemstones and jewels, topped with a metallic bronze shroud that draped around her shoulders and transformed into a column skirt.

The close-up details were equally exquisite: multiple cocktail rings, including a 1930s-era three-carat diamond sparkler from Fred Leighton, diamond-studded hoops, and bejeweled ear cuffs. Her beauty look matched the drama, with stick-on gems at the outer corners of both eyes and golden curl-cue pins scattered throughout a slicked-back hair.

Per tradition, Rihanna marked the close of the red carpet as the last to arrive and pose for photographs on the Met’s iconic steps. It is a ritual that has become as much a part of the evening as the theme itself.

Her Met Gala legacy stretches back nearly two decades. Though she first attended in 2007, it was her 2015 appearance in a majestic Guo Pei canary-yellow gown with a fur-trimmed cape that cemented her as a highlight of the annual fundraiser — instantly earning her a place on best-dressed lists and launching a wave of memes that endure to this day.

In the years since, she has worked with Comme des Garçons, John Galliano for Maison Margiela, Balenciaga, and Valentino, never once arriving without consequence.

Most recently, at the 2025 gala honouring “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” she wore a pinstriped suit gown by Marc Jacobs, complete with a polka-dot ascot and an off-kilter black top hat — while visibly pregnant with her third child, daughter Rocki Irish Mayers, who joined sons RZA Athelston Mayers and Riot Rose Mayers to complete the family.
