‘The Last Thing He Told Me’ Is The New Thriller Series Sure To Have You Hooked

Julia Roberts and Reese Witherspoon are (finally) joining forces.

Think of any ’90s (in fact, even modern) classic films and you’ll find they often have one similarity—they feature leading ladies Reese Witherspoon or Julia Roberts. The two American actresses, since their careers began, have fronted some of the world’s most beloved classics, from Pretty Woman to Legally Blonde, which is why it’s so surprising the pair have never joined forces.

Until now, that is. Witherspoon and Roberts have officially signed on to a new project together, The Last Thing He Told Me, an upcoming limited series for AppleTV+ being produced by Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine.

The Series Will Be Based On Laura Dave’s Novel.

The limited series will be based on Laura Dave’s novel of the same name. According to Deadline, the series was co-created by Oscar-winner Josh Singer (Spotlight) and follows Hannah (Roberts) who forms an unexpected relationship with her 16-year-old stepdaughter, Bailey, while searching for the truth about why her husband mysteriously disappeared. It’s as suspenseful as it is tragic, and explores the incredible bond between the unlikely pair.

Witherspoon Shared Working With Roberts Was A “Childhood Dream.”

In 2020, Witherspoon shared the news that Roberts had signed on to star and executive produce The Last Thing He Told Me“I’m working with @juliaroberts and all of my childhood dreams are coming true,” the Big Little Lies actress posted to Instagram. “Thank you to @lauradaveauthor for her brilliant book (I can’t wait for everyone to read it!) and thank you to @appletv for making this happen.”

Apart From Witherspoon And Roberts, No Other Cast Members Have Been Announced.

So far we know that Roberts will be taking on the film’s title character of Hannah, and we know Witherspoon is set to appear (only as who remains to be seen). Other than that, details around its cast have yet to be announced—but with those two A-listers already confirmed we can assume there are going to be some big names attached to the project.

As for the future of the book? Dave has big plans. “I know exactly where I would pick up with Hannah, Owen, and Bailey—and I love the idea of imagining their next chapter,” she told Popsugar

While we wait for our next mutch-watch to land on our screens, you can read Laura Dave’s book here.
