There’s no denying that any Wes Anderson film is bound to be jam-packed with a Hollywood A-list cast. And the French Dispatch writer and director looks to have a certain homegrown celebrity in mind for his latest project.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Margot Robbie is set to join the cast of Anderson’s latest flick, marking her first collaboration with the director and adding to her already bountiful resume of past projects with the world’s best filmmakers, from Quentin Tarantino to Martin Scorsese.
The publication stipulates that Robbie is participating in a supporting role and will see her join Tom Hanks, another first-timer in an Anderson creation.
Back in July, a plethora of Anderson’s film favourites have also joined the already star-studded cast, including Tilda Swinton who is set to star alongside Bill Murray and Adrien Brody, all of whom have starred in The French Dispatch.
As for what the film is about, details surrounding Anderson’s upcoming project have remained incredibly scarce. This past May, filming sets were spotted around the outskirts of Chinchón, Spain, with paparazzi spotting a mock train station and other landscapes, swirling rumours that the film is set to become a Western.
However, reports have disclosed that Anderson’s film is not technically in that genre, thanks to confirmation from Swinton herself. Despite the Spanish shooting location, she teased that the film is “not about Spain”.
After a series of never ending delays due to the pandemic, The French Dispatch is set to finally arrive in cinemas come October 22.

The film is said to be “a love letter to journalists set at an outpost of an American newspaper in a fictional 20th-century French city”, that follows three separate stories published in the eponymous The French Dispatch. Based in the fictional French city of Ennui-sur-Blasé, the film is apparently inspired by Anderson’s love of The New Yorker, with some characters and events in the film reportedly based on real-life equivalents from the magazine.
As for Robbie, she is set to star in the lead role in Greta Gerwig’s upcoming take on Barbie, a role that Robbie notes comes with “a lot of baggage… and a lot of nostalgic connections”.
