New portraits of Meghan Markle & Prince Harry taken mere days before Queen Elizabeth II’s death have been released, and they show an intimate, hidden moment that many of us missed.
Prior to Her Majesty passing away, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were visiting the United Kingdom for multiple engagements, including the One Young World Summit in Manchester. Marking their return to the UK, Meghan even took part in a speech in front of a crowd of future leaders, where she donned a deconstructed pussy-bow blouse and matching trousers and Harry sported a classic black suit.
Now, almost one-month after that monumental week in the royals’ lives, Meghan and Harry‘s photographer Misan Harriman shared a series of behind-the-scenes images of the couple “moments before” they entered the opening ceremony.
In the first photo, Meghan exudes confidence in the ensemble mentioned above, staring straight into the camera lens, while holding her husband’s hand. In the second photo, the couple were photographed in black-and-white and held hands even firmer than they did before.
Harriman, as we know, is the same person who was behind the lens for that iconic photo of the Sussex family, when Meghan was pregnant with their second child, Lilibet Diana.
“Meg, I was there at your wedding to witness this love story begin, and my friend, I am honoured to capture it grow,” Harriman wrote in a tweet, alongside the image back in February. “Congratulations to The Duke and Duchess of Sussex on this joyous news!”
In an interview with British Vogue, Hariman spoke of their relationship with Meghan and Harry and praised how the pair go through life as a team.
“With the tree of life behind them and the garden representing fertility, life and moving forward, they didn’t need any direction, because they are, and always have been, waltzing through life together as absolute soulmates.”
Harriman met Meghan long ago when attending a charity event, and while there, he noticed how comfortable she and Harry were chatting to each other that they barely even noticed Harriman taking one of the most memorable photos of them.
“When you see people who have the connection that they have, it’s like reading the pages of a book,” he said about the couple when referring to “their truth”.
While the Nigerian photographer has been part of the couple’s lives since the very beginning, he felt that his work after finding out about the Duchess’ miscarriage was particularly poignant.
“To be asked to help share this absolute joy after such an unimaginable loss and heartache is a marker of true friendship,” Harriman said. “Meg reminded me that had I not introduced her to a mutual friend then she wouldn’t have met Harry. I’m grateful for whatever small part I played.”
