The clip went viral almost instantly after New York Times reporter Kyle Buchanan posted, “Something has activated Leonardo DiCaprio during this commercial break.”

Lip readers noted repeated references to “K-pop,” prompting mass speculation that he was reacting to KPop Demon Hunters, which had just won Best Original Song and Best Animated Feature.
Deaf content creator Jackie G later offered a translation of the exchange, suggesting DiCaprio was teasing the person opposite him for their facial expressions during the K-pop segment, mimicking their confusion and asking, “Is that K-pop? Who is the K-pop?” before dissolving into laughter.
Eventually, the mystery was solved. The recipient of DiCaprio’s enthusiasm was his One Battle After Another co-star, Teyana Taylor.
“He was talking to me,” Taylor confirmed to Access Hollywood, before immediately admitting she remembers almost none of it.
“I’m so blacked out from that day,” she said, explaining she’d been excited because her kids love KPop Demon Hunters and she was “over there just jammin, and I think he caught me jammin and that’s when we started talking about it, but I just don’t remember what he was saying. I don’t even think I really even heard what he was saying.”
“I was probably just laughing and kee-keeing back and had no clue what he was saying,” she added.
The K-pop moment was just one note in what can only be described as DiCaprio’s surprisingly expressive evening.
He was also caught animatedly telling Julia Roberts “that’s star power!” after they were photographed together, and delivered a series of visible reactions during Nikki Glaser’s opening monologue, where she gleefully dismantled his dating history.
