Australian actress and marie claire’s December cover star, Rose Byrne took home her first Golden Globe for Best Female Actor in a Musical or Comedy for her role in psychological genre-bending If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.
It was the 46-year-old’s night from the moment she stepped onto the carpet at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles in an emerald green draped silk gown from Chanel that featured more than 4,600 embroidered glass pearls and crystals.
Her true time to shine however, came with the announcement of her Golden Globes win.
Despite the clear shock she was experiencing, in true Rose style, the Bridesmaids actress turned on her comedic charm to send the crowd into giggles.
“This is such a shock. Thank you so much. I share this with Mary Bronstein, my writer and director. She wrote this unbelievable screenplay, and she wanted me to do it. I can’t believe that you wanted me to do it,” Byrne began before thanking a slew of cast of crew.
She also thanked her date for the night, who was, much to the surprise of many, not her husband Bobby Cannavale of more than a decade but her brother, George.
“I want to thank my husband, Bobby, who couldn’t be here because we’re getting a bearded dragon and he went to a reptile expo in New Jersey.””So, thank you. Thank you, baby,” she hilariously added.
Byrne beat out the likes of Cynthia Erivo, Kate Hudson and Chase Infiniti who she was up against in the category.
Written and directed by Mary Bronstein and starring Rose Byrne, the film follows a mother who is the sole carer for her chronically ill young child.
As she juggles medical bureaucracy, financial strain, isolation, and the emotional toll of constant responsibility, her inner life begins to fracture. The film straddles psychological thriller and dark comedy, to stay tightly focused on her perspective, capturing anxiety, resentment, love, and exhaustion in a way that’s often uncomfortable but very human.
