Fashion Month’s Most Wearable Beauty Look Is Also Its Most Unexpected

Dior's fine flashes of silver glitter make a compelling case for bringing a little sparkle back

There are runway beauty looks designed to be admired, and then there are the ones you immediately start considering trying for yourself. At Dior’s 2027 Spring/Summer show in Paris, Peter Philips, Creative and Image Director for Dior Makeup, managed to create something that sits rather beautifully between the two.

For Jonathan Anderson’s latest collection, Philips paired an almost entirely pared-back face with an unexpected flash of silver. “We went for a nude, healthy, glowy face with some silver accents on the eyes,” he explained of the look.

It sounds simple, but the placement is what makes the look particularly interesting (and surprisingly easy to translate into your own routine). Rather than washing shimmer across the lids, Philips used silver almost as punctuation on the eye. There wasn’t just one source of subtle sparkle inspiration, either. “Some girls get a solid silver wing end on the outer corner of the eye, and some get the thinnest silver metallic eyeliner across the top lash line,” Philips noted.

The effect is noticeable, without taking over the face. From some angles, it’s just visible, and from others (especially when the glitter flecks or reflective silver catch the light) it’s rather striking. Glitter, by its very nature, isn’t exactly known for restraint, but the precision of the placement gives it exactly that.

It also makes the look pretty achievable, at least by runway standards. Translating it isn’t a matter of recreating an elaborate eyeshadow blend; it’s arguably about resisting the temptation to add more. A narrow metallic line tucked against the lashes or accentuating the outer corners of the eyes gives you a point of difference without requiring much else.

Against clean skin, natural brows and barely-there lip colour, a makeup finish usually reserved for more maximalist looks feels surprisingly effortless. Philips illuminated and evened out the skin before applying a light dusting of powder and touches of the Dior Backstage Glassy Glow Stick in Glossy Jelly ($80 at Dior) and the Dior Backstage Rosy Glow Stick in either Rosewood or Toffee ($80 at Dior). Reaching for these dewy-finish formulas allowed Philips to add life and colour that “melts into the skin” seamlessly.

Lips were “enhanced every so slightly” with Dior Addict Lip Maximiser in Pink ($67 at Dior), the final step in finessing a softly polished face, allowing the ideal beauty backdrop for the touches of glitter.

Even the loose, beachy-textured waves reinforced the ease of it all. Nothing surrounding the silver feels too finished, which is perhaps why the glitter works so well. And while there’s an obvious appeal to a glint of silver as summer and party season approach, this doesn’t read as obligatory festive glitter.

That distinction is precisely what makes it worth noting. Dior’s version is less about sparkle for sparkle’s sake and more about the magic of using something so eye-catching almost feel understated.

Philips’ metallic masterpieces have convinced us that the easiest way to make glitter feel fresh again is by simply knowing when to stop.
