Last week, it was reported that Matt Smith, who plays Prince Philip in seasons one and two of The Crown, and his girlfriend of five years Downtown Abbey actress, Lily James, had quietly ended their relationship a few months ago, with those close to the British pair saying that they’ve been “over for a while” and that their intense work schedules were to blame.

Now, rumours are swirling that Matt and his co-star Claire Foy, who plays Queen Elizabeth II on the Netflix drama, might be dating in real life, something that The Daily Mail alleges could’ve played a part in Matt and Lily’s split.

Matt and Claire have long been good friends and were recently cast as husband and wife for the second time in the play Lungs, during which they reportedly had ‘intense chemistry’. However, it pays to note that just like Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, they most definitely could just be longtime pals and good at their jobs.

Claire announced her split from her husband, actor Stephen Campbell Moore, in 2018, saying they had gone their separate ways ‘some time ago’ – reportedly near the end of filming The Crown. They share a four-year-old daughter, Ivy Rose.
