The welcome change of season Down Under brings with it the promise of sunnier days, longer evenings and, somehow, the arrival of awards season once again.

First up on the calendar is the 2026 Primetime Emmy Awards, which will see our favourite TV stars gather to celebrate another year of the small screen. This year’s nominee list is particularly star-studded, with Zendaya making her return to the Emmys alongside a constellation of familiar favourites including Steve Carell, Allison Janney and Martin Short.

Law & Order‘s Mariska Hargitay will make her Emmys hosting debut, becoming the first woman to helm the ceremony in 15 years in a fitting celebration of the medium that made her a household name.

The first instalment of this year’s Emmys, which honour “technical and behind-the-scenes achievements in American television”, took place last weekend, across September 5 and 6 in Los Angeles. The two-night affair, formerly known as the Creative Arts Emmys, serves as the prelude to the televised Primetime Emmys, which will air live on September 14.

The main event will be taking place on a Monday this year (Tuesday for Australian viewers), a slight departure from the traditional Sunday slot favoured by the major awards ceremonies, however it’s likely this was done to avoid a clash with Sunday Night Football.

A formidable roster of presenters have already been announced for this year’s telecast, including Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Amy Poehler and Jon Hamm, while a Charlie’s Angels reunion appears to be in the offing, with original stars Kate Jackson, Jaclyn Smith and Cheryl Ladd all set to make appearances.

Ahead, everything you need to know about the 2026 Emmys, including how to tune in from Australia.

Last week, the Emmys, previously known as the Creative Arts Emmys, offered an intriguing glimpse into what we can expect heading into this Sunday’s main event.

Widows Bay emerged as an early favourite, collecting eight trophies, while The Traitors was another standout, sweeping all six of its categories. Shailene Woodley claimed her first Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her role in Paradise. Meanwhile, the drama race remains neck and neck, with The Pitt and Pluribus both gathering four wins but neither managing to establish a lead.
