Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have our tick of approval for many reasons, but here’s yet another reason why we love the newlyweds-to-be.

The pair recently attended a Commonwealth Youth Forum reception in London, and used the opportunity to speak out in support of LGBT rights, PEOPLE reports.

Australian Jacob Thomas, who won a Queen’s Young Leaders award, recounted his conversation with Markle at the event in which she explained she was committed to championing LGBT issues.

“Miss Markle said, and these were her exact words, ‘This is a basic human rights issue, not one about sexuality,’” Thomas told reporters.

“Prince Harry said that what was so amazing was that 10 or so years ago, we wouldn’t have been having this conversation and how incredible it was that we now were,” Thomas added.

LGBTQ Jonah Chinga also told media: “Both Prince Harry and Miss Markle said they would put LGBT issues at the front of their work”.

Prince Harry was announced as the new Commonwealth Youth Ambassador earlier this week.
