After two decades together and fourteen years of marriage, actors Isla Fisher, 48, and Sacha Baron Cohen, 52, have announced that they’ve filed for divorce.

The pair jointly filed to end their marriage, from which they have welcomed three children (aged 17, 13 and nine), sharing the news on Instagram.

“After a long tennis match lasting over 20 years, we are finally putting our racquets down,” they wrote alongside a photo of them in tennis whites.

“In 2023 we jointly filed to end our marriage. We have always prioritised our privacy, and have been quietly working through this change,” they continued in the unconventional announcement.

“We forever share in our devotion and love for our children. We sincerely appreciate you respecting our family’s wish for privacy.”

The pair originally met at a party in Sydney, with Cohen saying Fisher’s natural sense of humour drew him in.

“We were at a very pretentious party, and me and her bonded over taking the mick out of the other people at the party. I knew instantly. I don’t know if she did,” he told the New York Times of their meet-cute.

Cohen had risen to fame in the late 90’s for his role as Ali G, then cementing his status with Borat and Bruno.

Meanwhile, Fisher is known for her roles on Home & Away, Wedding Crashers and Confessions Of A Shopaholic.

While the couple have not explained what caused the rift in their marriage, sources told Us Weekly that the couple had been working on their marriage for a number of years, with respective professional commitments and family responsibilities being key areas of tension.

People reports that the couple had spoken to divorce lawyers “several years prior” to eventually seeking them out in 2023.

While Sacha Baron Cohen is currently embroiled in a dispute with actor Rebel Wilson regarding her upcoming memoir Rebel Rising, it’s reported that the divorce announcement timing has nothing to do with the book.

Isla hasn’t commented on the claims at all, while Baron Cohen has denied the claims through a spokesperson.

While the notoriously private couple have kept the news of their divorce quiet for a number of months, there had been some signs of a rift.

Of late, Isla has been pictured on Instagram with her ring finger hidden, while her last photo with Cohen was posted around five months ago.

Meanwhile, Cohen’s last picture of Isla was posted just over a year ago.
