All summer, I’ve been on a desperate search to find the illusive perfect white tee.
On my hunt for the wardrobe staple, I’ve somehow become Goldilocks rummaging through the house of the Three Bears trying to find a snack and a firm mattress to nap in.
The first white tee I bought was too see-through. The second, I stained before I even tried it on. And the third was so tight it cut off the circulation to my arms.
I’ve spent hours trawling the internet, going to actual shopping centres and asking strangers on the street where their top is from.
I’d almost given up on my search all together when OneTeaspoon released their new capsule collection earlier this week – complete with a white tee collection made of organic cotton.
The material is uber soft but not see-through, the crew neck style suits me to a tee (ha) and the sleeves do not cut off my circulation. Basically, I feel like Goldilocks eating a bowl of perfectly heated porridge before napping on a memory foam bed.
When I asked OneTeaspoon founder and creative director Jamie Blakey the secret to finding the perfect white tee, she said it was all about options. “Everyone needs a few fits in their wardrobe. A relaxed crew neck, a fitted round neck and a great tank,” she explained. “The secret is knowing how to style it for you and what you’re wearing it with.”
Following Blakey’s advice, I’ve been adding to my white tee collection ever since. My friend recommended the Hanes x Karla collection by stylist Karla Welch, where I found the cropped tee of my dreams. Add to cart.
Then I saw this Lululemon International Women’s Day slogan tee to complete my trifecta. It says, “International Women’s Day after day after day after day,” which is basically my life motto.
The beauty of a white shirt is its versatility. You can style it up (with a champagne-coloured silk skirt) or down (tucked into a pair of vintage jeans). Blakey wears her oversized tee with a high waist jean to “balance it out.”
So now I’m on the hunt for the perfect high waist jean to wear with my perfect white tee. To be continued…
