The Australian supermodel and founder of organic skincare line KORA has revealed the remarkable prediction made on the night she first met her now-husband, Evan Spiegel. Miranda Kerr had been separated from Orlando Bloom for approximately a year when she attended a Louis Vuitton dinner at New York’s Museum of Modern Art in 2014.
She had no idea the man seated beside her would become her husband – or that another guest would predict their future together before the evening was over. Speaking to marie claire Australia editor Georgie McCourt on the latest episode of You’re Gonna Want to Hear This, Kerr recalled meeting Snapchat co-founder Evan Spiegel for the first time at the event.
Kerr was seated between Spiegel and legendary fashion editor Glenda Bailey, who quickly noticed a connection developing between the pair. “Glenda leaned over and whispered in my ear, ‘You two are going to get married,’” Kerr revealed. “I was like, ‘What are you talking about, Glenda? I’ve only just met this guy.’”

At the time, Kerr was navigating a major transition in her personal life. She and Bloom, with whom she shares son Flynn, had announced their separation the previous year after three years of marriage. A new relationship was not necessarily what she expected to find that night – but Bailey’s prediction would prove remarkably accurate.
Kerr and Spiegel’s initial conversation was sparked by his surname and one of the model’s favourite pieces of music, Spiegel im Spiegel. When Kerr asked whether he had heard it, Spiegel said he had not. She insisted he listen, describing it as a deeply moving instrumental work. However, Spiegel left the dinner early, leaving Kerr unconvinced by Bailey’s declaration that they were destined for marriage.
“I said to Glenda, ‘I don’t know about getting married. He’s already left the dinner,’” Kerr recalled. It was only later, while Kerr was working in Japan, that she found herself thinking about him. “I was like, ‘Whatever happened to that Spiegel guy?’” she said.
Kerr sent him a message asking whether he had listened to the song. Spiegel immediately called her – but caught her in the middle of a karaoke session. “I was like, ‘Sorry, I can’t take this call right now. I’m doing karaoke,’” she laughed.
The pair later reconnected over the phone, and their unusual first date was a Kundalini yoga class. Spiegel had never practised yoga before, while Kerr had been doing it since she was 18. She admitted she arrived late and spent the class nervously giggling as Spiegel waited at the front of the room. “He was just like, ‘What is wrong with this girl?’” she joked.
Kerr and Spiegel married in 2017 and have since built a family together, while Kerr continues to co-parent Flynn with Bloom. The model has spoken candidly about the work required to find peace after a relationship ends, revealing that forgiveness has been central to maintaining a harmonious connection with her former husband.
“Orlando and I will always be family,” she said. “We’re really close. We speak every other day.” For Kerr, the relationship she found after divorce was not about erasing the chapter that came before it. Instead, it became part of a larger blended family built around privacy, respect and the wellbeing of their children.
It is a love story that began with a fashion-world dinner, an eerily accurate prediction and a song Kerr could not stop thinking about.
