Every season of Married At First Sight crowns a villain, and in 2026, that dubious title belongs to 31-year-old tradie supervisor Chris and his 27-year-old bride, Brook.
Brook barely made it down the aisle before things turned uncomfortably awkward. From the jump, the vibe was off.
Brook was unimpressed by Chris’ vows, which included a bizarre swipe at the very experiment he willingly signed up for. “I feel the experts got their degree from a cereal box,” he quipped, setting the tone for what was to come.
Things only spiralled from there. Chris later complained to a producer that Brook hadn’t kissed him at the altar, saying he “hates working for it.” While the rest of the wedding and honeymoon passed without major blow-ups, flashbacks to his crude audition tape already read as uncomfortable foreshadowing.

In that tape, Chris listed his “turn-offs” as “fake tan”, “needy” women and “fat people”, remarks that quickly cemented his reputation as the season’s walking red flag.
So, are Brook and Chris still together? No! In a twist few saw coming, Brook announced her pregnancy and subsequent engagement to her ex-partner on February 15, following her short-lived stint on MAFS.
The couple reunited shortly after she exited the experiment and have since embraced a fast-moving new chapter, now preparing for both their upcoming nuptials and the arrival of their first child.
Speaking to Chattr after hearing about Chris’ fat-shaming remarks, Brook did not mince words. She said she was “appalled”, labelled his views “disgusting”, and made it clear she would never date someone who speaks about women that way. She also said he never should have been cast on the show.
“I don’t think it’s him being insecure. He’s a dangerous human,” she added.
Still, Brook’s own arc has not been uncomplicated. Backed by fellow brides Gia and Bec, she firmly pivoted into antagonist territory, turning a confrontation with Stella and Alissa into humiliation. Mocking everything from Stella’s faux leather boots to the way Alissa speaks, the moment tipped from confrontation into something far uglier.
She has since apologised on Instagram, saying the footage captured “the worst version” of her. “Bullying should never be condoned,” she wrote. “I am extremely embarrassed by the way I acted.”
