Sleepless in Seattle - Daniela Elser, Acting Associate Editor
"It’s perennially heartwarming, and it’s always a nice reminder that love is surprising. And sometimes what you need on a Friday night is Meg Ryan, Tom Hanks and a glass of Pinot Grigio."
Castaway - Sue Hoffman, Deputy National Integration Manager
"Definitely in Castaway when Wilson floats away. I watched it again with the kids (their first time) on a road trip a couple of years ago, and during that scene we were all crying. So sad."
Toy Story - Hanna Marton, Contributing Wellness and Features Editor
"I genuinely love it when my 3-year-old elects to watch (any) Toy Story on a rainy Sunday afternoon… Hanks' high-octave, naïve but heroic Woody is a joy to watch, and it's a reminder that before Philadelphia and Saving Private Ryan, Hanks was actually a super funny guy."
Philadelphia - Kimberlee Garcia, Account Manager
"Where do you begin with Tom Hanks? He’s been in so many great movies, but one movie that comes to mind is Philadelphia. Such an amazing movie and cast, but what really makes it is Tom’s portrayal of a gay lawyer diagnosed with HIV, this movie was ground-breaking and truly brilliant!"
Forrest Gump - Bianca DeCandia, Marketing Executive
"I love this move not only because of the beautiful story line, it has one of THE BEST soundtracks ever!"
You've Got Mail - Hannah-Rose Yee, features writer
"Everyone in the office is laughing at me because I basically think this might be the most perfect film ever made. Sure, it's super dated, extremely hetero-normative and very, very white (a valid and oft-levied criticism of Nora Ephron films, when Meg Ryan yells "that caviar is a garnish!" at Tom Hanks in this movie, it's probably the whitest thing a character has ever said onscreen). But I love this movie. I love it. I can't help it, it's a picture-perfect representation of New York, the kind that doesn't exist anymore, big brownstones and eating bagels standing up at the counter, and romances carried out in tiny, independent bookstores. And Tom Hanks is just perfect as Joe Fox (F.O.X) in this movie, an unscrupulous big business money man who falls for the quirky bookworm via email dating. Like Sleepless in Seattle, there's not a lot this movie won't solve. Also, sidebar, listening to Tom talking about Nora Ephron among other things in a special, bumper edition of Desert Island Discs made my entire year."
Saving Mr Banks - Emily Featherstone, features intern
"I loved Tom Hanks in Saving Mr Banks. He pulls of Walt Disney perfectly both as the business man as well as the endearing father. Plus Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson make such a perfect team!"
Bachelor Party - Pearl Naidel, Photo Editor
"I loved Tom’s classic dry humour and the kooky characters. Very funny."
Big - Hannah-Rose Yee, features writer
"One more, because how could you not include Big, the ne plus ultra of body-swapping movies! It does not get any better than this."
Catch Me If You Can - Melissa Drennan, Senior Designer
"Tom Hanks is so great in this movie and I particularly love the typography on the intro (classic designer)."
A League Of Their Own - Danielle Taylor, Designer
"I love this movie, it reminds me of my childhood when I used to watch this on repeat."
