Is There Going To Be A Season Two Of We Were Liars?

Months after the shocking finale crippled our hearts, a season two of We Were Liars has finally been confirmed.

Given the show skyrocketed to the #1 spot on Prime Video and caused such a visceral reaction online, it’s really no surprise we’re in for more lying and family drama – emphasis on the latter.

The show’s creators, Julie Plex and Carina Adly MacKenzie spoke to the online reaction when confirming the news.

“The fan response was truly special. There are still plenty of secrets buried on Beechwood Island and we can’t wait to keep digging them up,” they said.

What Will Season Two Of We Were Liars Be About?

There may not be a sequel to E. Lockhart’s best-selling novel but there is a prequel, Family Of Liars, as well as an adjacent standalone, We Fell Apart.

Given the way We Were Liars ended, it’s highly likely that a second installment would see Family Of Liars adapted for the screen and even pick up where season one left off.

While she didn’t give away much, author E. Lockhart did tease that fans are in for “a lot of surprises”.

“MacKenzie and Plec have big, big plans for Season Two, including everything readers of my books are dying to see onscreen — and a lot of surprises as well,” she said.

In the final scenes of season one we learn Carrie can also see the ghost of her son, Johnny.

She says, “I thought you left,” to which he replies, “I don’t think I can.”

This could be setting up for Family Of Liars which follows Carrie as she relives the tragedy she and her sisters experienced as teens, which she retells to Johnny’s ghost.

Lockhart also hinted that this final scene could set up season two.

“If you watch We Were Liars all the way to the end and you watch the little coda, you can see that coda tips to the start of Family Of Liars,” she told Deadline. “We have not forgotten about what’s going on with Johnny and Carrie.”

If the show does pick up close to where it left off, this time following Carrie, fans could also get an insight into what happened to Cadence after leaving the island.
