Rape Victim Gives Powerful Statement After Assailant Jailed

"I'm stronger than I've ever been."

A rape victim has revealed in a powerful interview that she has never felt stronger than the moment she put her attacker in jail on Friday.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that the man, Thomas Hofer, had used Flatmates.com.au to arrange a meet-up with the 19-year-old woman in regards to a room for rent that he had advertised. They went to dinner then drinks together, then went back to his house and though the young woman had told him she didn’t want to have sex, he flipped her on her stomach and raped her.

However, on Friday, he was sentenced to six and a half years in jail, and the victim spoke to Fairfax Media about how it felt to stand up to her attacker.

“I felt stronger than I ever had in my life to be honest,” she said. “Nobody asks to be raped. If it’s happened, it’s wrong and you need to stand up for yourself.

“Men that are like that don’t stop, you won’t be the last one. It’s really important that we stand up and fight these predators.”

In the case of Thomas Hofer, within 24 hours of the incident, he had raped another victim – a tourist from the US.

“The way he planned it … he did it twice and he told me he was meeting another girl the next night. It would have been three.

“I feel real sorry for him because he has evil in his eyes, there is no empathy. He thought he did nothing wrong. You can’t do that kind of stuff and get away with it. It doesn’t make you powerful, it makes you weak.”

In fact, she also mentioned that when power has been taken away from you in such a humiliating way, sometimes all you can do is fight back to regain the feeling of control.

“[Going to court] put me in back in control,” she said. “I took control of the situation and I made him see that it was wrong. He can’t get away with doing that to people.

“It takes something from you, you are powerless, so you need to start working out ways and regain that control that you lost,” she said. “I really think the best way to do that it is to stand up and fight.”

She hopes that her story will encourage others to ‘trust their instincts’ when it comes to these situations, saying, “if you feel like something is wrong, then it probably is.”

Hofer has been sentenced to six and a half years in jail, and will be eligible for parole in 2021.

This Is How Much You Need To Earn To Be Truly Happy

Apparently there is a ‘happiness plateau’

So while we all know that money can’t buy happiness and the best things in life are free etc etc, there’s no denying we live in an age where the cost of living is on the up (and up and up…) so it’s little wonder that money does have to come in to play at some point.

According to Angus Deaton, who won the Nobel Prize in 2015 for his work in poverty and development, says that there is such a thing as a ‘happiness plateau’ in relation to your annual salary.

According to a study with psychologist Daniel Kahneman, Deaton found that “everyday contentment” increases up to US$75,000 (AU$98,464) but then levels off after that.

“Perhaps $75,000 is a threshold beyond which further increases in income no longer improve individuals’ ability to do what matters most to their emotional well-being, such as spending time with people they like, avoiding pain and disease, and enjoying leisure,” they found.

The study analysed 450,000 responses from a daily survey of 1000 US residents conducted by the Gallup Organisation and they concluded that happiness could be broken down into two categories:

Everyday contentment, or “the frequency and intensity of experiences of joy, stress, sadness, anger, and affection that make one’s life pleasant or unpleasant”

Life assessment, or “the thoughts that people have about their life when they think about it”.

While the ‘Everyday contentment’ category plateaus, ‘Life assessment’ continues to grow with salary.

“Giving people more income beyond 75K is not going to do much for their daily mood … but it is going to make them feel they have a better life,” Deaton told the Associated Press.

“As an economist I tend to think money is good for you, and am pleased to find some evidence for that.”

Chances are, you’ve read at least one of these books – and chances are, it’s changed your life… Although it’s no secret that a lack of female representation exists in literature, these 11 books have each worked to shape the lives of women the world over, and some of them have even sparked feminist revolutions…

1. A Vindication of the Rights of Woman by Mary Wollstonecraft

Known as one of the first true advocates for women’s rights and feminism, Mary Wollstonecraft was an English writer and philosopher who wrote A Vindication of the Rights of Woman. She would also later give birth to one of the most prominent female writers in history, Mary Shelley, which tragically lead to her untimely death.

Thought of as one of the earliest works of feminist philosophy, A Vindication of the Rights of Woman contended that the treatment of women by society ought to reflect their importance, as we were more than ‘mere wives’. This push for women to have the same fundamental human rights as men was considered revolutionary for its historical context, as many of the things Wollstonecraft was pushing for have still not come to fruition the world over.

2. The Women’s Room by Marilyn French

This feminist fiction novel firmly cemented its author, Marilyn French, as a major voice for the feminist movement upon its publication in 1977. Set in 1950s America, the novel follows the life of Mira Ward from her traditional, unhappy married life as a submissive housewife to her feminist awakening. Upon its release, The Women’s Room was criticised by some as being “too anti-men”, a criticism French has noted only furthers her cause.

3. The Feminine Mystique by Betty Friedan

The very book that sparked second-wave feminism, Betty Friedan’s The Feminine Mystique addresses “the problem that has no name” – being the widespread unhappiness of the 1950s housewife.

Up until her death in 2006, Friedan acted as a voice for women’s rights in the United States, and was elected as the first president of the National Organisation for Women in 1966. The Feminine Mystique has long been described as having had an everlasting influence on the feminist movement, owing to its focus on equal opportunity for men and women.

4. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

Austen famously painted the picture of class and gender in 19th century England through her (satirical) exploration of issues concerning marriage and morality in her classic novel Pride and Prejudice. Selling over 20 million copies worldwide, Austen holds a special place in the hearts of many, and continues to fascinate readers long beyond her time.

5. A Room of One’s Own by Virginia Woolf

This extended essay, first published in 1929, uses a fictitious narrative to explore the notion that “a woman must have money and a roof of her own if she is to write fiction. Woolf, whose writings have been said to embody feminist and lesbian themes, left behind a legacy as one of the foremost modern thinkers of the 20th century.

6. The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath

American poet Sylvia Plath’s only novel The Bell Jar explores the protagonist’s deep descent into mental illness, mirroring the author’s own experiences and exploring something considered taboo for women to address at the time of its publication.

Plath would go on to commit suicide just one month after the books publication, and although she may have never self-identified as a feminist, many in the movement saw her work as a symbol for the plight of women.

7. The Second Sex by Simone de Beauvoir

Simone de Beauvoir’s powerful, groundbreaking analysis of gender inequality in The Second Sex opened the eyes of many women and men to the mistreatment of women throughout history. Much like The Women’s Room, this 1949 book, originally published in French, has been credited as the starting point for second-wave feminism.

8. I Know Why Caged Birds Sing by Maya Angelou

The legacy of Dr. Maya Angelou is one that spans over 50 years; a strong feminist voice for the civil rights movement. The coming-of-age story told in I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings illustrated how strength of character can endure in the face of racism and trauma, acting as a powerful narrative for women of colour.

9. The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd

Set in 1964, this coming-of-age story opened the eyes of many women to the importance of having strong, lasting female friendships. Receiving critical acclaim, making it to the New York Times bestseller list and even getting the Hollywood treatment in a film adaptation of the same name, The Secret Life of Bees took readers on a journey of self-acceptance and freedom.

10. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

Many women, both when the novel was first published in the 1860s, up until today, have struggled to relate to many of the female characters in literature. Little Women, however, has long found resonance with its female readers, owing to its strong, independent characters and focus on breaking away from gender constraints.

11. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë

In their writings, the Brontë sisters were no strangers to exploring feminist ideas of sexuality and independence…but it’s Charlotte’s Jane Eyre that has had the most profound impact on the lives of women since its publication in 1847. Through the eyes of Jane women all over the world were taught that anyone can overcome their unfortunate circumstances to achieve greatness…a lesson worth learning.

It’s no secret that Olivia Wilde gives good Twitter, but her latest tweet, while not being about getting the LOLs, might just be her best yet.

Wilde, 32, retweeted Hillary Clinton’s latest campaign ad which features a series of girls looking at themselves in a mirror alongside Trump’s most infamous quotes about women.

12-Year-Old Girl Dragged From Her Bed While She Slept

A man has been charged with abduction

A man allegedly broke into a home in Gladstone, Queensland and pulled a 12-year-old girl from her bed while she slept at Sunday morning around 1am.

As the man dragged the girl outside, her screams reportedly woke family members up who came to her aide, forcing the man to flee.

“Thankfully the screams of that young girl and two of her friends, who were also with her at the time, have alerted the girl’s grandfather, who has come out into the backyard and the male offender has taken off,” Detective Inspector Darrin Shadlow told ABC radio.

The girl suffered cuts and grazes to her arms.

Police later arrested a 24-year-old man and have charged him with abduction of a child under 16, assault, entering a dwelling with intent, indecent treatment of a child under 16 and obstructing police, reports Nine News.

A police spokeswoman added that the attack appeared to be “random” and that they had not established a connection between the man and the family.

The man is expected to face court today.

This is a real thing that happened. Ludacris even wore a very fetching purple sweater. The meeting was all in aid of Ludacris’ wife’s charity Unspoken Angels and the Pratt Foundation, led by cardboard magnate Anthony Pratt who issues the golden invitation to our Prime Minister.

We wonder what they talked about. Ludacris is, after all, a man of many surprises. The rapper rose to prominence in Atlanta, writing songs for the city’s famous strip clubs. Zoe Foster Blake has been a busy bee recently – she’s been the associate producer of the new TV series based off her book, The Wrong Girl, she’s been promoting her latest book, Amazinger Face, and of course she’s had the usual busyness of being a mum!

She recently did an interview with Kate Waterhouse of The Sydney Morning Herald to discuss her new projects, and she talked a bit about the process of writing Amazinger Face. It’s actually a more updated version of her book Amazing Face, with updates on some of the products since five years ago, and pregnancy beauty tips she learnt from having a baby.

One such updated trend is that she’s not as passionate about eyeliner anymore…

“Lipstick is always in, whether it’s matte, creamy, glossy and so on,” she said. “I think [eye] liners [have had] too good a rap for too long. I think it’s very unflattering on most women.”

The good news is, she thinks there’s a simple way to fix this.

“Black liner around the eye makes your eyes look smaller. I think you should reassess, if you’re a really big black liner user, maybe even just doing the top line, not lower, or try a brown or a plum or even a navy.”

She also mentioned that she’s very passionate about skincare, and that it can make all the difference to how much makeup you use!

“Have good skin and you can wear less make-up. So, splurge on a professional treatment … once a month and then you can just basically use the basics – sunscreen, moisturiser, exfoliation and face oil.”

David Beckham and Chris Hemsworth both took to Instagram over the weekend to remind us why they’ve both been awarded the title of the ‘Sexiest Man Alive’.

David Beckham took his shirt off for a good cause, to take part in the #22pushupchallenge to raise awareness for post-traumatic stress disorder in war veterans.

Becks was nominated for the challenge by his good friend Guy Ritchie.

“So my lovely friend Mr Guy Richie the film maker and supreme athlete has nominated me to do 22 press ups consecutively for 22 days (and by the way his challenge was that I do my first lot at 44,000 feet as he knows I’m travelling),” he captioned the first video.

“This isn’t one of his daily routines where he likes to teach u a lesson and beat you, it’s for a very good reason… 22 service men kill themselves post conflict… 22 a day, basically 1 an hour. So I am doing what Guy R, Jason S and Charlie H are doing and supporting, respecting and appreciating all the service men and women and their sacrifice … we shine a light to support and help save lives.”

He followed it up with two more videos over the next two days, so, so far it appears the challenge is going well.

Carbs Are Back In Fashion

If Dolce & Gabbana say so, it must be true

If there were an Aussie equivalent of Dolce & Gabbana, and they saw fit to celebrate their food heritage, they might design a dress printed with Chiko Rolls, or embellished with sequinned Lamingtons or raffia prawns.

(That’s actually quite a good idea; quick, someone call Romance Was Born… )

But to be truly authentic in 2016, the modern Australian diet motifs would have to be sushi, avocado and green juice.

There’s no such hipster rubbish in Milano.

This is a city of people who seem to get by on custard-filled croissants and midnight pasta. Ask for vegetables in a restaurant and they bring you a mozzarella-and-tomato salad with a single basil leaf. And, my god, they drink a lot of cocktails. (#fatterthanIwaswhenIarrived #whyarentthey?). I don’t know how they do it.

But I totally get the totemic, symbolic, magic power of the classic Italian way of life: good food, good wine, siestas, aperitivo… I mean, why not stick all that on a T-shirt if you can?

Iconic design duo Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana show in Milan, but they come from the south, so when they play the food-as-fashion card it’s hotter under the collar.

Their upbeat, grin-inducing show on Sunday was titled “Tropica Italiano”, and attended by Sofia Richie and heart-throb male models Cameron Dallas and Lucky Blue Smith. Screaming teenaged fans formed a crazy crush outside.

Inside, we were too busy being happy that Dolce & Gabbana had just deemed carbs cool again.

For SS’17, they showed romantic dresses printed with ice-cream cones, pasta, and bottles of olive oil. One amusing tote bag featured a pizza. There was hessian shift dress with a canned tomato print, and both spaghetti and cocktail motifs were worked into prints.

For the finale, instead of the usual pack of crystal-strewn models storming the runway, a rowdy simulation of a street party was staged, led by a troupe of Neapolitan dancers (in their own clothes) adapting Tarantella sounds to breakdance moves. Cue a lot of energetic whooping.

According to the designers: “The collection features all the symbols that are part of our daily life but that also belong to the [mythical] ‘Tropico Italiano’: food, religion, colours, flowers, family, ice creams, pizza, etc. Words that are often linked to the common imagery [that] might be familiar to Italian citizens but [is] part of an experience for foreigners who travel to Italy and dream of it.”

Cue, embroidered ‘hotel’ slippers, folkloric crowns, shoe heels flashing with LEDs and bags featuring neon cafe signs.

But nothing beats the pizza dress, right?

Thanks to their artistry of technique – these clothes are exquisitely made collectors’ items – Dolce and Gabbana managed to make dressing like a carb fest absolutely appealing.

Me, I’m hungry for these witty fashion treats. You?

Following the release of ‘Clueless’, Brittany Murphy’s career took off. Murphy starred alongside Angelina Jolie and Winona Ryder in the Oscar winning ‘Girl Interrupted’, found herself as rapper Eminem’s girlfriend in ‘8 Mile’ and stunned in the film-noir classic ‘Sin City’…

Sadly, in December 2009, Murphy died of pneumonia at just 32 years old. Fans all over the globe flocked together to mourn her death. Shockingly just six months later, her widower died of the same illness. Speculation surrounding the pair’s sudden and unexpected deaths continues to mount, with both her parents filing lawsuits and fighting for justice in court.

Duchess Kate Went Bold In Red For Day 1 Of The Canadian Royal Tour

The Duchess of Cambridge made a bold statement when she stepped out in a red and white print dress by Alexander McQueen for Day 1 of the Royal Tour of Canada.

Paying homage to her host country, the $6,800 red and white frock was quite the statement for the Duchess, with its graphic print and a pleated and layered hemline.

Instead of her trusty nude heels, Kate instead opted to match the frock with a pair of red heels and a matching red Miu Miu clutch.

Kate and Wills left the kids at home for a full day of activities, which included a visit to Sheway, an outreach centre for vulnerable pregnant women and new mothers where they met with mothers and children helped by the program.

The Couple also paid a visit to the Immigrant Services Society where they met with Syrian refugees. Joined by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife Sophie, they also met with staff and volunteers who work with over 25,000 migrants each year.

Oh Prince George, our favourite little royal was back at it again over the weekend, being all sorts of adorable when touching down in Canada with his family as part of their Royal Tour.

Holding tightly to the hands of his parents, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge – who also had little Princess Charlotte in tow – Prince George once again stole the show as they stepped off the plane.

Greeted by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, he knelt down to give the future King of England a special greeting, but it backfired.

Raising his hand for a high-five, the three-year-old was not having a bar of it, shaking his head.

Despite George’s cold shoulder, Wills and Kate were delighted to meet Trudeau and touch down in Canada, where they last visited as newlyweds in 2011.

“Catherine and I are delighted to be back in Canada. When we were here last time, we had been married only three months,” said William.

“The warm welcome that you gave us at that important moment in our lives meant a lot to us — and we have never forgotten it.

“That is why we are so pleased that George and Charlotte can be with us in Canada this time round, beginning their own lifetime of friendship with this wonderful country.”

The royals are on their first official tour as a family of four, and will stay in Canada for eight days.

The family were all matching for the occasion in shades of blue with Kate wearing a custom Jenny Packham dress with matching headpiece and a silver Canadian Maple leaf pin to pay tribute to her hosts.

Natascha Kampusch Opens The Doors To The “House Of Horrors” Where She Was Held Captive

Kidnap victim Natascha Kampusch’s story shocked the public when she escaped from her captor, Wolfgang Priklopil, ten years ago. Today, she still lives part-time at the “House of Horrors” in Vienna, Austria, where she was kept captive for eight years.

Kampusch was just 18-year-old when she escaped the home where she was kept as a sex slave, confined to a five-metre room near the garage of the home.

After discovering she had escaped, Priklopil commited suicide by jumping in front of a train.

Now 28, Kampusch still lives part-time in the home, after she bought it to avoid it becoming a theme park for Horror buffs, and she opened the doors to Sunday Night.

“It’s important because I don’t want to have false people in this house” she said of why she doesn’t get rid of the house.

“I don’t want to have a kind of theme park in here.”

Priklopil would attach Kampusch to him all day and night as she was forced to sleep with him in his bed.

She was also forced to do all the housework, often holding food as punishment.

“He would give me one carrot for two days or something and then I would have to go back to the darkness… There was no exit for me.”

Kampusch says that she eventually learned to feign love for him, and this would see her allowed more freedoms.

“I have found freedom in myself and I am very centred now. Lots of people think that such a crime could never happen to them but it isn’t true.”

A 6-year-old boy from New York has written an open letter to President Barack Obama asking him to bring Syrian boy Omar Daqneesh to his house.

“Dear President Obama remember the boy who was picked up by the ambulance in Syria?”

It was the photo that encapsulated the horror of Syria’s civil war. A five-year-old boy, plastered in dust and blood, sitting in the back of an ambulance.

Last month Alex, just six years old wrote “we will give him a family and he will be our brother” and said that he’d be waiting with flags, flowers and balloons.

“We can invite him to birthday parties and he will teach us another language. Since he won’t bring toys and doesn’t have any toys, Catherine (little sister) will share her big blue stripy white bunny and I will share my bike and I will teach him how to ride it.”

Yesterday, Obama took to Facebook to share the letter and opine that we should all be more like Alex and to imagine the suffering we could ease and the lives we could save if we were.

“Those are the words of a young child who has not learned to be cynical or suspicious or fearful of other people because of where they come from, how they look, or how they pray.”

In the Hadid sisters, Gigi and Bella, fashion has the makings of a new supermodel revolution. Together with their friend Kendall Jenner, these two have such recognisable faces they’ve transcended regular model status to become bona fide celebrities. We haven’t seen this level of model mania since the late ’90s/early 2000s when Linda, Christy, Naomi & co. ruled then runways.

When these girls walk in the same show, as Gigi and Bella did this morning at MFW for Max Mara, they bring an extra frisson of excitement to proceedings. Crowds literally go nuts. Occasionally one will take it too far – as a male fan did today after the show. He tried to grab her, and she gave him what for. She is queen of all the fashion animals after all. Don’t mess with her.

Gigi opened Max Mara’s tropical-chic SS’17 show, in a black-and-white palm print jumpsuit and matching visor. Bella’s first exit was in all-black; a sheer top over a black balcony bra worn with a provocative split skirt and one of the house’s iconic coats, this time re-imagined as a long-line evening parka.

It was a jungle in there, from the wildlife noises on the soundtrack to the topical prints on the sporty parkas, zipped bombers, flak jackets and body con dresses, and the animal motifs on the shaggy knits.

The collection was inspired by Latin American architect, designer and Renaissance woman, Lina Bo Barden. If you don’t know Barden’s work (which I didn’t), it’s a modernist melange, “at once rational and sensual, sleek and luxuriant, athletic and sultry, hi-tech and artisanal”. Okay but what I took from these clothes was a sense of fierce fun, which Gigi had no trouble embodying. The thing about Gigi is: she’s whatever you want her to be, somehow both the perfect receptacle and the ideal mirror for fashion’s current fantasies.

The New Image From The Gilmore Girls Instagram Is Giving Us All The Feels

Even after seven addictive seasons of Gilmore Girls, fans have been screaming for more and thankfully Netflix has answered our prayers. Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life is set to hit our screens in November with four new 90-minute episodes, but there are still so many unanswered questions. Do Luke and Lorelai live happily ever after? How are the Gilmores coping after Richard’s death? What are the final four words?

But amongst all of this, the one question echoing inside everyone’s heads is: whom will Rory end up with? All three of Rory’s major love interests have been confirmed to make appearances in the revival, but which of them (if any) will end up becoming her soulmate forever?

Well if Instagram is anything to go by, it’s anyone’s game.

While every boyfriend of Rory’s has his own squad of shippers, fans of Rory/Dean pairing are having a field day over the latest picture on the Gilmore Girls Instagram, which reveals a box of corn starch nuzzled between some of Rory’s beloved books on a shelf.

As many of you may know, the cornstarch is significant because when Rory and Dean share their first (truly loveable and innocent) kiss, Rory was in Doose’s Market (where Dean worked part-time) pretending to shop for corn starch. The two came across each other and started talking casually when out of the blue, Dean kisses her on the lips! The soft and tender kiss left her in a complete daze that she ran off, cornstarch in hand.

“First kiss. First crime.” Such a fitting caption to accompany this intriguing new image.

Of course, the cheeky team behind the Gilmore Girls Instagram account have been teasing fans for weeks with a series of nostalgic and titillating images reminding us all of her time with both Logan and Jess. The account posted this picture last week that reminded us of the first time Rory realised Jess loved books almost as much as she did.

Horrifying Footage Shows Man Drowning His Three-Year-Old Stepdaughter

Shocking footage has emerged from CCTV that shows a man pushing his helpless three-year-old step-daughter into a pool three times, drowning her. He will face 100 years in jail for his crime.

Daily Mail reports that while the girl’s mother was sleeping in their hotel room in Mexico, the man, Jose David N. threw the girl into the hotel’s swimming pool. While she struggles to stay afloat, he stands by the pool doing nothing to save her.

The mother, who is a nurse, didn’t realise her daughter was dead until she returned to the hotel room after a swim with her husband. She found the girl lifeless in front of the TV and took her to hospital.

The girl died in hospital, and Jose was charged with murder. Though prosecutors had recommended a jail sentence of up to 40 years, the judges of the trial made it more severe after seeing the CCTV footage. They found him guilty with aggravated murder, and sentenced him to 100 years in jail, with no possibility of parole.

Bella opened the show in a stripped mini with a slicked back ‘do and dazzling glitter lips.

The all female ensemble and their canine counterparts have officially stolen our hearts.

Pennsylania couple Sarah Mallouk Crain and her husband Matt decided to make their special day even more memorable by swapping bouquets for rescue puppies and the photos are breathtaking.

Photographer Caroline Logan took the words right out of our mouths captioning one of her shots on Instagram, “Who needs bouquets when you can have… PUPPIES.”

The five boxer-hound pups and little pitbull came from Pitties Love Peace, a non-profit rescue organization dedicated to the rescue of pit bulls and pit bull mixes, which Sarah is also a board member for.

The couple, who have three dogs of their own and also foster rescues, told Buzzfeed “Don’t shop, adopt. The puppies that you see in our photos are just as good as any that you’d find in a pet store.”

We can’t argue with that!

Sarah also noted that while she’s “normally a very calm, level headed person” she wasn’t immune from some wedding day stress but admitted, “once we saw the puppies, every care in the world went away.”

12-Year-old Accused Of Rape Allowed To Go On Family Holiday

A 12-year-old boy who is accused of sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl has made his first appearance in a NSW Children’s Court.

The Year 6 boy, accompanied by his parents and aunt and lawyer James Viney, pleaded not guilty to four counts of indecent assault, three while in company, and two counts of sexual intercourse with a child under 10, reports The Daily Telegraph.

The boy’s lawyer requested that his client’s bail conditions be revised so that he could attend a family holiday interstate.

The magistrate agreed to the revisions and has also excused him from his next court appearance which is scheduled for November 24.

The alleged incidents took place at a Northern Beaches school in NSW between June 24 and July 1. The school has not been named.

Tiahleigh Palmer Allegedly Begged For Help A Week Before She Was Murdered

She allegedly sought refuge at a friend’s house because she didn’t want to return to her foster home

Just days before her tragic death, Tiahleigh Palmer allegedly asked a friend’s aunt if she could stay at her house because she was scared to return to her foster home where she lived with the Thorburn family.

“She asked if she could stay with me and I said I’m sorry you can’t stay with me because I don’t really know you for a start,” the woman, who has chosen to remain anonymous, told 7 News.

She told the woman she was in trouble at school and was worried about returning home.

“She did tell me that if she did go home she was going to get in big trouble and that’s why she didn’t want to go home,” the woman added.

The woman says she then called the Browns Plains office of child safety, but it was allegedly dismissed by the case worker.

“They are kids and they tell stories,” the case worker also allegedly told the woman.

Tiahleigh’s foster mother Julene Thorburn was then contacted via text message, and assured the woman that the 12-year-old was not in trouble.

“Thank you and if she is worried about it tell her that just Julene is coming and she isn’t it (in) trouble,” the text message allegedly read.

“She said I don’t want to go home,” the witness added.

When the woman confronted Julene about what Tiahleigh had told her, she also dismissed it as nothing but “kids telling stories”.

Six days later, Tiahleigh was dead. Police allege that her foster father, Rick Thorburn, killed her at their family home before dumping her body and reporting her missing.

Following her “disappearance”, Julene sent the woman another text message, asking if she knew where she was.

“Hi it’s Tia’s foster mum Julene Tia has run from school again first thing this morning if you hear anything or if anyone has seen her today could you let me know,” the text message read.

“I spoke to *beep* and she said she hadn’t seen her all day. I hope you found her,” the witness replied.

Julene then replied, “Okay thanks we really have no leads this time police are following up on friends and some other contacts and your number is on the list since she came there last week so hope someone knows something regards Julene.”

The woman is said to be cooperating with police in their ongoing investigation.

A former carer has also made explosive claims that Tiahleigh tried to run away form the Thorburn’s home 10 times in the 10 months before she died.

Julie Pemberton, who cared for her for two years before she moved in with the Thorburn family, told Nine News that Tiahleigh “hated” living there.

“I’ve got emails that Tiah wanted to leave their care in the first two weeks that she was sent there,” Ms Pemberton said.

“I would have had her back in the following week, but I couldn’t get her back. Too late now, you’ve just got to stop it happening again.”

UPDATE 23/09/16 2pm: The FBI have confirmed to PEOPLE that they are looking into the child abuse allegations against Brad Pitt.

“The FBI is continuing to gather facts and will evaluate whether an investigation at the federal level will be pursued,” they said in a statement.

Amidst news of his divorce from Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt has been facing some very serious allegations of child abuse.

TMZ initially reported that the LA Police Department and LA County Department of Children and Family Services were investigating Brad Pitt concerning an alleged incident on a plane in which he was verbally and physically abusive to his children. Reports say that while he was drunk, “he allegedly went wild, screaming and getting physical with the kids.”

Sources told TMZ that the incident was apparently the reason for the divorce, however a source close to Pitt said that it wasn’t true.

“He takes the matter very seriously and says he did not commit any abuse of his children. It’s unfortunate that people involved are continuing to present him in the worst possible light.”

A source who apparently has knowledge about the situation on the plane told PEOPLE that Pitt didn’t strike anyone.

“[Pitt] was drunk, and there was an argument between him and Angelina,” says the source. “There was a parent-child argument which was not handled in the right way and escalated more than it should have.”

“He is emphatic that it did not reach the level of physical abuse, that no one was physically harmed. He did not hit his child in the face in any way. He did not do that; he is emphatic about that. He put his hands on him, yes, because the confrontation was spiralling out of control.”

Since initial reports, the LAPD has denied involvement in the case, saying that there has been no child abuse case filed.

“The child abuse unit with LAPD has no open investigation on Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie.”

The LA County Department of Children and Family Services has also said that they can’t legally confirm or deny who they are investigating.

TMZ has now claimed that the case against Brad Pitt has been referred to the FBI for investigation. Sources from LAPD have told them that the FBI is responsible for taking care of the case because the incident happened in the air.

As the situation stands, there is no official confirmation that the incident actually occurred, however it seems that there is an investigation currently taking place. More to come.

The Case Of: JonBenet Ramsey has caused controversy with its damning conclusion which paints Burke Ramsey, JonBenet’s brother, as the killer of the 6-year-old beauty queen.

However News.com.au reports that a new TV special, which will air next week, has two suspects that it thinks is worth investigating.

Who Killed JonBenet Ramsey? will look into the ‘Santa Claus’ intruder theory and also why the Ramseys’ housekeeper Linda wasn’t investigated further, despite being one of the first suspects.

The ‘Santa Claus’ suspect is Bill McReynolds, who actually had access to the Ramseys’ house, and frequently visited houses in the area dressed as Santa Claus.

McReynolds once said in an interview: “All children are special to Santa.

“She just happened to be extra special to me. She was very thoughtful, a very caring little girl and she actually gave Santa a present. You can imagine how rare that is.”

Strangely, he and his wife had a very similar crime happen to them with their own daughter – she was abducted on Boxing day 22 years before the death of JonBenet. His wife had even written a play based on the true story of a 16-year-old girl who got molested and tortured, then her body dumped in a basement.

Meanwhile, the housekeeper Linda Pugh had asked to borrow $2000 soon before JonBenet’s death, and the police found the same brand of tape used to cover JonBenet’s mouth in the Pughs’ house.

In the new program, Fred Patterson from the Boulder police department says, “They had familiarity with the house, they knew JonBenet. It would have been possible to go to house and take JonBenet without having a disturbance.”

Who Killed JonBenet Ramsey? will air on HLN in the US next week on September 30.

TMZ reports that she didn’t let this faze her, and acted quickly by fighting him off, delivering a swift elbow to the face.

The guy eventually let go of her ad started walking away, and she yelled after him “Who the f*** are you?! You piece of sh**!”

She told a paparazzi to ‘go find that guy’.

The man was Vitali Seduiik, who is notorious for sabotaging red carpets and annoying celebrities – in the past he’s hugged Bradley Cooper, kissed Will Smith, and nuzzled Leonardo DiCaprio.

Gigi Hadid has since responded to the incident by taking to Twitter to thank her boxing coach, and defend her right to fight back after The Sun claimed her behaviour was ‘not model behaviour’.

NT Judge Says Levels Of Domestic Violence In Aboriginal Communities ‘Out Of Control’

A Coroner has investigated the deaths of two Northern Territory women and found that domestic violence levels are ‘horrendous.’

Greg Cavanagh noted that there’s little evidence that law and order measures are having any impact and that violence levels especially in Indigenous communities are “literally out of control.”

“The circumstances of these two deaths reveal the stark reality that the criminal justice system fails to protect women from domestic violence. That is to say, policing and punitive sentences do not provide an answer to stopping the violence.”

The Guardian reported that 36-year-old Wendy Murphy suffered through 45 episodes of domestic violence before her partner killed her in a brutal and prolonged beating.

Natalie McCormack, 31, died in 2015 and her partner told police her stab wounds were self-inflicted. Police records indicate that she suffered 32 episodes of domestic violence prior to her death.

“In my view some of the answers are likely to be found in the significant social-economic disadvantage experienced by Aboriginal communities in the Northern Territory.”

“All of those factors that go to make up that disadvantage are in the context of what is becoming a cycle of generational family violence.”

The investigation casts a spotlight on an important issue. Why in the decade leading to both of these women’s deaths was the criminal justice system unable to stop the violence and their eventual deaths?

Cavanagh encouraged police to use body cameras in order to record cases of domestic violence so that they can be used as evidence against offenders.

He also recommended that alternative implementation strategies be put in place and that domestic violence cases be given priority so they can be processed faster and ensure the safety of victims.

Iranian Woman Mojgan Shamsalipoor Freed From Detention On Bridging Visa

After a two-year battle to fight for her freedom, Mojgan ran back into her husband's arms.

After Peter Dutton’s shock decision to send Iranian woman Mojgan Shamsalipoor back to detention last year, she was finally freed on Wednesday.

ABC News reports that she was released on a bridging visa, and she ran straight into her husband Milad Jafari’s arms, who was an Iranian refugee and is now residing in Australia.

Mojgan is planning on living and working in Brisbane for the time being, however the fight isn’t over, as she does not currently legally qualify as a refugee.

A spokesperson for Peter Dutton released a statement on her release, as well as other ‘illegal maritime arrivals’ on Wednesday.

“This is in line with the Government’s decision to reduce the number of people in detention,” it read.

“These people have been granted temporary bridging visas. All have been found not to be owed protection by Australia.

“They are not refugees and are expected to return to their countries of origin. They will not have access to permanent stay visas.”

The community in Australia who knew Mojgan had started a campaign to free her, called ‘Free Mojgan’.

Mojgan first fled Iran due to rape and domestic violence by her family members, and she was forced to be a child bride to a 60-year-old man.

Her lawyer, Kevin Kadirgamar, told ABC that the future ahead is uncertain.

“The Minister has effectively recognised that she has never been a threat to the community and she has every capacity to be a productive member of society,” he said.

“However, the bridging visa continues to place a shadow of uncertainty over her future in that the Minister has not gone as far as allowing her the opportunity to reside in Australia permanently with her husband.”

While there is still more to figure out, Mojgan will be celebrating the small victory with her family and friends.

In a story that is sure to bring a tear to your eye, little Emilia Grabarczyk, who was just 8 ounces when she was born at 25 weeks, is now 9-months-old and she is growing stronger every day, reports The Telegraph.

Believed to be the smallest baby to ever survive a premature birth, Emilia measured just 22 centimeters when she was born by caesarean section at a hospital in western Germany, and while her whole life has been a battle for survival, doctors say her condition is improving.

“Even children with a birth weight of 14 ounces (400g) rarely survive,” said Dr Bahman Gharavi, Head of Children and Youth Clinic at the hospital where she was born according to The Mirror.

“We have to thank Emilia as well for her own survival,” he said. “She is a little fighter.”

Alexis Arquette’s Official Cause of Death Revealed

The actress had lived with HIV for 29 years

Transgender star Alexis Arquette had been living with HIV for 29 years before dying of cardiac arrest on September 11, it has been revealed.

According to her death certificate obtained by People, the 47-year-old contracted a bacterial infection of the heart three weeks before her death.

Three years earlier she had been diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, all related to HIV.

The actress, who starred in movies including Pulp Fiction and The Wedding Singer, was surrounded by friends and family and listened to David Bowie’s ‘Starman’ as she passed away.

Her famous siblings, including Patricia, Rosanna and David Arquette were all by her side.

Brother Richmond confirmed the sad news via Facebook, writing:

“Our brother Robert, who became our brother Alexis, who became our sister Alexis, passed this morning September 11, at 12:23am,” he wrote.

“He was surrounded by all of his brothers and sisters, one of his nieces and several other loves ones. We were playing music for him and he passed during David Bowie’s ‘Starman.’

“As per his wishes, we cheered at the moment that he transitioned to another dimension.”

No official cause of death has been revealed however several news sources are reporting that Arquette had been battling an illness.

Arquette, who was born a male, transitioned to female in 2006, which was the subject of a documentary titled Alexis Arquette: She’s My Brother.

We Need To Talk About Kim Kardashian’s Latest Nude Stunt

LATELY I have been giving Kim Kardashian’s breasts a lot of thought. It’s not as if those perky puppies can go unnoticed – every news stream seems to have a photo of the brunette sans bra in something sheer and clingy.

I would prefer not to witness them at all but that’s not going to happen. Because it appears this lady has little to say so she prefers to show instead.

Part of me thinks, “you go girl” when I see shots of KK revelling in her obvious charms while another part of me thinks, “just go away”. Because as much as I believe women shouldn’t be ashamed of their femininity or afraid to flaunt it, I often wish this woman could give it a break.

I feel I have endured years of seeing KK’s breasts and bum thrust in my face (and I’m not even on Instagram or watch Keeping Up With the Kardashians so, I am doing my best to avoid her) to the point where I wouldn’t be shocked is she posted her pap smear results for attention.

Recently, I am told in so-called news items, KK has lost a lot of weight, her body bouncing back after her last baby. This has entailed hard work and I say ‘good on her’ for being proud of the results. But I have also noticed that stakes have been upped on just how much she’s showing off since, her breasts now barely disguised as she runs errands with the paparazzi in tow.

And I do wonder how much of this is her need to feel relevant as a married mother of two in her thirties when she has two much younger sisters posing and pouting their way in to her coveted press space. In other words, is she flaunting out of desire or desperation?

Part of my concern with the entire KK phenomenon is that she has permeated the show-off bubble of social media and entered the mainstream. And this isn’t necessarily her fault.

Everything she wears – or doesn’t – is apparently newsworthy to major media outlets I would prefer to be concentrating on real news, you know, politics, elections, world hunger, global peace initiatives…

This is the fault of news services more interested in garnering clicks than exclusives. But considering the universal chicken and egg dilemma, much blame must go to a public that chooses to ogle KK rather than clicking on something which could expand their minds and understanding.

If news agencies are only giving readers what they want, what does it say about the public’s insatiable appetite for bouncing boobs and the greased-up rump on a brunette with little else to offer?

Perhaps if KK used such attention to impart something of real significance to her gazillions of influential followers, my mixed feelings dilemma wouldn’t be so vexing. Yet I am not to hear a quote from KK in all these years she has been thrust in my conscience that could in any way be viewed as progressive.

Maybe if she flaunted those boobs to impart information on the importance of breast checks? If her poised posterior close ups came with the message that large is still healthy, and that trying to achieve a big booty without having fat elsewhere is nigh on impossible? But no. KK’s flaunting seems to go no further than look at me and well, look at me again.

So, here is my struggle, do I put the girl down for enjoying her sexuality and being proud enough to share it, or do I deride her for her lack of humility, her overt audacity, her apparent lack of social conviction and her unwavering want to be noticed and admired? Should I applaud her for breaking the size 0 model ideal that only skinny is sexy or do I question her methods of achieving her bodacious body ie: surgery and radical dieting?

All this brings me back to my problem in the first place with the whole KK phenomenon. Why am I caring about this woman in the first place? I would be happy for her to go on with her life as vacuous and superficial as I might perceive it, if only I could avoid being part of it. Because I can’t help believe she is conveying way too much information while, at the same time, offering so little of real importance.

The set was pink velvet boudoir chic bathed in red light, presumably to make it difficult for attendees to take good Instagram pics, thereby backing up the message: SECURITY WAS HIGH. Add in the extreme level of craftsmanship involved in making these clothes and accessories, and it’s virtually impossible to knock this stuff of on the cheap.

But don’t think people won’t try. Believe me, as you read this, armies of evil fast fashion geniuses are sharing their show cribbings and getting to work on your next big Gucci-inspired thing. Which will be…DRUM ROLL PLEASE…

1. Big platforms. They’re everywhere this show season. Gucci’s are the best obvs.

2. Ultra ruffles. A metallic pink ruffle-fronted shirt with ruffled sleeves worn with metallic pink pants, with ruffles down the side. Ruffly!

3. Pattern (and texture) clash. Go on. Wear it all together.

4. Intarsia words. That’s when they’re woven into the fabric. Gucci’s read: “Future”, and, um, “Cemetery”. (Because that’s where we’re all headed? Crikey.)

5. Zebra. Gucci’s orange coat with two giant frolicking zebras on the front is one thing. Zebra print is another – it was on the Topshop runway. It’s the new leopard. Now don’t say I never give you anything.

6. Punk denim: There’s a version of this jacket in Gucci’s Cruise ’16 collection, so you can buy that soon. Or rob one off an actual punk. That’s quite a punk think to do, no? Wear with a red bikini top. Simple.

7. Shiny things. Sequins. Metallics. Shimmery fringes. See point 3. More please, sir.

8. Gothic script. This is actually a Vetements thing, not a Gucci thing, but now Gucci is doing it, it’s an everybody thing. Goodbye Helvetica.

When mother-of-five Shoshanna Keats-Jaskoll saw the latest covers of Girls’ Life and Boys’ Life magazines side-by-side, she wasn’t happy.

Taking to Facebook, she posted a photos of the two covers, which show the alarming difference between the two. One for girls, talks about how to “wake up pretty” and getting “your dream hair”. Whereas the Boys’ Life magazine invites its readers (presumably boys) to “explore your future”.

“Your cover has a lovely young lady with a full face of makeup and you invite your readers to ‘steal her secrets,” Keats-Jaskoll wrote in an open letter to Girls’ Life that has since gone viral.

“The Boys’ Life cover has in bold letters EXPLORE YOUR FUTURE surrounded by all kinds of awesome gear for different professions — doctor, explorer, pilot, chemist, engineer, etc. subheading — HERE’S HOW TO BE WHAT YOU WANT TO BE.”

The post has since garnered over 5,800 likes and have been shared more than 3,800 times.

Two people who saw the post and were outraged were none other than Amy Schumer and Blake Lively.

It’s no surprise that Chelsea Handler is ‘Team Jen’ but she has still managed to raise more than a few eyebrows after going on a vicious on-air rant following the news of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s split.

Speaking during her Netflix series Chelsea, Jennifer Aniston’s BFF did not hold back.

“There are rumours that part of the problem was that Brad was allegedly drinking and smoking too much weed. I wonder why he would need to self-medicate,” Handler said.

“Maybe because he could have been spending the last 12 years at Lake Como hanging out with George Clooney and Matt Damon, instead of being stuck in a house with 85 kids speaking 15 different languages.

New Details Emerge About Tiahleigh Palmer’s Final Movements

Police allege the 12-year-old never made it to school on the day she went missing

According to Queensland Police, 12-year-old Tiahleigh Palmer never actually made it to school on October 30, like her family originally claimed.

According to the Courier Mail, police will allege that Rick Thorburn, who remains in an induced coma in police custody, murdered his foster daughter the previous night, after discovering that his 19-year-old son Trent had been sexually abusing her.

Yesterday a court heard that Trent was worried that Tiahleigh was pregnant, and confessed this to his cousin soon before Tia’s death.

Mr Thorburn was reportedly fearful of Trent facing charges over the relationship and police claim he smothered his foster daughter on the evening of October 29, 2015.

His son is now facing charges of incest, perverting the course of justice and perjury and has been denied bail.

The Courier Mail reported that the revelation of a pregnancy occurred over Facebook messenger, where Trent confessed to his cousin that he’d had sex with the 12-year-old. He had also mentioned the sex to his mother.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Elen French said that the Facebook messages had been provided to police by his cousin, and though he had been interviewed by police five times about it, he had denied the sexual relationship each time.

“This defendant betrayed her trust. He abused his position as big brother and took advantage of her,” French said.

“A consequence of that is her young life has been taken.”

Thorburn’s wife Julene, 54, and their older son Joshua, 20, have also been charged with perjury and perverting the course of justice.

In the wake of Tiahleigh’s tragic passing, the Queensland Government has ordered a review into the foster care system and the issuing of blue cards.

Child Safety Commissioner Cheryl Vardon will conduct the review of the foster system, which will closely examine approvals and blue card services

“The blue card system as it stands now is not broken,” Vardon told the ABC.

“We need to improve it, we need to look at categories, we need to look at a whole range of things.”

However the LNP’s spokeswoman for Child Protection, Ros Bates, told the ABC they want an independent and external review into the Department of Child Safety.

“We need to make sure that we are protecting our vulnerable children and this minister needs to stop hiding behind privacy, stop hiding behind reviews.

“Come out and assure Queenslanders that children in care, particularly those in foster care are safe. There are obvious breakdowns in the system,” she said.

“We need to have external people, external eyes actually look at the system and examine it for the flaws that are currently occurring.”

Everything We Learnt From The Bachelorette Premiere Last Night

Last night was the premiere of the new season of The Bachelorette, and boy, was it a good one.

Following Richie’s somewhat awkward manner on camera in the most recent season of The Bachelor, Georgia Love’s media experience as a news reader shined on the small screen, and was a pleasant change!

As usual, the first ep was full of surprises, but here are the most important things we learned…

1. Georgia Love quit her job AND her career to ‘find love’

We’re pretty sure the producers of the show must have pretty much fainted when they found an application with the name ‘Georgia Love’ on it, but it must have been a hard decision for Georgia. That being said, we daresay this is only the beginning of her career really, particularly with her strong media background already!

Maybe not, Georgia, but there’s plenty of fulfilment to be found nonetheless!

2. First red carpet arrival and potential top three Cameron was in this year’s Perth Firefighters Calendar

Good…lord.

3. She’s a big fan of Dad jokes…

Lee has already made an excellent first impression on Georgia by bringing a donkey for the sole purpose of a pun: “Does my ass look big in that?”

But much to his surprise, she hit him right back with one…

“Wasabi!”

4. But she is NOT a fan of beards.

She practically jumped to shave Clancy’s beard right off.

5. Expensive gifts are not going to win her over, but thoughtfulness just might

Courtney and Carlos had a slightly awkward moment when they realised that they’d both given Georgia bracelets – Carlos gave her a Tiffany’s creation while Courtney gave her a pasta bracelet. However Courtney walked away with the First Impression rose while Carlos walked home, so it’s going to take more than grand gestures to win her heart!

Yesterday after news broke of Angelina Jolie and brad Pitt’s divorce, rumours quickly began to circle that his Allied co-star Marion Cotillard was involved.

The 40-year-old French actress ahs today taken to Instagram to clear up any rumours, and confirm she is expecting her second child with her long-time love, Guillaume Canet, with whom she already has a five-year-old son.

“This is going to be my first and only reaction to the whirlwind news that broke 24 hours ago and that I was swept up into,” she wrote.

“I am not used to commenting on things like this nor taking them seriously but as this situation is spiraling and affecting people I love, I have to speak up.

The Twin Brother Of Stephanie Scott’s Murderer Apologises In Interview

The twin brother of Stephanie Scott’s murderer has apologised for his crime in an on-air interview with Channel 9.

Marcus Stanford was interviewed outside his home on the Yorke Peninsula, and apologised for selling Stephanie Scott’s engagement ring and graduation ring, and for getting rid of her driver’s licence after his brother Vincent insisted he do so.

“I would like to say sorry for what I’ve done, and for the hurt I’ve caused the family,” Stanford said.

“It’s over now and I hope I won’t cause anymore trouble.

“I’m incredibly sorry, I did a really stupid thing and unfortunately I can’t take it back.”

Vincent Stanford had been waiting for a 12-year-old child at the school where Stephanie Scott taught, but he came across Stephanie Scott instead. When he discovered her, he went home, got his rape kit, and came back. After raping and murdering her, he dumped her body in Cocoparra National Park, and mailed her engagement ring, graduation ring and driver’s licence to Marcus and asked him to get rid of them.

The two pieces of jewellery sold for $705, and Marcus Stanford was charged with accessory to murder after the fact last year. He was sentenced to a year and three months in prison for his crime, and was recently released on September 9.

Vincent and Marcus Stanford’s father Steve Stanford also admits he ‘doesn’t understand why’ Vincent raped and murdered Stephanie Scott.

Brad Pitt To Fight For Joint Custody Of The Kids In Divorce With Angelina Jolie

Along with the news that Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from husband Brad Pitt yesterday came the revelation that the actress has petitioned the court for ‘physical’ custody of their six children.

According to divorce papers signed by Jolie is wishing to grant Pitt visitation rights to Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and eight-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox.

While there has been speculation that Jolie doesn’t approve of Pitt’s parenting, PEOPLE reports he will ‘fight hard’ because he believes sole physical custody, ‘doesn’t seem like what’s best for the children.’

“Brad thinks Angelina is a great mother,” the insider says. “But he is also a great father. There is no way he is going to be absent for any part of his kids’ lives.”

TMZ, reports that there was no “third person” to blame for the divorce, citing “anger issues and substance abuse” as contributing factors that led to Jolie’s decision.

Moving trucks were seen arriving at the Jolie-Pitt Los Angeles property yesterday, with police officers working to keep the swarms of paparazzi away.

CBS’ crime documentary The Case Of: JonBenet Ramsey caused quite the stir when investigators suggested that the most likely scenario for the murder is that Burke Ramsey killed JonBenet.

The forensic experts broke down evidence to suggest that Burke got angry at JonBenet, ran after her and hit her over the head with a heavy flashlight, then the parents had covered it up and staged the ransom note.

Now, in unsurprising news, Burke Ramsey’s lawyer L. Lin Wood has confirmed that he will be suing CBS over the documentary.

She told TMZ, “”You damn betcha I’m gonna sue CBS, the phoney experts and everyone else that put this thing together.”

CBS also told TMZ that the network “stands by the broadcast and will do so in court.”

Police Find Five Bodies After Frantic 911 Call

“He’s obviously a serial killer”

Last week it was reported that Shawn Grate, 40, was charged with two counts of murder and one count of kidnapping and is set to face life in prison.

Now, local police have linked the Ohio man to the deaths of at least five women.

He was discovered after a woman he kidnaped managed to free herself from where she was tied up and called police while he slept.

Thankfully when police arrived the kidnapped woman was unharmed, however they found two bodies inside the house and a third body buried in nearby Mansfield, Ohio.

Stacey Stanley, 43, was a recovering drug addict whom Grate beat to death and the second was 29-year-old Elizabeth Griffith who went missing a month earlier.

Grate led police to the third body, identified as 29-year-old Candice Cunningham who was never reported missing.

According to The Washington Post he told authorities about a fourth victim Rebekah Leicy, who he claimed to have strangled in 2015. Police originally thought she died from an overdose.

He also opened up about the first woman he ever killed in Marion County almost a decade ago.

The woman, who is yet to be identified, was found in 2007, burnt and near a dump with no identification and no missing report filed against her. Grate told authorities that she was 26 and sold magazine subscriptions to his mother. One day she failed to deliver them, which upset his mother and subsequently him as well.

Marion County Sheriff Tim Bailey the lead investigator said Grate ran into the woman a year later and convinced her to get in his car, as he wanted to purchase some magazines. Grate then drove her to his home, stabbed her to death and concealed her in his basement before moving the body to the dump where “he set the body on fire.”

Bailey said, “he’s obviously a serial killer,” and noted that “when you start in 2003 or 2004 and you’re still doing it in 2016, there’s got to be something in between. It’s hard to believe that others aren’t out there”

Grate has pleaded not guilty to his two murder charges and one kidnapping charge. He is yet to be charged in connection with the other cases despite his alleged confessions.

How Old Is Too Old To Have A Child?

Exploring the new trend of older parents

In 2010 Anthea Nichols became Australia’s oldest woman to give birth after falling pregnant naturally at the age of 50.

Anthea met her husband Peter later in life and the couple never planned to become parents. Thinking that ship had sailed, they were told their chances of conceiving were two million to one and so contraception was not high on their agenda.

You can imagine the couple’s surprise when they found out they were expecting.

“As soon as I found out I cried,” she told news.com.au.

“We were advised by both our GP and our obstetrician to terminate the pregnancy. We had to give it some serious consideration, but Pete was stronger than I was and felt really blessed,” she said.

Their son Nick is now a happy and healthy five-year-old.

Last month, a Tasmanian woman aged 63 became the oldest woman to give birth after she welcomed a daughter through IVF with her partner, aged 78.

At the time it was reported that the couple had undergone multiple rounds of IVF and finally conceived through donor embryo.

The case sparked much debate, with many labeling the couple as “irresponsible”.

“I think getting people of that age pregnant is irresponsible,” Monash University professor Gab Kovacs told the Herald Sun in August.

“That child will need looking after for 20 years, and there’s a possibility she won’t be able to do that.

“Our bodies weren’t designed to have children in our 60s. I don’t think any responsible IVF unit in Australia would treat someone of that age, and it’s not a standard of medicine I would condone”.

SBS’s Insight explored the issue this week with a look at the science involved in reproduction as well as a human’s right to procreate.

While men will continue to produce sperm until they die, woman are born with all their eggs, and this number rapidly deteriorates over time, eventually disappearing completely.

While scientific advances have made it possible for women to extend this window, but at what cost.

“Once they’ve actually gotten pregnant, the risks are that we’re putting the pregnancy on top of an older heart, an older set of lungs, an older set of kidneys and pregnancy does put a strain on all the body’s organs,” Dr Gino Pecoraro, a gynaecologist and obstetrics spokesperson for the Australian Medical Association (AMA) tells Insight.

“Biology is cruel, not politically correct and doesn’t care about the women’s movement or your career,” Dr Pecoraro says. “It does get harder as you get older.”

The current median age for Australian mother’s according to the Australian Bureau of Stastics is 30.8, but this is rising. The number of new mothers aged between 45 and 49 doubled from 2004 to 2014.

Insight reports that South Australia is the only state to currently have legislated IVF cut-off age limits at 52.

But not to worry, because ‘Frozen’ actress Kristen Bell and everybody’s favourite talk show host Ellen DeGeneres have the perfect solution.

“Kristen and I are the perfect choice [to replace Posh and Sporty], obviously” Ellen quipped whilst filming for ‘The Ellen Show’ on Monday night.

“It’s a no brainer!” Kristen replied, before the pair launched into a rendition of the Spice Girl’s 1996 hit ‘Wannabe’.

Kristen aka ‘Fresh Garlic Spice’ rocked a pair of white oversized flatforms, a waxy purple dress and a hot pink fur coat during the audition.

Ellen aka ‘Basil Spice’ appeared to be channeling Mel C’s sporty vibes in a two-piece red Adidas tracksuit with matching pink highlights.

During the 2 minute clip, ‘Basil’ and ‘Fresh Garlic’ attempt to sing along to the famous track, with Ellen adlibbing “We’re the perfect choice for the new Spice Girls…I know a lot of spices!”

Karl Stefanovic Weighs In On Brad Pitt And Angelina Jolie’s Divorce

His comments come amidst his own marriage breakdown.

Today host Karl Stefanovic and News Corp’s Sarrah Le Marquand and Nine’s finance editor Ross Greenwood discussed celebrity couples’ right to privacy on the show this morning.

This is an issue that is very close to home for Karl, as news only recently broke of his own split from wife of 21 years, Cassandra Thorburn.

The topic came up in light of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s divorce, announced late yesterday.

“You can obviously argue it is no one’s business what is going on inside there, but they are high profile, it is a tough one,” he said.

Sarrah Le Marquand took the stance that they are already so in the public eye, so it’s inevitable that the news would break and people would be talking about it.

“You can’t expect anything other than for it to fold out before the media … I definitely feel for them, but like I say, of course it is going to play out before the world,” said Le Marquand.

Karl though about the impact this would have on their children, too.

“That fishbowl, I would imagine, would be very difficult if you are living inside of it. Trying to repair or trying to look after your kids as well,” he said.

Karl Stefanovic recently moved out of his wife’s house, and the pair have yet to comment on reports that their marriage is over.

Two years on from her famous feminist speech, Emma Watson has once again addressed the UN General Assembly, this time reporting on gender parity in global universities.

As an ambassador for HeforShe, Watson urged universities to ensure the safety of woman on campus and noted how important it is for female representation across student and faculty populations.

“As we leave home for the first time to study at the places we have worked so hard to get, we must not see or experience double standards. We need to see equal respect, leadership and pay,” Watson said. “The university experience must tell woman that their brain power is valued and not just that, that they belong within leadership of the university itself.”

Watson highlighted that the experience “must make it clear that the safety of woman, minorities and anyone who may be vulnerable is a right not a privilege. A right that will be respected by a community that believes and supports survivors and that recognizes that when one persons safety is violated, everyone feels their own safety is violated.”

“A university should be a place of refuge that takes action against all forms of violence. That’s why, we believe, that students should leave university believing in, striving for and expecting societies of true equality… in every sense and that universities have the power to be a vital catalyst for that change,” Watson said.

If there’s anything in fashion more gorgeous than an Erdem dress, I can’t think of it. In London this week Erdem Moralioglu showed just why he’s considered a master of the special occasion dress.

His exquisite Spring ’17 show felt romantic and emotional. The operatic music helped, but really, the clothes were so unashamedly lovely they could move a girl to tears. (Who me? Cry over the fabulousness of a frock? Never. Okay, maybe.)

The show was charmingly accessorised by black straw hats with brims moulded into undulating waves, thick black velvet ribbons and Japanese-style platform sandals – tip: practice your tottering; exaggerated sole-heights turned up in several shows.

Anyway. It’s easy to see why willowy English girls like Kiera Knightley, Lily James and Alexa Chung love to wear Erdem on the red rug. Indeed this collection seemed made for Knightley, so much so that New York Times fashion critic Vanessa Friedman concluded that it had a “Pirates of the Caribbean overlay”. Maybe, but for me, it never strayed too far into the costume department.

Moralioglu began the season thinking about a 17th century shipwreck, and his silhouettes did riff on historical lines – high-waists, puffed sleeves – while the jacquards had a courtly richness familiar from TV shows like The Tudors and The Royals.

But these clothes weren’t bogged down in the past. They felt light, free and full of movement. And the craftsmanship is off the scale. Historical-schmorical. When so many brands are speeding up, Moralioglu seems to be slowing down. If you ask me that’s a completely modern idea.

Michelle Obama and Melania Trump rate it. The Duchess of Cambridge is a fan. Sam Cam wore it often when her husband was the British PM. The sleeker sort of Hollywood leading lady loves it: Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain have all stepped out in Roksanda.

Designed by Roksanda Ilincic, it’s the smart London label-of-choice for a certain kind of globally successful woman in the public eye. The sort who wants to look elegant but not predictable. To say, via her clothes: “I am fashion savvy enough to get this…” while still looking polished and chic.

Recent collections from the Serbian-born Brit have focused on single-hue or colour-blocked, structured dresses, that can be worn in the boardroom, to gala openings, or, I don’t know, when giving a peculiar speech at the Republican Convention that’s identical to one your rival gave previously.

But for Spring ’17 Ilincic changed tack. Still inspired by colour, texture and shape, this season there’s a new sportiness to her look. That came through most forcefully in the striped webbing she used on her necklines and cuffs.

Jewel toned slippery satins were contrasted with classic grey wool checks and intricate striped knits. There was a crushed golden party dress that zinged with energy, and a high-impact gown, the white bodice sewn with springy black feathers. Nipped-waist jackets were layered over longer-line pleats. And those pants! High-wasted, sculpting, lengthening and made zippy with the addition of thick go-faster stripes down the outer-leg. The pant of the season. You heard it here first.

Ilincic is such a gifted colourist, her palette always dances with excitement, and this season was no exception. If you’ve never contemplated wearing red with pink, now is the time.

UPDATE: A court has heard that Tiahleigh’s 19-year-old foster brother Trent Thorburn was worried that she was pregnant, and confessed this to his cousin soon before Tia’s death.

The Courier Mail reports that the revelation occurred over Facebook messenger, where Trent confessed to his cousin that he’d had sex with the 12-year-old. He had also mentioned the sex to his mother.

“This defendant betrayed her trust. He abused his position as big brother and took advantage of her,” French said.

“A consequence of that is her young life has been taken.”

Trent has been denied bail on four charges, and the case will return to court in November.

Tiahleigh Parlmer’s Foster Father Is Currently In Induced Coma

Tiahleigh Palmer’s foster father is currently in an induced coma after being charged with her murder and interfering with the corpse.

News.com.au reports Rick Thorburn, along with his wife and two sons also face charges linked with her death. Julene Thorburn and her 20-year-old son have been charged with perjury and attempting to pervert the course of justice, and her 19-year-old son has been charged with incest, two counts of perjury and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Tia had been living with the family for 10 months before she died. Rick Thorburn claimed to police that he dropped her off to school on the morning she disappeared, and 6 days later, her body was found in Pimpana River.

Thorburn was arrested last night, 11 months after Tia’s body was found. The charges arose after Tia’s biological mother Cindy revealed that the car believed to transport Tia’s body to the river belonged to Rick Thorburn before it was recently sold. Police will allege that he murdered her to cover up his son’s incestuous relationship with her. Thorburn collapsed shortly after being arrested at the police watchhouse and was taken to hospital.

According to ABC News, Julene Thorburn is currently cooperating with the police, and will be one of the key witnesses in court. Detective Inspector Hanson told ABC News that it has been a tough investigation.

“It is one of the most difficult I have been involved with,” he said.

“Some jobs aren’t easy. There was no person located at the scene admitting it, it was a real ‘who dunnit’ type of investigation.

“We believe we have sufficient evidence to take this before court.”

With Rick Thorburn now in hospital, he will liked face a bedside hearing.

You can rely on flower power to lift a mood.

There’s something so uplifting about the sight of plants blooming, especially in unexpected places. Like Paul Smith’s London fashion week venue, a vast aluminium-floored industrial warehouse space near King’s Cross train station, softened by sprouting patches of planted wild flowers. No wonder the designer, who turned 70 this year, skipped so merrily down this runway to take his post-show bow. In doing so, he demonstrated just how well-cut his suits are – really, who needs jogging pants when you’ve got a little something in linen by Smith?

Tailoring and gardens are as quintessentially British as he is, and those twin themes defined his approach to Spring ’17. He cut his relaxed suits, wide-sleeved spring coats, mid-length dresses and slouchy pants in rust, buttercup yellow, bubble gum pink and grass green with a loose, unstructured line that was all about ease of wear.

“Louche” and “rakish” were the words the designer himself used; his aim, according to the show notes, was to allow “the shape of the body to define the fall of the lines”.

To windowpane checks and punchy seersuckers, he added the crayon-like tulip-shaped florals, inspired by a recent show of the late Swedish artist Hilma Af Klint’s paintings at the Serpentine Gallery.

Standouts include his long-line shorts-suits, one in navy with a spriggy white floral that from a distance could be polka dots, and those painterly florals on a deep bottle green background.

Smith’s clothes transcend trends in a way that’s refreshing – he’s not about to jump on the Vetements ugly-chic bandwagon, or suddenly start covering everything in sequins. And it’s this continuity that makes his vision so appealing. It simply works – and while we’re on that subject, he just solved your smart-but-still-casual workwear issues in one fell swoop. Now that’s something to skip about.

In case you missed it, after just over two years of marriage, Angelina Jolie has filed for divorce from husband Brad Pitt, citing irreconcilable differences and “the health of [my] family”.

Understandably, Jolie wants the best lawyer possible in her corner. And one who knows her already – Wasser represented Jolie in her divorce from Billy Bob Thornton.

Wasser is ruthless in the defence of her clients, so much so that she is known as the “disso queen”.

The divorce attorney’s previous clients include – but are not limited to – Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Garner, Melanie Griffith and Stevie Wonder, along with all three of the Kardashian sisters. She’s also the daughter of Denis Wasser – himself a famous defence lawyer – who represented Tom Cruise and Steven Spielberg in the dissolution of their marriages. Her father even gave her the nickname Alison so that her initials would read L.A.W.

At this stage in her career, Wasser isn’t cheap. She charges US$850 per hour, requires a US$25 000 retainer and rarely takes on a client worth less than US$10 million.

So, why does the A-list love her so? Well, she knows a thing or two about handling the media. Wasser waits for high profile cases to pile up and submits them to the court together, so that the media attention is diluted. This explains why we often see a flurry of break-announcements splashed across headlines.
She also usually advises clients to settle their cases out of courts.

Wasser worked with Melanie Griffith to keep the public fallout of her divorce from Antonio Banderas to a minimum. “We worked on it [the divorce] for a good year and a half before it came out on TMZ,” Griffith said. “And when we did file it, there were some personal things that were agreed upon by Antonio and myself that we had removed from the official papers so they wouldn’t get out.”

When it comes to divorce, Wasser is Hollywood’s go-to girl. Angelina Jolie appears to be in safe hands.

Since Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie announced their divorce just hours ago, there has already been speculation that the reason is Brad Pitt’s affair with Marion Cotillard.

However a source has told PEOPLE that this is not the case, and that it has nothing to do with Cotillard.

Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard co-star in the upcoming film Allied, a World War II drama.

The New York Post has disputed this, with a source claiming that marital issues came about when Angelina Jolie hired a ‘private eye’ to watch the pair.

The New York Post source said, “She hired a private eye because she felt that he was fooling around with her on the set, and it turns out, he was. And that was the final straw.” PEOPLE‘s source does not agree with this.

Angelina’s estranged father Jon Voight has also commented that it was a strange decision for Angelina to make, so something big must have happened.

“Something very serious must have happened for Angie to make a decision like this,” he said, according to Inside Edition. “I don’t know what it is. It’s a sad thing. Say a little prayer.”

The Case: Of JonBenet Ramsey’s Conclusion Will Send Shivers Down Your Spine

Part Two of The Case of: JonBenet Ramsey aired last night on Channel Nine and came to a chilling conclusion.

After analysing new evidence and picking apart the case, former FBI profiler Jim Clemente and criminal behaviour analyst Laura Richards put forward their theory behind the suspect who they think killed JonBenet.

In Part One of the series, suspicions arose when they looked at the extra six seconds of the 911 call that revealed this very eerie conversation:

“We’re not speaking to you,” said a voice that sounded like John Ramsey.

“What did you do? Help me Jesus,” said a voice that sounded like Patsy Ramsey.

“What did you find?” said a child’s voice, which could have been JonBenet’s brother Burke.

In the series, they determined that the weapon that crushed JonBenet’s skull was most likely a flashlight – the same flashlight that was found nearby the scene of the crime. They even tested to see if a 9-year-old could deliver enough force for a deathly blow, and it was proved feasible.

This context makes a psychological interview with Burke Ramsey when he was 9-years-old all the more creepy. When asked how he thinks his sister was killed, he actually gives a physical demonstration.

Which leads them to one of the key pieces of evidence linked to the crime – the pineapple found in JonBenet’s stomach. A bowl of pineapple was found on the table in the kitchen with fingerprints matching Burke’s on it.

The team of experts on the show came up with a theory that JonBenet had angered Burke by stealing a piece of pineapple from him and running away with it. Burke followed her and hit her with a flashlight, accidentally killing her. This scenario seems even more likely given that Burke had hit JonBenet with a golf club before, and had smeared faeces on her bed and on her things.

There was not conclusive evidence to prove that this is actually what happened, however it does seem like the most likely scenario from the evidence available.

Given the stark similarities between Patsy Ramsey’s handwriting tests and the ransom note, they concluded that the parents covered up Burke’s actions to protect their remaining child.

Angelina Jolie has filed for divorce from Brad Pitt, it was confirmed overnight.

Jolie’s representative Robert Offer said in a statement that the actress filed for “dissolution of marriage” on Monday, adding that the “decision was made for the health of the family”.

“She will not be commenting, and asks that the family be given its privacy at this time,” Offer added in a statement according to the BBC.

Pitt, 52, and Jolie, 41, have been together since 2004. They married in France in 2014.

Between them they have six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh and twins Knox and Vivienne.

According to TMZ, the couple separated on September 15.

When Carr married a dentist, Jay Brent, she made the decision to leave show business. She and Jay had two daughters, Jennifer and Emily. She became the grandmother of two grandchildren: Emma and Derek and unfortunately died from complications related to dementia.

58-year-old Kym Karath is an American actress best known for her role as Gretl, the youngest of the von Trapp children in The Sound of Music. After the musical, Karath popped up on several television shows in the 60s, 70s and 80s, from ‘Peyton Place’ and ‘The Brady Bunch’ to ‘All My Children.’

She lives in Los Angeles with her husband (whom she met in Paris, where she modeled and studied art history) and son and remains close to her ‘Sound of Music’ co-stars: “Big sister” Heather Menzies (Louisa) is her son’s godmother. Karath is said to be currently working on several new upcoming films, although there are no firm plans in the pipeline.

Angela Cartwright, the cheeky brunette Brigitta is now 64 years of age. After ‘The Sound of Music,’ Cartwright went on to play the middle daughter, Penny Robinson, on the CBS sci-fi show ‘Lost in Space’ from 1965-68 and later starred in more than a dozen other television series.

She has been a professional photographer and author for more than 30 years and comes from a showbiz family. Her older sister Veronica Cartwright is a character actress who’s amassed more than 120 acting credits.

Marta was the second-youngest von Trapp played by 60-year-old Debbie Turner. Turner had a successful career in print and television commercials as a young girl, before leaving Hollywood to concentrate on her studies and skiing, which she pursued in college and professionally after graduation.

As a lifelong lover of flowers, Turner became a well-known floral designer and runs a flower-arrangement studio. She now lives in Minnesota with her husband and their four daughters.

Nicholas Hammond

Hammond, 67, one of the few kids in the film who had prior acting experience before landing the von Trapp role, played the second-oldest of the children. He landed the role of Spiderman on US television before moving to Sydney, where he married Australian actress and former director of the Sydney Theatre Company Robyn Nevin.

Duane Chase

Duane Chase

As the young Kurt, Chase played a practical joke on Maria but was quickly won over by the singing governess. After a small stint on television series ‘The Big Valley’ in 1966, Chase left the industry to study geology at the University of California Santa Barbara, eventually earning his master’s degree in the subject from the University of Alabama.

He is now 65 and lives in Seattle with his wife where he works as a computer-software designer specializing in geophysics and geology.

About 1 in 500 pregnancies are ‘concealed’ or ‘unknown’. Meet the women who didn’t know they were pregnant… until they were giving birth

Most women have nine months to come to terms with the idea of having a baby. The women featured in a recent episode of SBS’s The Feed had just a few hours.

Approximately 1 in 500 pregnancies are ‘unknown’ or ‘concealed’ pregnancies, according to Dr Euan Wallace, who runs the obstetrics department at Monash university. It occurs often in young women with strong abdominal muscles, who put on only the weight of the baby they are carrying. Some even retain their periods for the duration of the pregnancy.

Two such women are Lara Vrkic and Megan Bradford, both of whom featured heavily in SBS’ The Feed. They were both ambitious, popular young women when they discovered that they were pregnant… while in the middle of their labour.

Vrkic was still living at home and had just started a new job when she woke up one morning feeling sick. She rushed through her house to the bathroom, and “as soon as I got [there] he just came out. I yelled out to my dad because he’s really good in those situations. Dad wrapped [him] up in a towel… and my brother called the ambulance.”

“I had never held a baby,” Vrkic said. “The ambulance people were like here, hold your child, and I was like, I don’t know how to. You’re going to have to tell me how to hold a newborn.”

Bradford’s experience, as documented in The Feed, was similar. The night before she gave birth she recalled having severe cramps that woke her up intermittently. The pain became so severe she went to the hospital, where triage workers placed an ultrasound machine on her stomach and recorded a heartbeat.

“At that point I went, ‘oh my god’,” Bradford recalled. “They said ‘you’re in labour, and you’re going to have a baby today.’ I vomited a little bit and we [my boyfriend Matthew and I] both cried a little bit.”

As experts explain in the documentary, the experience of having a surprise labour is an incredibly confronting one. Rather than having the term of a pregnancy to slowly come to terms with the idea of giving birth and becoming a mother, for these women it is literally a fait accompli.

“The major risk for women whose pregnancy is unknown is that they don’t access pregnancy care,” Dr Wallace said in the documentary, referring to the prenatal medical assistance that women usually receive: regular checkups, advice and counselling, information about what to do, and more importantly – what not to do while pregnant.

Both women drunk and ate what they wanted throughout their pregnancy (Bradford even had her 21st birthday party when she was seven months pregnant, and she also smoked). Both women expressed concerns about whether their sons might display any learning difficulties or developmental delays later on in life.

But the other significant concern is a psychological one.

“They genuinely don’t know [they are pregnant],” Dr Wallace said. “As you can imagine it is such a confronting experience to be normal, healthy young women one day and a mother one hour later.”

Child Bride Problem Is Rife In Australia

Most 9-year-old girls are busy making loom bands, cracking open chemistry sets or watching ‘Dance Academy’. Marriage is the furthest thing from any tween’s mind. But a ‘tsunami’ of young Sydney girls is being trafficked overseas, destined to become wives of men they’ve never met.

More than 70 cases have been reported to a government-run child protection helpline over the past two years, reports the Daily Telegraph. According to the Australian Federal Police, the rate of child-bride trafficking has doubled. Tip-offs have come from teachers, counsellors and school principals.

NSW Family and Community Services Minister Brad Hazzard is urging the federal government to take action against the “barbaric and cruel” practice. “There is no doubt that there is a tsunami of young girls – some as young as nine – who have been taken overseas and forced to become child brides, and quite simply the Baird government is saying to those communities this is Australia you are living in and you must acknowledge our laws and protect our children,” he told the ABC.

“Many of these young children are ending up in our youth refuges in many parts of NSW.”

Mr Hazzard said the Muslim community needs to condemn the practice. “The imams in the Muslim community need to speak up more and indeed any other religious leaders in communities who might pursue this practice,” he said. “Each of these young people, who are being threatened, are obviously at grave risk from their families if they do not comply.

“I have been advised some feel even suicidal if they are not living up to their parents’ expectations.”

Muslims Australia president Keysar Trad told the ABC he’s shocked by the reports. “I know we have had a campaign for a long time to educate people that one of the conditions for a marriage to be valid under Islamic teachings is consent,” explains Mr Trad. “For anybody to force a young lady or a young man into a marriage against their will is wrong.”

But the Attorney-General’s Department told marie claire, “Forced marriage is not limited to any particular cultural group, religion or ethnicity.”

The NSW Department of Family and Community Services’ (FACS) caseworkers and staff are deeply troubled by cases of forced marriages involving children, a FACS spokesperson told marie claire. ”Forced marriage involving children is an abhorrent practice incompatible with Australian law.”

Forced marriage is a serious crime and all suspected victims of forced marriage should be referred to the Australian Federal Police, urges the Attorney-General’s Department.

Jim Carrey Is Being Sued For His Girlfriend’s Suicide

He is facing charges of wrongful death and drug violations.

Jim Carrey’s late girlfriend Cathriona White committed suicide in September last year, and now her estranged husband is suing Jim Carrey for wrongful death and drug violations.

Mark Burton was married to Cathriona White at the time of her death, however she was in a relationship with Carrey. He filed a lawsuit against Carrey on Monday.

USA Today reports that Burton is trying to accuse Jim Carrey of being ‘reckless’ and ‘deceitful’ before and after White’s death.

“After obtaining these drugs illegally and under a bogus name (‘Arthur King’), Mr. Carrey proceeded to provide the prescription drugs to … Cathriona White,” despite knowing that White was “prone to depression and had previously attempted to take her own life,” the documents say. “The result that followed was predictable and foreseeable.”

Carrey responded to these accusations late Monday night by releasing a statement through his publicist.

“What a terrible shame. It would be easy for me to get in a back room with this man’s lawyer and make this go away, but there are some moments in life when you have to stand up and defend your honor against the evil in this world,” the statement said.

It continued: “I will not tolerate this heartless attempt to exploit me or the woman I loved. Cat’s troubles were born long before I met her and sadly her tragic end was beyond anyone’s control. I really hope that some day soon people will stop trying to profit from this and let her rest in peace.”

“For me, exercise is about constantly being active rather than following a strict routine. It really doesn’t matter what you do – walking, tennis, running – just keep moving. I go to the gym and I dedicate periods of my day to exercise because I really love being active. It makes it a lot easier to stay fit when you’re changing up your routine. Boredom kills motivation!”

Sam Frost Reveals Blake Dumped Her In Front Of Producers

She opens up about their awkward breakup in time for the next season of the Bachelorette.

With the second season of The Bachelorette premiering tomorrow, Australia’s first bachelorette, Sam Frost, has been reflecting on her own journey.

In a Mamamia podcast, the 27-year-old breakfast radio host opened up about how she was really dumped by then Bachelor Blake Garvey.

Blake proposed to Sam during the finale of the second season of The Bachelor, then broke up with her the following day, with Blake admitting he was in love with third place contestant, Louise Pillidge.

“It was with the Executive Producer of the show and the publicist… I think he had thought he’d made it very clear, but he hadn’t,” she said.

“Our publicist literally said – ‘What are you trying to say? Are you breaking up with Sam? What is going on?’ she continued.

“And then they looked at me and said ‘Sam – what is going on?’ And I go – ‘I dunno, don’t look at me. I’m not the one talking.’”

Of course, there was light at the end of the tunnel. Sam agreed to be Australia’s first Bachelorette, and fell in love with now boyfriend Sasha Mielczarek.

“I felt it straight away with Sash, and I turned into a nervous wreck.”

Hollywood Insiders Set To Expose Famous Actor Who Raped Corey Haim

This could be one of the biggest scandals in Hollywood.

Months after Corey Feldman gave a revealing interview to The Hollywood Reporter about the scourge of child abuse and rape in Hollywood, RadarOnline reports that some Hollywood insiders are banding together and planning to expose the star who raped Corey Haim and countless other child stars.

Corey Feldman told the story co-star Corey Haim’s rape and his own by the same famous face of Hollywood after Elijah Wood made comments that there was “something major… going on in Hollywood”.

Sources to RadarOnline revealed that the abuser targeted his victims by getting close to them and convincing them that they were in love with him.

“The first time this man raped Corey [Haim] was after he got him high on pot,” one said.

“He fooled him. Corey was vulnerable, and he fell for this person. He believed, like so many victims, that he was ‘in love’ with his abuser. He was so confused by the sexual encounter, and believed it was love.”

Corey Feldman has previously said that though part of him wants to expose the person who committed these crimes, he is concerned about the resulting media battle that would fall on him.

“People are frustrated, people are angry, they want to know how is this happening, and they want answers — and they turn to me and they say, “Why don’t you be a man and stand up and name names and stop hiding and being a coward?” said Feldman.

“I would love to name names. I’d love to be the first to do it. But unfortunately California — conveniently enough — has a statute of limitations that prevents that from happening.”

One source told RadarOnline that a confidant of Corey Haim is planning on exposing the abuser, despite these laws – in the hope that the statute of limitations will soon be changed to include victims of sex abuse.

“Holding power to account is justice,” the source said. “This individual should be quaking in his boots. Their life is about to come crashing down.”

In an interview with Elle US, the Suicide Squad star was asked if she’d ever been into online dating. And her answer might surprise you.

“I don’t think I’d ever be comfortable with that because technology still freaks me out a bit. I don’t even know how to Direct Message someone on Instagram,” the 26-year-old Australian confessed.

Margot admitted that she’s pretty old fashioned when it comes to technology. “I still write letters. I send thank you notes, not emails, even if I’m staying at a friend’s house or something. I’m very old school.”

So it probably explains why she’s so obsessed with knowing more about online dating apps like Tinder, and the top-secret Raya. “Tinder fascinates me. Raya fascinates me. I make my friends pull up their profiles and I’m like, ‘Show me everything.'”

If you haven’t heard of Raya, it’s the secret version of Tinder for famous people. A-listers rumoured to have used the platform at some point include Cara Delevingne, Ruby Rose, Avicii, Joe Jonas and Australian DJ Flume.

Magda Szubanski Brilliantly Confronts Fiona Nash On Marriage Equality Plebiscite

Actress Magda Szubanski and Nationals senator Fiona Nash butted heads last night on ABC’s Q&A when the topic of a marriage equality plebiscite came up.

First, rock star Jimmy Barnes offered his concerns on the debate in Ireland and how dangerous it has been for families, and how we probably don’t want to put people through that in Australia.

Magda argued that this issue should be a human right, not something that the Australian public should have to vote on. She encapsulated this argument by confronting Fiona with a simple question.

“One simple question, do you think I’m equal to you?”

It was then followed by this exchange:

“Of course I do,” said Nash.

“If I was your daughter, and, being gay, would you think that I should have the right to be married?” said Szubanski.

“I’ve been asked this question a lot over the last 12 months and my response was that my view is still the traditional view of marriage. I love my children, regardless of what they ever brought home for me, it would make absolutely no difference at all. I completely respect your view and your desire to see that as equality…” Nash continued.

“But you won’t give me my rights. Thanks for nothing,” Szubanski concluded.

Tom Hiddleston made a dapper appearance at the Emmy Awards on Sunday night, and the newly single actor didn’t seem too fazed by his breakup.

Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston dated for about three months, and broke up a couple of weeks ago, while Tom Hiddleston was in Australia filming Thor: Ragnarok.

On the red carpet at the Emmy Awards, PEOPLE asked him whether he and Taylor Swift are still friends, and he replied, “Yes. Yes, we are.”

He also gave a smug smile that some have speculated confirms that the whole relationship really was a publicity stunt, and that they have duped us all!

According to some reports, Tom Hiddleston was getting along VERY well with Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra at the Emmy After-Party, so there could even be a new relationship in the works…

The Damning New Evidence Revealed In The JonBenet Documentary

Part One of The Case Of: JonBenet Ramsey premiered last night on Channel Nine, and it’s already got people talking about the curious unsolved murder.

The six-year-old beauty queen was killed in her home on Christmas day in Boulder, Colorado in 1996, and found in the basement hours after her death. While the case had previously cleared her family as suspects through DNA tests on her clothes in 2008, the investigation was reopened in 2009. The new documentary has gathered together a team of experts to analyse the evidence again, and has even revealed new evidence that looks damning for her family.

So far, there are three major bombshells that have dropped from the show…

1. Six More Seconds Recorded From The 911 Call

When JonBenet’s mother Patsy rang 911, there were several strange elements to the call – including the fact that she hung up on the operator, and that she could be heard in the background after the call saying “Okay, we’ve called the police, now what?”. As a result, the 911 operator, Kim Archuletta, has spoken out for the first time about the call.

“It sounded like she said, ‘Okay, we’ve called the police, now what?’ and that disturbed me,” she said. “So I remained on the phone trying to listen to what was being said. It sounded like there were two voices in the room, maybe three. Different ones. I had a bad feeling about this, to me it sounded rehearsed.”

This was never addressed in the original case. From analysis of the recording, experts think the voices could be saying:

“We’re not speaking to you,” said a voice that sounded like John Ramsey.

“What did you do? Help me Jesus,” said a voice that sounded like Patsy Ramsey.

“What did you find?” said a child’s voice, which could have been JonBenet’s brother Burke. This is particularly damning as the Ramseys have always claimed that he was asleep during the events that day.

This all seems very eerie.

2. The Ransom Note Seems Staged

In the show, forensic linguist Jim Fitzgerald analysed the two-and-a-half page long ransom note left in the house for JonBenet’s body. The note was written with paper from the house, and it was determined that it would have taken at least about 22 minutes to write.

Fitzgerald concluded from the handwriting and the language used in the note that it was likely written by a woman who was 30 years old or older, and someone who was a native English speaker. The writer had also asked for a very suspicious amount of money – $118,000 US, which was almost exactly the same amount John Bennett Ramsey had received as a bonus that year.

It was even discovered that some lines from the note were directly stolen from the movies Dirty Harry and Speed.

3. The Way The Body Was Discovered Doesn’t Make Sense

FBI agent Ron Walker was the only other agent to set foot in the Ramsey’s house the day of the murder. He opened up in an interview about the curiosities of how the body was discovered.

“Virtually every staged murder scene that I have seen, the perpetrator manipulates the arrival of friends or other family members, who are then put in a situation where they actually discover the body, or they are with the perpetrator as the body is discovered,” he said.

John had apparently grabbed his Fleet White and gone straight to the basement, which is where the body was discovered. He had apparently discovered the body while the lights were off, which was strange, and Walker was taken aback with how John handled the body.

Tonight Part Two will air on Channel Nine at 8:40pm, and apparently the prime suspect will be revealed after the analyse more evidence from the case. We’re already on the edge of our seats!

“A hoax” Fashion critic slams Kanye West and Yeezy

Tim Gunn is not a Yeezy fan.

At. All.

When the influential US fashion commentator was asked about Kanye West’s latest Yeezy collection late last week, he didn’t exactly mince his words.

“I’m totally perplexed about why the fashion industry has not looked at these, frankly, dumb, basic clothes and cried ‘Hoax’,” Gunn told Access Hollywood. ‘I just don’t understand why people are so in awe. [The models were] basically wearing stretch undergarments.”

He added, “I think the only thing dumber than these clothes would be the people who would buy these clothes.”

Ouch.

Gunn’s comments came just days after the rapper’s latest show (which saw models faint in the heat), and just weeks after long lines snaked through Sydney and Melbourne streets as people queued to snag some Yeezy swag.

What do we think?

At marie claire opinions are mixed.

marie claire’s market editor Tara Morris is cautiously generous:

“I think yes, even though Kanye’s designs aren’t revolutionary, he is nailing it in the street wear scene. And while some may say it’s ‘crap’ or a ‘hoax’ .. he’s just talking to a certain market that maybe isn’t for everyone, but what is for everyone? And why shouldn’t it have a place in the fashion realm.

“If people will line up for nine hrs (all over the world) just to get a hoodie, that alone shows just how much he has tapped into a market that wants his stuff.

“And whilst his time in the fashion world might not be forever, I’m totally on board the Yeezy train for now.”

StyledBy marie claire content editor Brittany Henderson is less impressed.

“Unlike Tim Gunn, I don’t think Yeezy fans are dumb. Want to drop $700 on a pair of cotton tracksuit pants? Knock yourself out.

“But I don’t buy into the hype. Since debuting the brand in 2015, Kanye has rolled out strikingly similar pieces: skin-tight or super loose athleisure in muted, monochromatic hues; iterations of the Yeezy Boost sneakers; all those bodysuits… none of which I find particularly inspiring. Or wearable for that matter.

“Who looks good in these clothes? And if the West/Kardashian publicity machine weren’t behind it, would anyone seriously be taking any notice?

“What really gets me is the valuable air time West is given over up-and-coming designers, that the celebrity factor completely overshadows the discovery of new talent. His show at NYFW last week was a five-hour ordeal, meaning many editors missed out on seeing smaller brands on the official calendar. I know where I would rather be.”

Cafe Henrie in the Lower East Side is your cliche fashion week haunt, but for good reason. The food is fresh and healthy and, most importantly, the interiors are an Instagrammers’ dream; pastel blues and pinks make for a super cool picture every time.

2#/ Cardio with a view

Take an early-morning run over the Brooklyn Bridge – far better than the hotel’s treadmill, with views of the city and surrounding burroughs.

3#/ The fashion week break

It’s only fashion; take a break with a long walk along the Highline, a leafy, disused railroad stretching along the west side of Chelsea. It’s a great way to get some city skyline views and take in the vibe of NYC; you can also stop for a well-deserved drink at one of the outside bars.

4. The tourist trap (that’s worth doing)

You can’t visit New York and not go to the top of the Empire State Building. There’s nothing more New York than these views.

5#/ The quick eat

Drop into Chelsea Market (at least once, preferably more) either for super good takeaway options or a quick and easy dine-in dinner after a long day at shows.

6#/ The coffee hit

Intelligenstia at the Highline Hotel is the go-to for us Antipodean coffee snobs. Good, strong coffee, just like back home.

7#/ The top shopping spot

Blow up your baggage allowance for the return flight at The Line; a cool-girl apartment where everything is for sale. You can also arrange private appointments for the super-tailored shopping experience. I can’t say your credit card will thank you.

8#/ The iconic eat

Ditch the Fashion Week health kick and get a sandwich at the iconic Katz in the Lower East Side. Pro tip from my boyfriend – go for the pastrami. They even released a super-sized mega-sandwich over Fashion Week for all the hungry models (although I guess us normal people can play too); finish it and eat for free.

9#/ The culture edit

The Whitney Museum is the epitome of culture cool in NYC. This modern art museum provides a welcome meditative change from the action on the ground; it’s also open late on Fridays and Saturdays, which is a nice alternative to the Fashion Week afterparties.

10#/ The end-of-the-day drink

Ditch the cocktail – go for something more New York. Milk & Hops in Chelsea has an amazing locally-brewed beer selection, and also the perfect pretzel-and-cheese/artisan pickle selections to accompany.

Maxwell was a fantastic, if surprising choice for Kerry for her big Emmys moment this year. But lest we all forget, the 39-year-old actress never shies away from taking fashion risks while pregnant.

Her big baby bump reveal happened in a gothic Marc Jacobs gown at the Met Ball this year. And when she was pregnant with her first child in 2014 she went to the SAG awards in a Prada crop top and to the Golden Globes in a mint-green Balenciaga sheath.
