A young woman from Sydney has claimed that authorities have been unable to act on her reports of girls she knows from a Sydney school being forced into marriage.
Bee al-Darraj spoke to The Australian about girls she knew who were as young as 12 and 13, who were sent out of Australia to be married underage. She reports that one had given birth at the age of 14, and a 28-year-old father had signed the birth certificate.
Ms Al-Darraj reported the incidents to the Australian Federal Police, however they released a statement saying that the incidents were not applicable to Australian law as they occurred before 2013.
โForced marriage was criminalised in March 2013,โ they wrote in the statement. โThe legislation was not retrospective so the AFP is not in a position to investigate matters where a marriage or arrangement occurred prior to March 2013.โ
The AFP has reportedly investigated 69 incidents of child marriage in the 2015-2016 financial year, but has only had a few successful prosecutions.
Ms Al-Darraj was unhappy with the response from authorities.
โItโs child trafficking, and they know itโs wrong, but itโs like they have no idea what to do, and if the girls have already left Australia, they canโt do anythingโ.
In correspondence with Ms Al-Darraj, a DFAT officer also explained that the issues she has reported are not covered by Australian law, referring her to officials in Iraq.
โThe ยญcommonwealth legislation which criminalises the act of causing a person to enter into marriage without their full and free consent is not retrospectiveโ.
Ms Al-Darraj worries that this forced marriage is occurring in secret, and the girls have no way out of it.
She claims that families โtry to hide what they are doing. They might bring a girl over from Iraq or Iran for marriage, and everyone knows she is the bride but if questions are asked, she is the niece, or a family friend. And if the police, or the Department (of Family Services) speak to the girl, sheโs terrified. Or else, itโs normal for herโ.
Family and Community Services (FACS) Minister Brad Hazzard has also recently confirmed that there have been 70 cases of girls forced to marry overseas reported to their service since 2014.
โThere is no doubt that there is a tsunami of young girls, some as young as nine, who are being taken overseas and being forced to become child brides,โ Mr Hazzard said.

When your boss says are you free to trial a facial today, you know itโs going to be a good day.
As someone who spends most days glued to my screen and eating lunch at my desk, the chance to not only step away from my desk, but to be treated to a middle of the day pamper session was heaven enough, or so I thought.
Having turned 30 this year, Iโm not exactly a prime candidate for anti-aging procedures but I am at a point where itโs time to get serious about my skin care, because prevention is better than cure, right.
โThe beauty of the treatment is that it is completely tailor-made to each specific skin concern, using appropriate gels and the new Hydraderm machine to treat each client according to his/her desired skin results,โ says Lesley of Canvas Beauty.
First up I filled out a bunch of forms covering off all the information Lesley needed to know about my skin, diet and general health before we headed in for her to take a closer look at what she was dealing with.
Lesley did a thorough examination of my skin so she could select the products best suited to my concerns, then it was time to begin.
โThe treatment is tailored the selection of appropriate products to best treat their concerns, plus the choice of specific gels that are infused with the machine to each area on the face. Masks, serums and creams are all customised.โ
After removing makeup my make up the treatment starts with a deep cleanse, exfoliation and mask before the real fun begins. The treatment is divided into three phases, first up itโs the Dynamic Ionisation phase using massage rollers to โrelease an alternating galvanic current that maximises the in-depth absorption of the gel serums.โ
Next up things get serious with the Oxygenation by Thermal Electrode phase taping into the beneficial effects of heat on the skin. Gentle heat is applied along with an oxygenating cream to help boost cellular activity. I personally didnโt find any discomfort with the heat.
The final phase is all about relaxation with a massage to compliment the technical benefits of the Hydraderm Cellular Energy machine. This helps to relax the facial features and โimprove subcutaneous microcirculation.โ
Coming out of the treatment, despite feeling depressed that it had to come to an end and I had to head back to the office, I was automatically surprised by how plump and luscious my skin felt โ and I was definitely glowing if I do say so myself.
The glow lasted a few days, and I had at least one comment on how great my skin was looking โ which counts as a win in my book โ having struggled with bad skin in the past this was a big tick. Also, unlike some facials Iโve had in the past I didnโt suffer any post-bliss breakouts โ another tick.
As someone who is at the phase in my life where Iโm getting real about skin care and seeing the importance of investing in it quality products and treatments I would definitely go back for this treatment again.
One treatment will set you back $190, so itโs for people who are serious about their skin care, or keen to get an extra glow for a special event.

It would appear that emojis arenโt just useful in the digital world anymore โ one company has created a vibrator in the exact shape of the eggplant emoji.
The Guardian reports that founder of the โEmojibatorโ Jaime Jandler and his partner Kristin already sold out of the toy in September, having only launched the company in late August.
The first release of the product was just an order of 1000, but theyโve already sold another thousand now. Theyโve even got their next product on the way โ another emoji! โ the chilli pepper.
When asked about the idea for the business, Jandler told The Guardian that it was a joke at first.
โI was really just looking to start a new businessโ said Jandler. โI stumbled upon this idea as a joke, in a late-night brainstorming session on video chat.โ
Jandler added that he hopes the product will help stimulate a more open conversation about masturbation.
โOur mission is to destigmatize masturbation and promote healthy sexualityโ he said. โWe donโt think sex needs to be taken seriously all the time, so weโll make more unique products that are both intimate and silly.โ

Kendall Jenner of Victoriaโs Secret, Estee Lauder and 67.8 million Instagram followers fame might appear to have perfect skin, but according to the star this wasnโt always the case.
While she has all the best acne treatments at her disposal (and says she did use these), the 20-year-old model revealed on her website it was actually something much closer to home that really helped get her through.
And itโs so simple you can do it yourself, from ingredients you probably already have in the kitchen.
Kendall combines egg whites and lemon juice into a face mask โ the egg whites for their astringent properties to help tighten the pores, and the lemon juice for the exfoliation.
Lemon juice however can be quite harsh so make sure you do a spot test before you go slathering it all over your face.
If a full mask isnโt your thing, Kendall also shares her DIY spot treatment, made up of ยฝ teaspoon of lemon juice, ยฝ teaspoon of baking soda and 1 teaspoon of honey.
Mix it all together and apply overnight. Too easy.

The mother and father of a 24-year-old woman have been sentenced to jail for horrific ongoing cases of sexual and psychological abuse against their daughter.
The Sydney Morning Herald reports that the father was sentenced to a maximum of 48 years in jail after being found guilty of 73 offences, and her mother was sentenced to a maximum of 16 years for 13 offences.
The girlโs father raped and tortured her, with many incidents occurring in an old chicken shed in the familyโs rural property, where he would also lock her up. The first rape occurred in her bedroom when she was just five years old and her mum was in the hospital after giving birth. The last occurred when she was 19.
Among the atrocities that the daughter was exposed to were that she was forced to eat her own vomit and swallow hot chillies, and her father would use scissors, spanners, nails and other tools to abuse her. She had etched the words โtrappedโ, โdadโ and โmum is comingโ with a nail into the frame of the shed where she was locked.
Her mother suggested ways in which she could help sexually please her father, once telling her, โIt makes it better if you make noises, it would make it better for you and Dad.โ
The Daily Telegraphreport that the parents are unable to be named, as it would make the daughter easily identifiable. The daughter is a promising athlete, and the mother and father often threatened abuse if she did not perform well at sporting events.
Though the daughter had kept the abuse secret throughout her life, after spending some time in a mental hospital she gave a statement to police, who issued the father an AVO. A week before the AVO was to be heard in court, the parents found her and threatened her with โthe shedโ, however she managed to escape.
At the sentencing, Judge Huggettโ said that the parents had not shown a hint of remorse for their actions. She also said that their crimes were โdepravity of an almost unimaginable magnitudeโ.
The daughter read a statement to the courtroom at a sentencing hearing earlier this year.
โMy father inflicted evil,โ she said. โHe abused me in such ways that I thought I was going to die. My mother didnโt stop him and did not protect me. My childhood was lost and I can never get it back.
โMy focus, my goal throughout my childhood was to survive and to satisfy [my fatherโs] needs so that he wasnโt angry.
โIf that meant [competing at sport] or pleasing him in sexual ways, that is what it meant.
โNow, on this day and every day for the rest of my life, I have to find some way to move on from his abuse.โ

The photographer who took the iconic National Geographic cover shot of a then 12-year-old, green-eyed Afghan refugee in 1985 has vowed to do โanything possibleโ to help her after it was revealed that she was arrested in Pakistan.
The BBC reports that Sharbat Gula, was arrested in Pakistan for holding fake identiy papers and is facing up to 14 years in jail.
After hearing of her arrest, photographer Steve McCurry took to Instagram, saying โwe are doing everything we can to get the factsโ.

โI object to this action by the authorities in the strongest possible terms. She has suffered throughout her entire life.โ
An official of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), a department that deals with forgery cases, confirmed the arrest.
โOur team together with police raided her house and recovered both Pakistani and Afghan IDs,โ said FIA director Imran Shahid according to The Sydney Morning Herald.

Further details have emerged about the moment mother-of-two Kate Goodchild died on the Thunder River Rapid ride along with three others on Tuesday.
Husband, David Goodchild, who had been waiting outside the ride with the coupleโs eight-month-old daughter, reportedly managed to reach his wife, diving into the water to try and rescue her.
Unable to do anything to anything to save her, she died in his arms.
โMy son managed to reach his partner โฆ who died in his arms while their 12-year-old daughter looked on screaming in the background,โ Mr Goodchildโs mother, Gillian Turner told media in a statement.
โMy son and Kate were childhood sweethearts and she will be missed incredibly.
โKate is irreplaceable, she is not only going to be missed by my son and grand-daughters but by a lot of people.โ
Ms Turner said the families involved were โdevastated and inconsolableโ.
Ebony Goodchild, the coupleโs 12-year-old daughter who miraculously survived the horror accident is said to be heartbroken and blaming herself for her motherโs death.
A family friend says she is struggling to cope and is โjust terribleโ after convincing her mother to go on the ride with her.
โThis is something that will be with her for life โ it will take a long time for her to be okay,โ she tells News.com.au.

Earlier this week it was revealed that this yearโs Bachelorette Georgia Loveโs mother had been admitted to palliative care after suffering from an aggressive form of pancreatic cancer.
As the finale episode approached it remained unclear whether Love would fulfill media commitments.
Airing last night, the finale saw the 28-year-old journalist choose Melbourneโs Lee Elliot, 35, as the winner and this morning the couple appeared on KIIS FMโs Kyle And Jackie O show to discuss their budding new relationship and address concern over her mumโs condition.
โWeโre all just being as strong and positive as we can be in this situation,โ she explained.
โSo the only thing Iโm really thankful for is that Iโve finally got Lee to be by my side through all of this because itโs been extremely difficult going through all this.
โJust having him on the other end of the phone,โ she sighed.
โWeโve got a lot of difficult times ahead,โ the brunette beauty added.
Georgia later took to Facebook to share the coupleโs first selfie, and a bitter-sweet message about their first day as an official couple.
โWhat Iโd originally thought Iโd be posting today was a gushy message all about love, butterflies, fireworks and just how happy Lee makes me every day and how lucky I feel to have found the love of my life through this crazy experience,โ she wrote.
โAnd while all of this couldnโt be more true, itโs not the most important thing to say right now. What should be one of the most exciting weeks of my life has instead turned into one of the hardest with my family going through something no one ever wants to face.
โBut a small solace I can find in this extremely difficult time is that I have this amazing man by my side and for that I feel so lucky. Heโs been so incredibly supportive and loving and managed to make me smile and laugh every day despite everything else.
Channel Ten confirmed the news earlier this week with a statement just days before the show was set to wrap up.
โGeorgia and her family are going through a very difficult time with serious family health issues,โ Network Ten told The Daily Telegraph in a statement.
โThey are focusing on supporting each other during this hard time and we kindly ask you to respect their privacy.โ
Love spoke openly of her mumโs battle throughout the show, admitting it was part of the reason she decided to do the show at all.
โMum has been such a great role model, she has always been there for us and that is a real inspiration to me and that is the kind of mum I want to be,โ Love said of her mother in the first episode.
โIโm doing this because I have realised that family and love is what is important at the end of the day. It really scares me that my mum has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. This came out of nowhere, not only for her but for all of us. Over night finding out that my mum was sick totally changed my perspective on life.โ

Jessica Kumala Wongso, a former design student from Sydney has beens sentenced to 20 years in prison for the murder of her best friend, Wayan Mirna Salihin, by slipping cyanide into her coffee.
The 28-year-old was found guilty of lacing her best friendโs coffee with cyanide in a Jakarta cafรฉ on January 6 this year.
โI donโt accept this decision,โ Wongso told the Jakarta Court on Thursday according to SMH.
โItโs not fair and very one-sided. More than this, I leave it all to the lawyers.โ
The case has gripped Indonesia, dubbed the โtrial of the centuryโ with the media circus surrounding it reaching unprecedented levels, with the verdict broadcast live on television and more than 500 police called in for security at the court.
Wongso escaped the death penalty with the help of the Australian government, who provided evidence from Australia about the two womenโs time in the court and Wongsoโs criminal record.
Although the court did state previously that it was not bound by any such guarantee.
Indonesian prosecutors argued that Wongso carried out her plan to kill โmeticulouslyโ, noting that Wongso intended to kill her fellow design student after Salihin advised her to break up with her boyfriend as he was using drugs.
Police said she masked the coffee from CCTV footage by placing bags on the table so she couldnโt be seen dropping the poison into the victims coffee, according to The Guardian.
Salihin collapsed soon after drinking the coffee and died in hospital.
Prosecutor Melanie Wuwung told the court in her closing statement โthe defendantโs act was especially cruel as it was committed against her best friend.โ
โThe cyanide used to end the victims life did not kill her directly, but instead tortured her until death.โ

Dreamworld: Ardent chairman has defended CEO Deborah Thomas's $600,000+ bonus after Dreamworld deaths. #7Newshttps://t.co/Cniz3K23Pn
The announcement came just hours after Deborah Thomas, the CEO of Ardent Leisure, which owns Dreamworld, fronted an annual general meeting.
โIt is under extremely sad circumstances that we gather here in Sydney for the AGM two days after the tragic deaths of four people at Dreamworld,โ Ardent Leisure chief executive Deb Thomas said.
โI would like to express our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the people killed in this tragedy. Our thoughts are with them and particularly with their children.
โOur immediate concerns remain with the families of the victims and how we can assist them in this difficult time. We are also focused on our affected visitors and staff.
โThere is very little that I can say today except that we are working closely with authorities to examine exactly how this happened.โ
Just hours before the accident, shareholders approved a reported $860,000 bonus for Thomas.
When asked whether remuneration resolutions should be deferred in light of recent events, outgoing chairman Neil Balnaves said it was โnigh impossibleโ and that the โcompany has to be runโ.
โThe coronial inquiry, the workplace health and safety inquiry under the Queensland government and our own internal inquiries are going to take months.
โIt would just be absolutely impossible to not run the company without the required resolutions to do so under company law, we canโt avoid that.โ
โI must admit it hasnโt been the most urgent priority as dealing with the death of four people which has occupied most of our time,โ he said. โThere will be a continuing effect I expect for the rest of the financial year.โ
โThis is a tragedy of a proportion never seen in this business before,โ he said. โWeโve had 35 million people through the gate and weโve never had a tragedy like this. The size and the impact of this is just awful.โ
A comment on Dreamworldโs Facebook page suggesting that the theme park be shut on October 25 every year in memory of the four people who died has received 1.8k likes.

Forget contouring, because thereโs a new make-up trend thatโs breaking the internet and itโs set to blow all the otherโs out of the park. Well for another week or so anywayโฆ
All over our Instagram feeds weโve been seeing one very big trend โ floating heads. Yep talented make-up artists are taking their skills to the extreme with this optical illusion look just in time for Halloween.
While not your typical everyday beauty trend (well depending on your style โ no judgements from us), weโre guessing this one will be of particular interest to those of you heading out to a Halloween party this weekend. You might just need to stick to black or white walls for this to work thoughโฆ

Round one and itโs Scarlett Johansson vs. Zelda Fitzgerald!
The two Hollywood A-listers will be fighting it out in separate biopics, both playing Zelda Fitzgerald, the wife of author F.Scott Fitzgerald, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The Jazz Age iconic, dubbed as the first American flapper, was a successful author in her own right, before she tragically died in a hospital fire nearly 70 years ago.
Both films will follow Zeldaโs life, focusing on her career and struggle with schizophrenia.
Jenniferโs biopic boasts Ron Howard who is looking to direct the film, titled Zelda. Scarlettโs project, titled the Beautiful and the Damned, will be a play on the F. Scott Fitzgerald classic of the same name, which was loosely based on his marriage.
The story of Zelda is obviously hot property in Hollywood right now, with Amazon releasing itโs own series, Z: The Beginning of Everything, starring Christina Ricci.
Release dates for the films are yet to be released.

The CEO of Ardent Leisure, the company which owns Dreamworld, has broken her silence at their Annual General Meeting this morning.
Deborah Thomas fronted the meeting following the tragic accident at the Gold Coast theme park on Tuesday afternoon that killed four people.
Dreamworld: Ardent chairman has defended CEO Deborah Thomas's $600,000+ bonus after Dreamworld deaths. #7Newshttps://t.co/Cniz3K23Pn

A US amusement park has temporarily shut its river rapids ride after the devastating tragedy at Dreamworld amid fears of a similar accident.
The deaths of four people at Dreamworldโs Thunder River Rapids ride in the Gold Coast has sent shockwaves around the world, and yesterday the Busch Gardens theme park in Florida announced it would shut a similar ride โout of an abundance of cautionโ.
โWe have made the decision to close our Congo River Rapids ride while we work with other park operators and ride manufacturers to understand what happened in Australia,โ Busch Gardens spokeswoman Karen Varga-Sinka told FOX 13.
The four people who were killed at Dreamworld were Kate Goodchild, 32, her brother Luke Dorsett, his partner Roozi Araghi and 42-year-old Cindy Low.
Tragically, the accident was witnessed by the two womenโs children.
News.com.au reports that two of the victims were drowned, and two others were crushed in the rideโs machinery when their raft collided with a stationery raft.
The decision by the US theme park comes as Dreamworld announces that it will reopen this Friday for a memorial day, with entry proceeds to Australian Red Cross, who have been working directly with the affected families.
According to The Brisbane Times, Dreamworld has released a statement, saying โThe Thunder River Rapids ride had successfully completed its annual mechanical and structural safety engineering inspection on 29 September 2016.โ

News.com.au spoke to Armstrong, who revealed that he and his colleagues witnessed a similar situation, where the raft flipped.
โI was on โstart-upโ duties for the ride, which involved walking the river bed before the pump started, check the raft inflation pressure and ensuring all rafts were untied,โ he said.
โI was unaware this particular morning that one raft had two mooring lines attached by the overnight maintenance crew, the second rope being hidden on the far side of the raft and submerged.
โWhen the ride started, this raft stuck and caused three other rafts to flip on the conveyor and four more to โmountโ the flipped rafts.
โItโs lucky there was no one on board because if there had been, their body parts would have been pushed under the water โฆ and at that part, the waterโs deep.
โLuckily we had not allowed guests in to ride yet but those of us present at the time all agreed that this was a potentially fatal flaw.โ
Because of this incident, safety procedures were improved after a thorough investigation. However, Jon Armstrong believes that there should have been an automatic shutdown if the raft didnโt move up the conveyor belt.
He added, โI doubt Iโd go on that ride until they changed the format. It needs a redesign.โ
The Daily Telegraph reports that the group involved in the tragedy were just five seconds from safety as the ride was coming to an end before the craft flipped, drowning two of the adults, crushing the other two on a conveyor belt, but somehow miraculously throwing the two children to safety.
Police worked through the night, investigating the incident, looking for clues which helped them understand why the ride malfunctioned and said during a press conference that it was a โmiracleโ the children survived.

Bella Hadid is no stranger to a risquรฉ look, and she always steps out with confidence!
She wore a sheer, lingerie-inspired Dior look to Dior Beautyโs celebration for Peter Philipsโ The Art Of Colour book. The dress featured signature underwear with the Dior logo, as debuted in their spring 2017 runway collection.
She wore a clip-on fringe for the occasion with her hair pulled up in a messy bun, and she accessorised the look with a shimmering mini-Dior bag.
Bella Hadid joined fellow models Jasmine Sanders, Daphne Groeneveld and Hailey Baldwin at the event.

With summer just around the corner, itโs time to trade your black jeans for something a little lighter.
Enter influencer Brooke Testoni, whose chic outfits have us convinced that wide-legged denim and white cropped pants are just the ticket.
Little wonder, given that Testoni is decked out in Tommy Hilfigerโs cool collaboration with It girl Gigi Hadid, Tommy X Gigi. The collection, which debuted at New York Fashion Week with a carnival-themed spectacle attended by Taylor Swift, mixes Hilfigerโs all-American aesthetic with Hadidโs street-wise style.
The result? Of-the-moment pieces that are both playful and practical. Think printed sweatshirts, preppy knits and Hadidโs go-to jacket, the bomber. Fresh takes on nautical tie it all together with anchor motifs, military-inspired accents and wear-anywhere navy and white stripes.
โI love that each piece is a wearable staple, has boyish charm and still embodies the classic look Tommy is known for,โ says Testoni. โI only had to be shown the denim, leather pants and military jacket to be sold on the collection!โ
The collection is available at David Jones online, Melbourne Central and Chadstone stores. But it likely wonโt last for long- we suggest getting in fast!

A New Zealand man has revealed that he and his partner narrowly avoided the disaster because they had let the group go in front of them in line.
The 25-year-old man told Newshub that they had let the group pass as they were waiting for his partnerโs mother to join them.
The man was horrified by the events, talking about what it was like to witness what happened.
โWe saw things we wished we hadnโt,โ he said.
He added that he was โcounting his lucky starsโ, and that his mum has said she will never go to a theme park again after what happened.
As the victims of yesterdayโs tragic accident at Dreamworld on the Gold Coast have been named, the families and witnesses have also spoken out about the horror that unfolded.
Kate Goodchild, 32, her brother Luke Dorsett, his partner Roozi Araghi and a 42-year-old woman has been named as mother of two Cindy Low by NZ media.
Kim Dorsett, whose two children, Kate Goodchild and her brother Luke Dorsett were both killed on the ride, says her granddaughter, who is believe to have been on the ride but was thrown to safety, was left screaming and calling out for her mother who was trapped.
โWe tried to comfort her, but she was so emotional it was hard.โ
Another witness, Lia Capes added: โWe saw [a] little girl and we believe it was her mum because it was just her and her little sister that was an infant.โ
โI was speaking to one of the guys and he said it was the raft or the boat thing in front of him, the whole thing flipped and everyone was screaming.โ
A male witness also told the publication, โthere were kids on board screaming while their mum was trapped underโ.
Ms Dorsett says her family are โjust devastated, absolutely devastated.โ
โI have three children and have lost two of them today โ my whole family has been wiped out.
โI have two granddaughters โ an eight-month-old and a 12-year-old โ and it truly breaks my heart to know that my eight-month-old is never going to get to know her mum.โ
Ms Goodchildโs husband had not gone on the ride to look after the coupleโs eight-month-old daughter.
The Daily Telegraph reports that the group were just five seconds from safety as the ride was coming to an end before the craft flipped, drowning two of the adults, crushing the other two on a conveyor belt, but somehow miraculously throwing the two children to safety.
Cindy Low was sitting next to her 10-year-old, Kieran, on the ride as her husband and 6-year-old daughter waited for them.
Kieran was one of the two children who miraculously survived the incident, and NZ Herald reports he was the last person to see his mother alive.
Police worked through the night, investigating the incident, looking for clues which will help them understand why the ride malfunctioned and said during a press conference this morning it was a โmiracleโ the children survived.
โI have seen CCTV footage. It seems from what Iโve seen itโs almost a miracle anyone came out of it,โ said Queensland Police Service Assistant Commissioner Brian Codd.
โIf weโre going to be thankful for anything, Iโm thankful for that.โ
โThey (the children) were thrown at one part from the ride and then managed to extricate themselves.โ
Dreamworld have closed until further notice, with the CEO Craig Davidson saying they are โdeeply shocked and saddenedโ by the tragedy and โour hearts and thoughts go to the families involved and their loved onesโ.

Heads up: itโs 2016. We wanted to remind you because sometimes it can feel awfully like itโs 1816.
Case in point: research just out about the media.
A new study has examined the 13,000 news articles published in Australian media between August 2015 and July 2016, according to The Conversation. (The study looked at articles in The Age, The Australian, The Adelaide Advertiser, The Canberra Times, The Courier Mail, The Sydney Morning Herald, The Daily Telegraph, The West Australian, The Northern Territory News and The Hobart Mercury.)
It found that the male pronoun โheโ was the 16th most common word, overall.
Depressingly, the word โsheโ was much less common โ just 66th on the list of common words. Overall, the word โheโ was used 3.4 times more often than the word โsheโ, suggesting that we womenโs voices are not being heard (or at least published) as much as those of men.
And it gets worse.
The research, by Lancaster Universityโs Corpus Approaches to Social Science Research Centre, also looked at the most common names used in the media. The number one most common name quoted in Australian media was Johnโฆ. followed by David, Peter, and Michael.
In fact, the 20 most common names found in the 13,000 articles were all men. The name โJulieโ was the most commonly mentioned womanโs name โ and it came 21st.

The German supermodel certainly goes above and beyond for her annual spooky soiree, but thereโs something to be said for the actorโs general disdain for the traditionโฆ while dressed as a booze-swilling nun
Billy Jean King and Bobby Riggs, David and Goliath, Batman and Supermanโฆ History โ and popular culture โ is littered with larger than life contests, the blockbuster battles to decide who, ultimately, will reign supreme in the world of sport, the Valley of Elah and the twin comic book cities of Metropolis and Gotham.
But is this the biggest battle of them all? A popular culture clash that goes to the heart of what it means to be American?
Look, we certainly think so.
It comes down to thus: whose Halloween costumes are better โ German supermodel Heidi Klum, or 74-year-old cinematic legend and archetype of modern masculinity Harrison Ford?
Klum, who hosts an annual spooky soiree in New York (she used to co-host with her ex-husband Seal), certainly goes above and beyond when it comes to costuming. Points must be awarded for dedication, with Klum giving over her famous face and physique for altering prosthetics (Jessica Rabbit, 2015), ageing makeup and a gray wig (2013) or a full body catsuit (2007).
But thereโs something to be said for Harrisonโs general disdain for life, the universe and the tradition of Halloweenโฆ all while dressed in the most outrageous dad-humour costumes seen this side of 50th birthdays at the local RSL.
Ford, who adheres to Halloween with his wife Calista Flockhart and their young son in their Los Angeles neighbourhood, has been seen in a booze-swilling, smoking nun outfit, as a peapod complete with green face paint, an an ageing rockstar and his groupie, as a geeky chess club couple and as a giant hot-dog.
Itโs a close contest, thatโs for sure. But we think we might be in love with Ford (and his costumes). And weโre pretty sure he knows.

A 48-year-old Missouri woman has been charged in the death of a woman whose body was found nearly 30 years ago in Kansas City.
Carolyn J. Heckert has been charged with first-degree murder in the December 29, 1989 death of Sarah DeLeon confirmed Wyandotte County District Attorney Jerome Gorman in a press release.
DeLeon was found stabbed to death and suffered head wounds when she was found alongside railroad tracks 27 years ago.
Jeff Cheek, a Kansas City cop who was among the first to arrive on the crime scene and has continued working on the case through the years described it as โpure evilโ.
โIt just looked like pure evil met pure innocence,โ he said. โThis was just a little girl fresh out of high school.
โIt just made absolute zero sense and the manner, the fashion [of DeLeonโs death], it just looked like pure evilness.โ
Heckert was arrested this week after new DNA collection and testing technology prompted a review into the case in 2014, reports ABC.
News.com.au reports that Heckert, then known as Carolyn Coon, and DeLeon were dating the same man at the time of her murder.
The 48-year-old real estate agent and mother of two is currently being held on $1 million bail and is awaiting extradition to Kansas.
Over the years DeLeonโs death has often been linked to another unsolved murder, after 26-year-old Diana Marie Ault was shot to death in her Missouri home while her 4-year-old son and 6-month-old daughter were home.
According to the Daily Mail, Ault was the wife of the man Heckert was having an affair with.
So much were the cases linked that the families of the two women were in contact and had even held joint memorial services.
Kansas City police have not commented on a link between Heckert and Aultโs death, but they have previously considered a connection between the cases.
In May, Det. Scott Howard said that the suspect in the DeLeon case, who was at that point still unnamed, โand an accomplice have been involved in other incidents involving the harassment and intimidation of romantic rivals.โ
They also added that they were seeking further information about a 1987 abduction that may also be related.
DeLeonโs mother Gail Elieson told ABC she was โquite pleasedโ with the announcement of charges in the case.
โIt just took a long time to get to this point, It will be 27 years in December.โ
โShe had no enemies. Everybody loved her,โ Elieson added. โShe did not live a high-risk lifestyle.โ

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds recently returned to their โspecial placeโ to celebrate Ryan Reynoldsโ 40th birthday.
The couple visited Japanese hot spot O Ya in new York City for the milestone celebration โ which happens to be the same place where the pair fell in love.
โ@_o_ya_ We fell in love at your restaurant in Boston. We stay in love at your restaurant in NY. Thank you for the BEST food and memories! You are our FAVORITE,โ Blake wrote alongside a seriously sweet snap of the pair looking all sorts of loved up.
โAnother happy birthday with @vancityreynolds . Hey, Reynolds, I like you a whole lot. Just sayinโ.โ

As well as balloons and streamers for the celebration, eagle-eyed fans also pointed out that the star was holding a photo of the couple kissing at his 35th birthday party โ as well as other photos from their relationship scattered around the room. Seriously.
Blakeโs BFF Taylor Swift commented on the post and basically summed us all up, โThanks guys now Iโm drowning in tears of joy,โ she wrote. Yep us too.
But Ryan recently responded with his own cute Insta post that he took with Blake!
He captioned the image, โBest. Birthday. Everrrrr. Courtesy of my wife, buddy, and international spy, @blakelively. With huge thanks to my favorite restaurant in NYC, @_o_ya_ โ and a special shout out to our children for not ruining everything like they planned.โ
Could this have been the location for their infamous awkward double date โ where they fell in love despite being there with other people?
โWe went on a double date. She was on a date with another guy, and I was on a date with another girl โ and that was, like, the most awkward date for the respective parties because we were just like fireworks coming across,โ he told SiriusXM in February. โI think the best way to have a relationship is to start as friends.โ
Not there for the celebration however were the coupleโs two children, 22-month-old daughter James, and three-week-old baby number two โ who we are yet to know by name or gender as yet โ although Ryan did drop a major hint that itโs a girl just the other dayโฆ

Actress Kate Beckinsale and her husband of 12 years, Len Wiseman, have made their split official after the director officially filed divorce papers citing irreconcilable differences.
The couple separated in November 2015, but are believed to have secretly split months earlier.
โThe first time we met each other was when we were filming Underworld, she told Parade Magazine. โAnd then we worked together again after weโd been married a short while, and now weโve been married seven years, so Iโve had quite a few different experiences along the way.โ
Kate was previously with actor Michael Sheen from 1995 to 2003 with whom she shares 17-year-old daughter Lily.

Relationship break-ups do strange things to the best of us. Some of us howl down the phone to a girlfriend for an hour. Others drop 20kg, or pack on 10. If youโre Taylor Swift, you share every grisly detail in song. Yet in an age where social media is one of our primary communication sources with friends, family and everyone else, we still condemn the Facebook over-sharer for a post-breakup rant.
Last night, Cassandra Thorburn, 44, the estranged wife of Karl Stefanovic, 42, let loose on Facebook about the demise of her marriage. Her husbandโs program, The Today Show, had just released its ratings figures, beating rival Sunrise.
โApparently Today Show finally won a year,โ Thorburn shared with her Facebook friends. โThis took a huge toll on my family and I, and Iโm congratulating myself today for all the effort that went into making that happen.โ
(Credit: Getty)
Thorburn added that she felt she deserved some of the credit for the showโs historic win. โThe suggestions, the story ideas, the constant counselling of questions for years,โ she added. โIโm giving myself a pat on the back tonight, as I know many people will also know how much effort I put into it.โ
And, in the spirit of breakup confessions through the ages, she finished by revealing that a good bottle of plonk was also in the picture.
โFound a lovely tipple to cheers myself,โ she wrote. โThanks for the red Sharon Finnigan SF Celebrity Managementโ โ a sly shout-out to Karlโs agent.
The response to Thorburnโs post has been catty and condemning. โShe shouldnโt air her dirty laundry,โ said one commenter. โWhy donโt they just sort it out between themselves?โ huffed another. โThis just comes across as bitter,โ said another. The feeling is that people going through something as personal as a divorce or separation should stay stoic, dignified and silent. Anything else embarrasses the writer and the rest of us.
But perhaps weโd do better to see the pain behind the impulse. Thorburnโs words show sheโs clearly wounded from the demise of her 21-year marriage to the father of her three children, Jackson 16, Ava, 11 and River, 10. Sheโs in the unenviable position of being the phantom โreal personโ in a celebrity match-up; the invisible support behind the scenes, whose contribution to her husbandโs career has rarely been acknowledged publicly, and perhaps not privately either.
โThorburnโs words show sheโs clearly wounded from the demise of her marriageโ
Alexandra Carlton
The first many of us heard of her was at the Logies in 2011, when Karl announced that his wife, who quit her job at the ABC to look after the pairโs children, โ has been a great influence on my life,โ before adding, to great derision that she has the โbest arse I have ever seen.โ
Is it any wonder that the woman attached to that great arse wants the world to see her as something more?
So Thorburn did what so many of us have done in a vulnerable moment; threw back a couple of glasses of red, overanalysed and dissected her hurt and jumped on a keyboard.
That single moment of impassioned release doesnโt make her undignified. It shouldnโt make her an object of pity. It doesnโt deserve our mockery.
It makes Cassandra Thorburn deeply human. And we hope her future looks brighter from here.

Chances are that when youโre planning your Spring Races outfit, your headwear and dress are probably at the top of your shopping list.
But thereโs another piece to consider โ and itโs one that could make all the difference to your Races look: shapewear.
Yes, if your dress is cinched-in, form-fitting, strapless or figure-hugging then strategic shapewear could be the perfect finishing touch to your look.
And if the very word โshapewearโ conjures up visions of nanna knickers and Bridget Jones-style underwear, then the good news is the shapewear has had a seriously sexy makeover.
Inspired by Art Deco designs, Nancy Ganzโ โSheer Decadenceโ collection mixes function and fashion. Itโs also the perfect way to create a streamlined silhouette this racing season.
โThe races calls for a fun, attention-grabbing dress, but itโs important to feel confident and comfortable all day longโ, says StyledBy marie claire content editor Brittany Henderson. โThe fact that this line combines the aesthetics of lingerie and the support of shapewear is a bonus!โ
Weโve chosen three on-trend spring racing dresses โ and the shapewear to wear underneath them.

Today news broke that British pop star Pete Burns had died in London, aged 57, of a heart attack.
If you were a kid in the Eighties, you will remember Burns and the band he fronted, Dead or Alive. Their breakthrough hit was the 1985 single You Spin Me Right Round (Like A Record Baby). Factoid: it was the first chart-topper produced by Stock Aitken Waterman.
Its tinny, synth-heavy sound and catchy hook felt like a revelation at the time โ remember, this was pre-Kylie, pre-Rick Astley. And Burns, with his crimped brown locks and lipstick, one eye covered with a pirate patch, looked the part. He was New Romantic fantastic. The perfect poster boy.
(Credit: Getty)
Peter Burns was born near Liverpool in 1959, the only child of an exotically named German immigrant, Evelina Maria Bettina Quittner von Hudec, and her British soldier husband, Frank.
A high school drop out, he was fascinated by fashion and identity from an early age. He was kicked out school at 14 for dyeing his hair, and wearing makeup and earrings. He formed his first band, Mystery Girls, in the late Seventies, and founded Dead or Alive in 1980.
By that point, heโd taken to the eye patch as a way to detract from a dodgy nose job, and those luscious locks were the work of his hairdresser/fashion stylist wife, Lynne Corlett. They were married for 26 years, before Burns married his second life-partner Michael Simpson.
Around the same time, 2007, Burns became a contestant on Celebrity Big Brother (UK), where he โdid everything in heelsโ and showed the world just how much fun it was to dress in what he called โdragโ. But he rejected labels. In an interview that year with theGuardian UK, he said simply: โI have never had a reason to separate gender. Iโve had two very powerful people in my life, my ex-wife Lynne, and my husband Michael, and thatโs it.โ
โEveryoneโs in drag of some sorts,โ he continued. โIโm not trying to be a girl by putting on a dress โ gender is separated by fabric. I was brought up with an incredible amount of freedom and creativity. Society has put certain constraints on things.โ Ten years later, everyone from Lady Gaga to Young Thug, is saying similar things.
Burnsโ attitude to cosmetic surgery was also ahead of its time, although it caused him as much pain as pleasure.
(Credit: Getty)
By his own estimation, Burns undertook more than 300 cosmetic procedures, many in the attempt to fix a harrowing series of botched jobs, for which he sued his Harley Street surgeon. Dr Maurizio Vielโs mistakes, said Burns, left him looking in the late-noughties like โone of the worst science fiction horror movies youโd ever seeโ โ and nearly cost him his life.
And yet Burns continued to alter his appearance surgically as well as with makeup and costume. โI see it as an art form,โ he said in a TV interview in 2010. โI see myself as my own clay, and I was remodelling it.โ
Asked where the desire to change his appearance came from, he said: โSince my early childhood when I was getting bottles of Dylon shoe dye and pouring it over my head to make my hair green.โ
For Burns, messing with his face was perhaps simply an extension of the performance he called life, the ultimate expression of his outward fabulousness. Is it possible that he wasnโt made miserable by it at all โ that it is only us on the outside, who did not know him, who need him to be have been tortured within in order to to validate our own discomfort? Maybe he just wanted to be ready for his close-up, and in doing so was anticipating a wider trend for fake beauty that weโre only now, as a society, beginning to come to grips with?
Anything is possible.
You might say itโs quite a leap from hair dye to changing the shape of your jaw and contouring your cheeks. To plumping up your lips to grotesque proportions with fillers, and turning yourself into a cartoon in the name of perfect beauty. You might say, youโd have to be mad.
Then again, you might say that great leap is rapidly shrinking to a baby step.
Teenagers donโt stick posters on their bedroom walls these days โ they have Instagram for that. And itโs full of digitally altered pictures of surgically created Kardashians.
Burns told The Guardian that as a kid he didnโt have posters. โI didnโt have any icons either,โ he said. He didnโt need them โ he was his own fantasy.

As you can see, Cherโs report card reads โCher Hamiltonโ โ er, what? Cherโs last name is Horowitz!
If you investigate further into it, youโll see that the letter is also addressed to โMelvin Hamiltonโ, instead of her fatherโs real name โ โMel Horowitzโ.
Thatโs gotta be too big of an error to make twice in the movie, so the theory goes that โHamiltonโ was originally going to be Cherโs family name, and the film-makers forgot to update the props.

Letโs talk about sex. Most of us are having/have had/want to have it, and while some of us are at the point in our lives where if it results in a baby then high-five, but for many of us, weโre still just in it for the fun of it.
So thatโs where contraception comes in.
There are so many options these days outside of just condoms and the pill, and while they remain up there as some of the most common, a study carried out by the United Nations, actually found sterilisation as the most popular.
According to the study, sterilization was used by 19 per cent of married or in-union women worldwide.
Following that, 14 per cent of women use an IUD, 9 per cent use the pill, 8 per cent male condoms, 6 per cent rely on rhythm and withdrawal and 5 per cent use injectables.
According to Better Health Victoria, female sterilization is a permanent form of contraception where the womanโs fallopian tubes are either clipped (tubal ligation) or blocked (tubal occlusion).
The procedure does not however protect against sexually transmitted diseases.
While this is all well and good for those of us who donโt want kids or have already had them and know they donโt want any more, for those of us who still want to keep our options open โ and protect against those peksy STDs โ itโs back to the drawing board.
Thankfully however, there have been some major developments in the male contraceptive pill that could make it an absolute game changer.
While itโs still early days, Researchers at Wolverhampton University believe they have developed a compound which enables them to stop sperm from swimming.
If a sperm cell canโt swim, it canโt fertilise an egg. Simple.
The other major breakthrough is that unlike the female pill, the male pill would potentially take only minutes to activate, meaning it could be taken right before itโs needed. Because letโs face it, the thought of relying on a man to take the pill at the same time every day is a little worrying, considering itโs hard enough to rely on ourselves to do it.
โThe results are startlingโand almost instant,โ lead researcher Professor John Howl told the Daily Mail.
โWhen you take healthy sperm and add our compound, within a few minutes the sperm basically cannot move.โ
Prof Howl added that it was โtoo early to sayโ if the end result would be a pill, a nasal spray or a sub-skin implant, but that theyโre all possibilities.
โIt would also help men who want to have control over their own fertility.โ
As well as the male contraceptive pill, a male โjabโ is in the works, with researchers saying it could be just as effective as the female one.
A study of 350 men were given injections of hormones that were shown to dramatically lower their sperm count by โswitching offโ the male reproductive system.
Similar to the female jab, the drugs did cause some unpleasant side-effects including depression, acne and increased libido, which resulted in the study been placed on hold after a number of participants dropped out, reports The Guardian.
The scientists are now looking at ways to reduce the side effects.
โThe results provide us with confidence that this can be done,โ said Richard Anderson, a professor of clinical reproductive science and author of the study.

The great Australian dream of owning your own home is over as soon, more than 50 per cent of us will be renting. Alexandra Carlton looks at how our laws need to change to reflect this reality.
Friendsโ jaws dropped when HR manager Natasha Blackman and her husband, Alisdair, a business owner, threw a housewarming dinner at the five-bedroom Federation brick home theyโd recently moved into on Sydneyโs prestigious upper north shore. As their friends surveyed their gorgeous new pad they couldnโt believe it. โYouโre barely going to have to do a thing to this place โ itโs absolutely liveable as is,โ said one guest enviously. Natasha suppressed a grin. โDo anything to it? Oh, you donโt think we bought this house,โ she replied. โNo, weโre renting.โ
If this was a cheesy โ90s sitcom, a needle would scratch across a record and deafening silence would follow.
Except in the case of students or expat executives, Australians tend to see renting in the same way as they think of dating the bad boy guitarist from their uniโs rock band โ a character building rite of passage, something you grow out of once you become a proper adult. Itโs an attitude that is overdue for a dramatic rethink. Because in the very near future, for the first time in our history, more than 50 per cent of Australians will rent rather than own their own home.
If the trend continues it will lead to a deep societal shift, says social researcher and futurist Mark McCrindle. โIt will change us profoundly โ we will move more, have less of a sense of community and save less money,โ he says. โIf it turns out weโre renting for life rather than just buying later, the great Aussie dream could be over.โ
Renting has traditionally been the province of the peripatetic and those on the lower end of the socio-economic scale, however, todayโs significant shift is being driven by a new generation of young professionals who are choosing to lease over buying, frequently because of lifestyle considerations.
Theyโll be cashed-up but asset poor, less encumbered by mortgages and interest rates, but less likely to know their neighbours. Itโs a way of life that will fit with the transience of the rest of our lives โ more short-term jobs, more frequent relationships and less security.
GOOD NEWS FOR RENTERS
Rents have flattened across many capital cities in the past 12 months and are showing a downward trend thanks to a glut in construction.
In the near future, the property marketโs winners will be less about who can slam down the winning bid at an auction to whoever sprints to the estate agent fastest with their forms filled in after a viewing.
Natasha and Alisdair, both 35, and their two kids, Felix, five, and Allegra, two, are anything but poor uni students, and are much more emblematic of the new renters โ affluent professionals determined to spend their money on the finer things in life, rather than sinking it into the huge mortgage payments.
The family has since left that upper north shore home that so impressed their guests and relocated to another spacious home with a pool on Sydneyโs equally prized lower north shore.
โItโs about where you put your value,โ Natasha says. โAlisdair and I are shopping addicts. We love big trips overseas with the kids plus we get to live in an area we love with great schools. Houses around here sell for up to $2.5 million. Just because we didnโt buy at the right time doesnโt mean we shouldnโt be able to live here and enjoy life.โ
30% of Australians rent; 42% have a mortgage; 28% own their house outright. The average renter is aged 37; the average homeowner is 52.
Their friends, on the other hand, donโt have that flexibility. โPeople say that renting is dead money and ask us why we havenโt managed to save a deposit when weโre both on good salaries,โ she says. They also ask the inevitable question: โHow will you live when youโre 65?โ But Natasha waves them away. โNo-one has a crystal ball,โ she says. โMaybe weโll be living overseas. Perhaps our friends whoโve bought will find the marketโs crashed and theyโll be even worse off than us. Maybe we will buy down the track. We choose to live in the here and now.โ
The thinly disguised disdain faced by renters is common among landlords, says Anthony Ziebell, of the Tenant Rights Party. โThereโs this mindset that if youโre a renter, youโre making a poor investment and so you canโt be very smart,โ he says. Some landlords, he says, think renters canโt be trusted with their investment property โ an attitude reflected in the draconian rental laws largely designed to favour landlords.
Take for example, the shortness of leases, the reluctance to allow tenants to change a rented property in any way and the difficulty for tenants to raise disputes.
If the Blackmans lived in Europe or the US they would find a very different scenario. In Switzerland, 56 per cent of people rent. In Germany, only 39 per cent own their homes and renting is seen as normal. Germans often have two year minimum leases, landlords have to give at least three months notice and rents increase by as little as 20 per cent over three years. In LA and NYC, rent control makes leasing a common choice.
In contrast, in certain circumstances Australian landlords can turf out their tenants with little notice and in NSW hike up rents.
Our tax laws favour capital gains tax discounts which reward investment buyers buying up property and moving it on quickly, displacing those living in it in the process. In fact, Australia is seen to be one of the least tenant-friendly countries in the OECD.
Ziebell says tenants groups are desperate to see a change to current laws.
โIn WA there isnโt a rental tribunal, so if you have a problem with your landlord, itโs the magistrateโs court,โ he says. โIn the Northern Territory, thereโs no bond board so renters hand over their bonds and just hope for the best.โ
Other states are better in some areas, he says, but he is yet to hear a valid argument as to why something as important as housing should not be brought under federal law.
He also wants to see longer leases. Short leases have negative effects on adults and children. โWe know the impact on kids when they have to move school or home,โ he says.
โIt can be horrible to see the way renters are treated,โ says Jade Costello, co-founder of Melbourne Rental Search, which caters exclusively to renters. โIf more professionals stay in the market, not just when theyโre young and biding their time, weโll see the market change to meet their needs.โ
For Natasha and Alisdair, the market is the last thing on their minds. One of the advantages about renting is that they have much to talk about other than rising property prices and the latest renovation. โIโd much rather talk about holidays and handbags,โ says Natasha with a laugh.
Kate Tomlinson, 27, rents a two bedroom, freestanding townhouse with her fiancรฉ, Tom White, 27. They run their own business, White Clover Wedding Music.
โRenting allows us to have more money to invest in our business,โ says Kate. โWe might want a shopfront at some point in the future, which we probably couldnโt afford if we sunk all our money into a mortgage. Putting our money in our own business is a solid investment, but who knows what could happen to house prices in an area where we bought a house.
โWeโre confident that our business will earn us more money long term than a property. Then thereโs all our travel. Weโre away most weekends performing at weddings. The last thing we want is have to take care of our own home.โ
โWe will consider buying in the future. Weโre at least a year and a half away from starting a family, so we might want to buy then. This way we will have tested different areas and be confident of buying in the right place. Weโre in an ideal spot now but maybe we donโt want this to be where our family home is.โ
Angie Ersan, 35, and husband, real estate agent Ercan, 36, rent a three-bed terrace with daughters London, six months and Elvie, two.
โThere are three main reasons we rent. We can afford to rent better than we can afford to buy with property prices where they are,โ says Angie.
โWeโre also investing in development elsewhere which has more risk but better returns than if we owned our principal place of residence. And we have small children and want to try places out before we decide what school catchment we want to be in.
โWeโve had bad rental experiences before. Weโve started off on the wrong foot with a landlord, and also had a rental where the landlord was selling and we had to get out. That instability is hard for renters.
โWe now have a great landlady who lets us have our dogs which was a dealbreaker for us! The stigma around renting has got to go. Renting or buying, it just shouldnโt matter these days.โ

Rachel McAdams stepped out in a show-stopping Ellie Saab gown for a fan screening of Doctor Strange in London.
While she only has a supporting role in the film which also stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Tilda Swinton, but she well and truly stole the show in the dramatic couture gown.
From the designerโs Autumn/Winter 16 collection, the cheeky one-shouldered dress featured sheer silk skirt with blue and gold embellishment and a fishtail cut.
Rachel kept her accessories minimal but opted for an equally dramatic hair-do.
Appearing classic from the front, when the actress turned to the side she showed off a modern take on the pony tail.
Earlier this week, while promoting the film, Rachel revealed that she would be keen for a Mean Girls reunion.
โI loved that movie. I love Tina Fey. I love the girls,โ she told The Mirror.
โI mean, to get to kind of have a reunion would beโฆwe got to have a reunion at a photo shoot a couple of years ago and it was over like that and it wasnโt enough. I was back in it.โ

A 60-year-old man who was a foster carer for a 14-year-old girl has been arrested and charged with child sex offences after he allegedly gave the girl drugs and abused her.
In a disturbing revelation, the foster case was being managed by Uniting Care Burnside โ the same organization where a 15-year-old girl dubbed Girl X died after injecting heroin and methamphetamine, reports The Daily Telegraph.
It is understood the man and his wife had cared for the girl for ten years, but that their relationship had changed after the death of the foster mother, thought to be in the last 12 months.
The offender was arrested on October 21 and will be charged with two counts of aggravated indecent assault, sexual intercourse with a person aged 14-16 years and supplying a prohibited drug to a child when he appears at Taree Local Court today,
Police will allege that the first instance of substance abuse occurred at the start of the year, and the second last month, just prior to an investigation being launched into his behavior following reports the girl had been indecently assaulted. She was placed in alternate care in September.
Uniting Care operations director Bob Mulcahy said he could not make any comment on the particular case as it was before the courts.
An inquest into Girl Xโs death has exposed systemic failures in the NSW child protection system, which has been plagued by mismanagement and scandal.

Robin Wiliamโs wife Susan Schneider has given an emotional speech about her husbandโs battle with Lewy Body Disease at the USO of Illinoisโ 75th anniversary celebration over the weekend.
Williams, who was a big supporter of the organisation, was posthumously honoured with the 2016 Angel Harvey Heart of a Patriot Award, which Susan accepted.
โIโm here with you tonight because of my husbandโs heart. Robin absolutely had the heart of a patriot,โ she said. โI cannot think of a more fitting award for him, nor one that he would be more proud to receive, especially in the presence of all of you.โ
She described her husband s a โwarriorโ in his fight against the disease, which causes memory loss, confusion and a reduced attention span according to CNN.
The comedian died after committing suicide in 2014 and it was later reveald through his autopsy that he was suffering with the disease.
โThe biggest battle of his life was against Lewy Body Disease,โ she continued. โThis terrifying disease attacks the brain. No matter how many doctors we saw, symptoms we chased, or tests we ran, it was only in autopsy that I learned we had unknowingly been battling a deadly disease.
โA disease for which there is no cure. The devastation on Robinโs brain from the Lewy bodies, was one of the worst cases medical professionals have ever seen. Yet throughout all of this, his heart remained strong.โ
โRobin may have lost his battle here against LBD. But he did not lose the war. No, heโs not done yet. The way I see it, he has brought the light of dawn to a new mission for all of us. That mission is to eradicate brain disease. I feel as though I am his boots on the ground nowโI look up and know I am not alone.โ
Susan then brought the room to tears as she revealed it was the coupleโs wedding anniversary.
โIt feels like Robin wanted me here on this day to celebrate with all of you, with our best man Bobcat Goldthwait, and with our maid of honour Jean Horn. I also think my honey may have wanted me to put on a pretty dress and to just feel the love in this room tonightโ

A couple of days ago, a baby girl was found on the pavement in India, wrapped in nothing but a plastic bag.
The nights in India have been getting colder as winter approaches, so police were alarmed to receive an anonymous call at 1am from someone who had found her โ they had heard her cries from the street.
BBC News reports that police brought her in to the trauma centre of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), which has been her home for the past few days.
Dr Vinod Kumar Paul told BBC that when she arrived she was cold and had low blood sugar, but has since been treated.
โWe have given her all the mandatory vaccines and since we know nothing about her history, we are testing her for any infections or birth defects,โ Dr Paul said.
The case appears to be one of abandonment, something that is a huge problem in India at the moment. The cause for this is a traditional preference for sons over daughters, because of their ability to carry on the family name and the belief that they will be able to look after their parents when they get old.
According to data from the 2011 Census in India, for every 1000 boys born, only 927 girls were born โ and the problem has only got worse with figures from earlier this year showing that this number is now down to 918.
Somnath Paruthi, the police officer who brought the baby to the trauma centre, is in disbelief that abandonment and infanticide is still so rampant.
โRecently when a young woman won an Olympic medal, Indians celebrated. And now we find a baby girl being dumped on the pavement to die. We are people with such double standards.โ
The baby girl has been named Swadha, meaning โgift of Godโ.

As Zoe Foster Blake continues the promotional trail for her new beauty bible Amazinger Face and new hit show The Wrong Girl, we get to reap the benefits of all the beauty knowledge she is imparting along the way.
In a new interview with The Grace Tales, Zoe opens up about her beauty routine and tips and tricks sheโs picked up along the way.
When asked about her best all time beauty tip, the busy working mum has the ultimate time-saving solution: the second day rule.
โEverything looks better on the second day,โ she says. โHair is soft and textured, not clean and slippery and stupid, spray tans have washed off and settled in, brow tints and lash extensions have settled in, and skin after a facial is glowy without being red or shiny.โ
So in other words, stop stressing about washing and styling your hair every day, and just let it be free people.
But if youโre super time poor, Zoe says you can even get away with second-day make-up.

Ask Australian designer Ryan Lobo the moment he believed his brand Tome had finally โarrivedโ and he doesnโt hesitate. โGiovanna in the trench,โ he says, definitively.
Heโs talking about Italian stylist (and former girlfriend of Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld, yes, Carineโs son) Giovanna Battaglia, who wore a mercurial gold jacket to New York Fashion Week in 2013. It caused a street style frenzy, and the pictures of Battaglia striding down a Manhattan sidewalk were plastered across style blogs and shared on Instagram.
โI believe that a single person can put you on the map,โ muses Lobo.
Suddenly, the little label founded by two Australian expats (Loboโs business partner is Ramon Martin) was transformed into an It-brand with heavy-hitting A-list clientele including Sarah Jessica Parker, Cate Blanchett, Sigourney Weaver, Isabella Rossellini and Emma Watson.
Magazines called the collection in for photoshoots. The CFDA nominated the brand for awards. Buyers set up appointments. And then, a little down the line, Amal Clooney โ via a stylist, of course โ got in touch. The boys from Oz had made it.
Clooney is a particular fan of Tome, recently wearing a striped purple jumpsuit to visit her husband on set in Los Angeles. (Previously, she has worn a white bias cut slip dress for a dinner date, and a chequered sleeveless trench to her chambers in London. When those images circulated the tabloids and blogs, the jacket immediately sold out and the brand was inundated with back orders).
For Watson, the appeal of Tome is in the brandโs ethical approach to design. On a recent trip to Malawi as part of her ambassadorial role with UN Women, the 26-year-old actress wore a top from the brandโs White Shirt collection, proceeds from which go towards funding anti-slavery charities.
โYou may have noticed me talking about my clothes recently,โ Watson wrote on her Instagram. โIโm trying to be conscious about where my clothes come from and also about the people who make themโฆ (Iโm not being paid by brands to do this btw!).โ
On the incredible affection Tome inspires among its fans, Lobo is modest: โItโs beyond thrilling to see pictures of someone wearing [your designs] and Iโm sure no designer regardless of how big they are could say that they would not receive such incredible validation through moments like that.โ

Before Kim Kardashian was held at gun point and robbed in her Paris hotel on October 2, she sat down with 60 minutes for an interview about fame, money and her life in the public eye.
The interview aired in the US on Sunday October 23 and the 36-year-old was candid about her public persona and capitalising on that through social media.
โThere are pitfalls: lack of privacy, loss of privacy,โ she tells interviewer Bill Whitaker. โThatโs not for everyone. For me, I can handle it.โ
When Whittaker asked if her fame could exist without social media, she responded, โNot in this way. I totally attribute my career to social mediaโ.
Following the Paris attack, Kim has gone completely silent on social media, with experts predicting she stands to lose $1 million per month on just social media alone.
When Whittaker says she โmonetized the act of living,โ the reality star agrees, โYeah, I guess so,โ she says.

A New Zealand woman claiming to be Gable Tosteeโs girlfriend has labelled Warrina Wright โself-confessed psycho drunkโ on social media.
Lizzi Evans joined a closed Facebook group called the Gable Tostee and Warriena Wright case discussion group, which was set up during the Supreme Court murder trial.
In the group, Ms Evans identifies herself as Tosteeโs partners and posts a number of times defending him.
โClearly the deceased was incredibly intoxicated, self confessed โpsychoโ drunk whom felt it ok to assault people without warning on (sic) their own home, โ she writes in the posts obtained by News.com.au.
โShe acted irrationally and yet you continue to point the finger at an innocent man who acted in self defenseโ.
In another post she reportedly described him as โvery strong willedโ, โstrong in characterโ and โdeterminedโ.
โHe was only behaving how every other guy on the gc (Gold Coast) seems too but gets strung out for it,โ she wrote in a post that has since been deleted.
โHeโs so far from this person described itโs not even funny,โ she added in another.
Ms Evans was seen supporting Tostee alongside his family in the final days of the trial, and News.com.au reports that she โgasped, cried and clasped the hands of the woman sitting beside her,โ when he was found not guilty.

The brother of Maria Lutz, the mother who was killed along with her husband and two children in a suspected murder-suicide last week, has arrived in Australia.
Juan Lutz Pena wants to know why his โdeeply upsetโ sister would call the Department of Family and Community โnine times a dayโ without anyone doing anything about it.
Fernando Manrique, 44, his wife Maria Claudia Lutz, 43, and the coupleโs two children Martin, 10, and Eliza, 11 along with their family dog were all found dead inside the home on Sydneyโs Northern Beaches last Monday.
Police are investigating whether Manrique was behind the deaths in an apparent murder-suicide.
In the lead up to her death it has been revealed Ms Lutz was struggling to cope with looking after her two severely disabled children.
Juan is deeply upset by the death of his sister and wants to know why the relationship between Family and Community Services broke down,โ a source close to the family told the Daily Telegraph.
โHe was very close to Maria and, as a father himself, adored Elisa and Martin. He longed for them all to come back to Colombia to be close to family.โ
Police reportedly discovered a network of pipes and gas bottles throughout the home, believed to have been installed by Manrique to gas his family.
Neighbours reported seeing the technology executive working on the roof with power tools over the weekend before the familyโs deaths.
โHe was right up on the roof replacing tiles and using power tools of sorts,โ Neighbour Ofik Thomassian toldNews.com.au.
โHe was cutting and banging and making all sorts of noise and pulling up tiles but I donโt really know what he was doing.โ
A number of other neighbours have also confirmed seeing the father working on the roof over the weekend.

The star has managed to stir up her devoted online crew of Hathahaters after confirming she only pretended to be joyously happy with her 2013 Academy Award win for Les Miserables.
In an interview with The Guardian, Hathaway came clean about her infamous Best Supporting Actress acceptance speech, admitting she actually felt uncomfortable about winning the coveted award.
โItโs an obvious thing, you win an Oscar and youโre supposed to be happy. I didnโt feel that way,โโ she said. โI felt wrong that I was standing there in a gown that costs more than some people are going to see in their lifetime.
โI kind of lost my mind doing that movie and it hadnโt come back yet,โโ she went on to explain. โThen I had to stand up in front of people and feel something I donโt feel which is uncomplicated happiness.โ
At the time Hathaway was publicly derided for opening her Oscars acceptance speech with the words โโIt came trueโโ โ presumably a nod to her character Fantineโs famous lyric โI dreamed a dream in time gone by.โ
Consequently her Hathahaters came out in force chastising her for a cringe-worthy quote and declaring it proof she had over-rehearsed the speech, while feigning surprise at winning. In short, the speech made us all feel awkward because she was awkward in giving it.
Three years later Hathaway has added fuel to the fire with her weekend confession โI tried to pretend that I was happy and I got called out on it, big time,โโ she declared in the interview.
Now the world awaits to see if the Hathahaters respond with their anticipated vitriol.

A young woman thought to have killed herself in 2013 is now the center of a murder investigation โ with police believing her boyfriend is the main suspect.
When Maddison Murphy Westโs dead body was found at her Pakenham unit on October 23, her violent meth-using boyfriend Troy Boothey told police he had found his partner of four years hanging from the door, her two-year-old son Noah nearby.
But police now think Maddison, 20, was murdered by Boothey and disguised as self-harm, confirming the long-held beliefs of her mother, Paula. The young mother had been treated in hospital for an assault 13-months before her death and her family believe she was often in fear for her life.

Boothey, now 27, went to jail for a month after Maddisonโs death for a road rage attack while on an ice-bender. He is also facing further jail time for a string of theft and drug offences, but is yet to be charged for murder.
Investigators involved in the three year case have sent evidence to the Victoria State Coroner, which means the case could go before an inquest.
A family-run Facebook page named โJustice For Maddyโ has provided updates over the years as the Murphy-Wests search for answers. โHow can this filth ever do this to Maddy and live with it, why isnโt he asking who killed Maddy himself?โ a post in July reads. โWhy isnโt he screaming from the rooftops that his innocent? We all know he did it! And it will be proven eventually!โ

Taylor Swift was successful this week in having a photograph of herself allegedly being groped by a DJ being kept from the public.
In 2015, the 26-year-old countersued Robert โJacksonโ Mueller for allegedly groping her after a 2013 concert after he sued her for slander, claiming her security team accused him of sexually assaulting the pop star and he lost his job and future gigs as a result.
Meuller claims the incident did happen, but states it was is KYGO radio station boss, Eddie Haskell, reports Vulture.
The judge presiding over the case ordered to seal the pictures of the incident until after the trial, agreeing with Swiftโs team that it is almost certain that โthe photograph will be shared for scandalous and prurient interests.โ
The judge did however, rule that other evidence in the case should not be held back.
In her July 26 deposition, Swift is asked to recount the incident, and describes feeling โdistressedโ and โviolatedโ.
โRight as the moment came for us to pose for the photo, he took his hand and put it up my dress and grabbed onto my ass cheek and no matter how much I scooted over it was still there,โ said Swift, according to court records obtained by Billboard.
โIt was completely intentional, Iโve never been so sure of anything in my life.โ
โI remember being frantic, distressed, feeling violated in a way I had never experienced before,โ Swift said. โA meet-and-greet is supposed to be a situation where youโre thanking people for coming, youโre supposed to be welcoming people into your home, which is the arena for that day, and for someone to violate that hospitality in that way, I was completely stunned.โ
The Blank Space singer filed the deposition in the hopes of avoiding a trial, and has said she will donate all money a jury might award her to charities that protect women from sexual assault.

The father of 12-year-old Omar Hassan recently announced that he would be marrying his 11-year-old cousin, Gharam.
The Washington Postreports that the news comes soon after father Nasser Hassanโs eldest son was married โ and he later recalled that he had decided to โdouble the joyโ at the wedding by announcing their engagement.
While the guests at the wedding didnโt consider this strange, the family released engagement photos of the pair dressed up as a bride and groom, and child activists are outraged.

In Egypt, people must be 18 years old to be legally married, but that does not prevent them from getting engaged earlier.
Reda Eldanbouki, who is the head of the Womenโs Center for Guidance and Legal Awareness in Egypt, has reported the incident to the National Center for Childhood and Motherhood, which is a government agency. He has called the engagement a โcrimeโ.
Eldanboukiโs main concern is that the engagement โwill only lead to an early marriage in which the girl will be deprived of equal chances to education, growth, and will isolate her from social spheresโ.
Meanwhile, the father has faced a lot of backlash since the announcement, and has responded to the negative press.
He defended the engagement, saying โOmar has always loved Gharam so much that he used to say he will marry her when they grow up.โ He also insists that they will be married at the legal age of 18.
According to UNICEF, 17 percent of girls are married before the legal age in Egypt, and most of these marriages happen in rural areas.

The Turnbull government is planning to shut down women who โdouble dipโ and receive paid parental leave from both their employer and the government. These changes could come into effect as early as January, the Sydney Morning Heraldreports.
If this new legislation is passed by Parliament, it would mean that in the new year women who are pregnant will receive only one payout: either from their employer, or from their government.
โThis is a direct attack on paid parental leave, a direct attack on those mothers who are trying to combine their work and family responsibilities, and will leave thousands and thousands of new mothers in this country worse off,โ opposition families spokeswoman Jenny Macklin told the Sydney Morning Herald.

Desperate, luckless, promiscuousโฆ unattached women are tagged with their fair share of labels. But thereโs one that Dolly Alderton finds more provocative than any other.
The year is 2013 and Iโve just come back from one of the worst dates of my life. I walk into my apartment where my roommate is watching telly with her boyfriend. โHow was it?โ she asks. โAwful,โ I say, grabbing wine from the fridge and taking a swig straight from the bottle. โHe didnโt ask me one question, talked about himself all night, turned up already drunk, bit my lip when he tried to kiss me and pushed me against a wall so hard in an attempt to seem passionate, I think Iโve got whiplash in my neck.โ Thereโs a brief pause. โSo you really donโt see it working?โ โUm. No. Did you not just hear what happened?โ โItโs a shame,โ she says. โI just think he sounded so perfect for you.โ โHow?โ โHeโs tall, heโs handsome, heโs successful, he owns his own house,โ she says, gesticulating pleadingly. โIโm not going to forgo a boyfriend with any personality or ability to snog just because heโs a property owner,โ I say. โI just think youโre being too picky,โ she replies. โSorry, but I do. If you want to meet someone, you may have to lower your standards a bit. Nobodyโs perfect.โ Her boyfriend nods in silent, sage agreement. Sound familiar? Iโm not surprised.
โYouโre just too pickyโ has been commonly thrown at me and my single girlfriends for all of our late 20s, and it is increasingly driving me more and more mad with every year I get older. It crops up when I have the audacity to complain about a date and usually comes from my smug coupled friends or my mother (of course). Sometimes even a few of my close male friends feel free to share their opinions which make me feel like crap โ as if I have totally misjudged how high I should be aiming in life. The worst thing about the slur is the extended assumption that I should be grateful that anyone would even want to have a tepid glass of pinot gris with me. And that the reason I am still single is because there is something inherently wrong with my approach to the dating world. As if dating isnโt hard enough, Iโm made to feel bad about the way I go about it. Thanks for your support, guys! But how much of this pickiness is us being fussy and how much is it us having high, solid expectations for ourselves? I think it may be the latter: this alleged โpickinessโ may just be the word given to describe the fact women have grown more confidence about what it is they want. We donโt have to sit around doing tapestries at home waiting for a suitor to choose us and ask our parents for our hand in marriage anymore; we work, weโre sexually free, we can ask men out, we can swipe left and right. We have the freedom of being able to choose a partner, after thousands of years of being chosen. Similarly, it canโt just be a coincidence that our supposed increase in fussiness has overlapped with the increase in popularity of dating apps. So many of us now meet as strangers, based solely on looks, rather than friends of friends or people with a social context. Maybe itโs possible we think of dates as being disposable?
โMaybe this word describes the fact women have grown more confident about what they wantโ
Instead of giving them a little time to grow, we put them on the โnoโ pile and move on to the next. As male and female singletons have adapted to the new dating scene, my theory is this pickiness is simply an extension of natural evolution. Well, some would disagree. According to behavioural psychologist Jo Hemmings, being extra-selective when looking for a partner is more commonly female than male: โWomen tend to have a more specific type of man in mind,โ she explains. โMany women have a long shopping list which if they donโt find in a potential partner, they wonโt pursue. Examples might include looks based expectations โ hair colour (or simply hair at all!), height, good teeth, nice smile. Or lifestyle preferences โ job status, location, age, education, sporty.โ
These criteria ring bells with me โ I have been known to not fancy a man on the sheer basis of his penchant for short-sleeved, button-down shirts (Hawaiian, patterned, plain, any of them), no matter how hard I try to look past it. I have another friend who only dates men who play rugby (she likes their shoulders and crooked noses) and another who only goes for tall, blond Nordic types. But thatโs what happens when forced to shop for a prospective partner online. You end up having to hone your criteria as this is all youโve got to go on. Jo says that the selective functions of dating apps can only take us so far. โInterestingly, the one thing that an app canโt do โ however sophisticated they have become โ is legislate for chemistry. In the real world, itโs very possible, and much more common, for women to fall in love with someone who isnโt their traditional type, where other factors such as personality, voice and charisma kickstart those butterflies.โ Hereโs the conundrum: while only searching for men who we think are the men of our dreams, we are potentially missing out on the man of our dreams.
Weโve all heard stories about women who fall in love with the man theyโd never have gone for. Gemma*, 32, is 178cm and always thought sheโd end up with a bloke 183cm or taller: โAny average-height guy made me feel so big and manly,โ she says. But after much encouragement from her friends, she reluctantly went on a date with a man who was 8cm shorter than her. Two years later and the couple now lives together. โHe made me feel more like a woman than any other big, tall man Iโd been with,โ says Gemma. โI had been searching for the physical, when really what I wanted was someone who made me laugh and made me feel relaxed and sexy. I found that in a short guy.โ Jo tells me that pickiness in women could also be to self-protect: โSome women, particularly those who have been badly hurt or who may not yet be ready to date again, become extra picky as a defence mechanism.โ This certainly rings true with me โ I chose bad guys because I was familiar with the tragic cycle of the bad guy.
Then a few years ago I was out for dinner with friends, complaining about the guy I had met the week before. He was what I thought was my perfect type โ a cocky musician Iโd seen play in a local bar and beelined for him afterwards. We had stayed up all night drinking and kissing and I left him floating on a cloud โ only to never hear from him again. โOK youโve got to let go of this guy-in-a-band thing,โ my flatmate said forcefully. โWhat do you mean?โ I asked. I looked around the table at my friendsโ worried faces and realised I was in the centre of an intervention. โYou are so obsessed with finding this man,โ another friend chipped in. โThat I think doesnโt exist. If you want this tattooed, rockstar pin-up that everyone fancies, well, heโs probably not going to be very nice to you.โ โThatโs not true!โ I protested. โThere are plenty of egotistical rockstars who are also really good boyfriends.โ โLike who?โ My flatmate sighed. โName one.โ โLenny Kravitz?โ I suggested limply. โLenny Kravitz is celibate because of his religion,โ another replied. Point taken. The ideal man in our heads encompasses all sorts of fantasies that canโt quite co-exist. There is a chance I could meet the curly-haired, bad-boy musician Iโve always wanted โ but with it Iโd probably have to compromise some other more important things: would he be kind to me, would my friends like him, would he make a good long-term partner or father one day?
โMany women have a long shopping list which if they donโt find in a potential partner; they wonโt pursueโ
Or, I could meet the man who is all those things โ sweet and funny and loving. But perhaps the only guitar heโs ever picked up in his life is the miniature plastic one you use for Guitar Hero. So how do I feel now when people I know and love call me picky? Fed up, slightly insulted, but also a little more willing to be proven wrong. The joy of getting older means you relax into the idea that things may change. In my early 20s, I used to be so resistant to criticism and advice, convinced that what I thought then was set in concrete forever. Now it has been proven to me time and time again that I might get things wrong
or my attitude may change. So, if so many people who care about me are saying they think I might end up with someone I donโt expect, perhaps itโs time I chew on this a while. Iโm not willing to negotiate my standards; Iโm not willing to compromise my desire for someone who sets my heart and soul on fire. But I am willing to try dating men I wouldnโt usually go for. And if I hate it โIโll just go back to the wannabe rockstars.
In the end, the thing that has really helped me โbroaden my mindโ (my preferred choice of phrase to โstop being so pickyโ) is to remember how far away I am from perfection. After all Iโm slightly too tall, slightly too loud, slightly self involved with slightly wonky teeth. I would hope that when prospective partners meet me, theyโd take a compassionate leap of faith to look past those flaws and also see a woman who is kind and curious about the world and trying her best to live and grow in it. So if thatโs an open mindedness I expect from men, it is only fair that I exercise the same. But donโt tell me Iโm being picky just because my leap of faith still wonโt stretch past short-sleeved shirts โ Hawaiian, paisley or otherwise. Iโm working on it. OK?

Before he was winning hearts in The Notebook and winning critical acclaim in Drive, Ryan Gosling was just another young actor looking for his big break.
Sadly that break wasnโt to come with a role in Gilmore Girls, although we canโt help but think it would have been AMAZING!
During a panel discussion at the inaugural Gilmore Girls Fan Festival last week, the showโs casting director Jami Rudofsky revealed a rather interesting tidbit after being asked if there are any actors she sees as โthe one who got awayโ.
According to Vulture, Rudofsky recalled a handsome young actor that she had cast in an independent film she was working on before Gilmore Girls. Before he auditioned she says, โI rolled my eyes because he was late, and he was blonde.โ However she says she quickly realised he was โamazingโ. Because Ryan Gosling.
She then brought him in to read for a role in Gilmore Girls as a โfootball characterโ, but sadly his audition fell short and apparently everyone thought she was crazy for thinking he was any good. Their loss.
But everything happens for a reason though right because if he had landed the part he might have never gone on to star in The Notebook and we might never have known the joy that is a โHey Girlโ meme.

In the lengthy post titled โregarding the balcony tragedyโ written on a body building forum, he gives his version of events, protesting his innocence and slamming the media scrutiny he was facing.
The post went strictly against the advice of his lawyers at the time.
According to News.com.au, the contents of the two-year-old post were unable to be reported until after the jury returned its verdict.
โSo far Iโve been silent about the whole thing which has left my hands tied while so many misconceptions and untruths are being circulated in the media and in the public,โ he wrote.
โFirst off let me say that the death of Warriena was the most tragic and distressing event I have ever experienced.
โKnowing I was the last person to be with her, it has left me permanently scarred and not a day passes that I donโt wish I could go back in time and prevent it.
โFor at least a week after it happened I was so overwhelmed I was unable to laugh or even crack a smile.
โI broke down in tears several times a day, or whenever I saw her picture in the news.โ
Tostee then went on to detail how the events of the night unfolded, recalling how they initially got along โgreatโ, before she became โincreasingly aggressiveโ.
โIโm not sure whether she found it amusing but it was getting out of hand,โ he said. โShe kept hitting me, taunting me, throwing my stuff around and trashing my apartment.
โFor the last couple of hours with her most of my efforts were spent trying to placate her in the hope that she would calm down.
โI tried to make her leave but instead of leaving she grabbed a nearby metal object and tried to swing it at me.
โThis is where the alleged โchokingโ sounds began. I never deliberately choked her or put my hands around her neck, all I did was try to remove the weapon from her.
โIf I wanted to choke her out then it probably wouldnโt have been hard, but I did not do that as I did not want to hurt her.
โA less forgiving man could have quite conceivably exercised less restraint and retaliated violently.
โI did what I did to prevent further physical conflict and de-escalate the situation as best as I could.โ
In the recordings of the pairโs evening, seconds before being locked on the balcony, Wright can be heard pleading with Tostee to let her leave, and he can be heard saying โnoโ and telling her โyouโve been a bad girlโ.
Tostee addressed this in his post.
โThe โbad girlโ comment was me frustratingly trying to tell her that I already tried to make her leave in response to her claiming she wanted to go home,โ he continued.
โIn the heat of the moment and given the fact that I had been drinking all night, eloquence was not my first priority.
โThe struggle took place about 2-3 metres away from the rear glass doors that lead to my balcony.
โMy front door was about 10m away, and has an automatic closer and lock which I would have had to flick then hold open while trying to force her out.
โThis would have been much more difficult and wasnโt really an option.
โPutting her outdoors would have meant I could separate her from me and keep an eye on her through the glass doors until she either calmed down or I called someone like security or police to take her away.
โNever in my wildest imagination did I expect what happened next.
Tostee then addresses his actions after the fall, leaving the building via the basement, calling his lawyer, ordering pizza and his calm demeanor all being heavily criticised by the public and the media.
โTrying to keep my composure as much as possible I quickly realised that it would be extremely foolish to go back out on the balcony in case she had indeed fallen and someone saw me standing near the edge,โ he said.
โThe only sensible thing I could think to do at the time was call my lawyer, who would know what to do. Of course, the call didnโt go through.
โI did not โfleeโ the scene as it has been claimed.
โI went downstairs to see if I could find out what happened.
โWhen I reached the lobby I saw flashing emergency lights coming from outside. At this point it dawned on me that something serious had happened.
โI was terrified, exhausted, intoxicated, and quite disorientated and all I wanted to do was get advice.
โI knew if I walked into police I could have been held under suspicion without legal representation, a situation nobody would want to be in.
โI resorted to leaving the building and calling my Dad.
โItโs easy for readers to say what they would have done given hindsight, but it is impossible to know how you would react if you werenโt there.โ
โWhile I was waiting to meet my Dad I bought a slice of pizza to curb my hunger and anxiety. It was the most convenient thing I could find at that hour,โ he wrote.
โThe suggestion that I casually or leisurely indulged in a meal is absolutely outrageous.
โI was anything but casual. I had to eat because I was hungry, anxious, and intoxicated, and a slice of pizza was the easiest meal I could find.
โAs soon as I was able to obtain legal advice and representation I presented myself to the police who examined me later that day.
โI didnโt go home, I didnโt sleep, I didnโt even shower until that evening when I was released. โThat night, the police seized my phone and my parentsโ phones, where they found the recording. While I did not expect them to seize it, it is completely untrue that I tried to delete it, as it proved what happened.โ

What was meant to be a happy week for Georgia Love, as she finally reveals who has stolen her heart in The Bachelorette season finale, has turned to heartbreak with reports that her mother has been admitted to palliative care.
The reality starโs mum, Belinda Love, has been admitted due to pancreatic cancer just days before the show was set to wrap.
โGeorgia and her family are going through a very difficult time with serious family health issues,โ Network Ten told The Daily Telegraph in a statement.
โThey are focusing on supporting each other during this hard time and we kindly ask you to respect their privacy.โ
Ten says they will do whatever they can to support Love.
It remains unclear whether Love will take part in the scheduled rounds of publicity in the lead-up to the finale, as well as the post show interviews.
Love has spoken openly of her mumโs battle throughout the show, admitting it was part of the reason she decided to do the show at all.

Alexis Bledel was living the New York lifestyle! Though her apartment in Brooklyn is a lot smaller than her house in Gilmore Girls, it is very chic, and in a gorgeous location.

Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump made a number of jabs at one another in the third presidential debate, but when Donald Trump called Hillary Clinton a โnasty womanโ, the Internet exploded.
Itโs an insult Iโm sure a lot of women can relate to โ one that is often used when women speak out, act assertively and hold people accountable for their actions.

Attention fashion fiends: the third season of American Crime Story (the Emmy-winning series which most recently portrayed the OJ Simpson trial) is set to explore the mysterious death of Gianni Versace.
Back in 1997, the Italian fashion designer was gunned down on the steps of his Miami mansion; to date the murder case remains unsolved.
While details of the highly anticipated production are still under wraps, the internet has gone into meltdown assembling its dream cast.
Our favourites? Lady Gaga as Gianniโs platinum-tressed sister Donatella.

The house of Versace has been quick to distance itself from the series, deeming it a โwork of fictionโ.
But so long as thereโs โ90s nostalgia, glamazon supermodels โ and a dash of that brash Euro excess synonymous with the fashion house โ weโll be watching.

Rachel McAdams has recently revealed that she is totally onboard for a Mean Girls reunion โ whether that be in the form of a movie or something else!
The Mirror reports that while promoting her new film, Doctor Strange, which she stars in with Benedict Cumberbatch and Tilda Swinton, she spoke about her role of Regina George in Mean Girls, and how she definitely misses it a lot.
โI loved that movie. I love Tina Fey. I love the girls. I mean, to get to kind of have a reunion would beโฆwe got to have a reunion at a photo shoot a couple of years ago and it was over like that and it wasnโt enough. I was back in it.โ
She also revealed that she saw kids in Regina Georgeโs future. โReginaโs probably had a few,โ she said.
Lindsay Lohan has also recently campaigned for a sequel, posting a throwback photo of her co-stars captioned: โ#tbt @rayannemcadams @thereallacey #meangirls @markwatersfilm miss you allโฆ sequel?โ
At the moment, thereโs no word from the directors on whether or not this is a possibility, but once the rest of the cast members get on board itโs gotta be, right?!

Teresa Palmer is currently 32 weeks pregnant with her second child with husband Mark Webber, and has been actively detailing every step of her pregnancy on her blog, Your Zen Mama.
In her most recent post, the Aussie actress revealed that she is planning to have her baby in hospital after suffering complications with her first birth with son, Bodhi.
โI had a slight complication post birth with my placenta after Bodhi was born which is why I chose a hospital birth over a home birth this time round,โ she writes.
This time around her plan is to โLabor at home for as long as possibleโ before transferring to hospital for the birth with a midwife through a Midwifery Program.

A Swedish Cancer Society ad has been pulled down from Facebook due to containing content that was deemed โoffensiveโ.
The ad contained information about how to check for breast cancer, and featured cartoons with circular breasts.
The Facebook page received a message from Facebook explaining the reasoning for their choice: โYour ad cannot market sex products or services nor adults products or services.โ
โWe understand that you have to have rules about the content published on your platform. But you also must understand that one of our main tasks is to disseminate important information about cancer โ in this case breast cancer,โ they wrote.

As Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner are international models, theyโve definitely been victim to some bad photoshop before. Gigi Hadid has had her freckles photoshopped off her stomach, and Kendall Jenner has been given bigger boobs, with both causing outrage.
However W Magazine has taken things to the next level, by smoothing their toes, altering their faces and most strangely, removing their knees!

Itโs unclear whether this choice was intentional as part of the artistic โspace ageโ element of the shootโฆor whether it was a really bad Photoshop fail. Either way, it certainly says something about the way we view womenโs bodies.

Just like with their first bub, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds have remained tight-lipped on any details surrounding baby number two.
We know that they have in fact welcomed their little one and that Taylor Swift visited her pal in hospital, but thatโs pretty much where the details end.
Now it seems though Ryan Reynolds might have, possibly, maybe, just revealed the sex of the second little one in a Tweet.
โThe mobile above my daughterโs crib is just a whole bunch of NuvaRings. So she remembers how lucky she is,โ he wrote (NuvaRings are a form of birth control ICYWW).
Yes he said the word โdaughterโ.
Now, we know he already has a daughter, James, but she is almost two, so many fans were quick to speculate that she might not be in a crib any more, and probably wouldnโt have a mobile because toddlers are very grabby โ apparently.
However we do know Ryan is a fan of the old LOLs on social media, so this could just be his idea of a joke.
But while itโs a little bit of a stretch, the thought of Ryan Reynolds as a dad to two daughters is literally the cutest thing ever so weโre just going to go ahead and continue thinking it for now.

After days of deliberation, the jury in the Gable Tostee murder trial finally reached a verdict yesterday afternoon, finding him not guilty of the murder or manslaughter of Warriena Wright.
ABC News reports the jurors rejected the Crownโs case that Gable Tostee had intimidated the victim to her death. The defence had argued that he was acting in self-defence, trying to prevent further attacks by locking her on the balcony.
Following the trial, the 30-year-old allegedly told a friend it has been โhell to go throughโ.
โIt really is hell to go through and I wouldnโt wish it on anyone. Especially after one girlโs life was already lost,โ a text message from Tostee to the friend said, according to 7 News.
Following the trial it has since emerged that Tostee previously โfreaked outโ another Tinder date on his balcony before she fled his apartment, according to News.com.au.
This fact was not told to the jury during his murder trial, nor was his self-confessed binge-drinking problem.

Tostee remained active on social media and Tinder after Wrightโs death, boasting about how many women he had met on the dating app and how many women he had slept with.
The Gold Coast man reportedly took to the dating app after he was banned form a number of local nightclubs after a number of complaints from women.
Sin City manager Ty Davidson told News Corp that he banned Tostee because he had been โcreeping them outโ.
In the lead up to Wrightโs death, Tostee was facing police charges for incidents committed whilst intoxicated, including public nuisance and obstructing police, but the charges were later dropped.
He was also involved in a high-speed police chase after he was caught driving without number plates just two weeks before her death, he pleaded guilty to these charges and served six months in jail while on bail for the murder charge of Ms Wright.
The Courier Mail today reports details of a psychiatric report from 2006 that describes Tostee as a โpartially disabled personโ after he was sentenced for being the mastermind of a fake id racket.
In the report, Dr Ian Curtis described Tostee as a โpartially disabled personโ and suggested he likely suffers from Aspergerโs syndrome.
โTostee presented as a socially distant, emotionally estranged person with whom it was impossible to establish a clear-cut rapport,โ the court at the time was told.
โDr Curtis noted that Tostee had no regular social life and was not equipped to deal in a discriminating manner with people whom he met socially.โ
Dr Curtis also said Tostee suffered from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and recommended Tostee required ongoing help.
Dr Derek Matthew who saw Tostee on a number of occasions between 2001 and 2006, also gave evidence that he was constantly having to โreassure the patientโ
โDr Matthew concedes that he is frequently not sure what plane Tostee is thinking on and that there is an abstract quality at times in his communication,โ the court heard.
โ(He) states that โฆ from an early age it has been observed that Tostee has above average intellect but at the same time is handicapped by behavioural problems that come partly under the umbrella of Aspergerโs syndrome with very marked obsessional compulsive and anxiety features.โ

While we canโt get enough of Victoria Beckhamโs designs, the reality is our bank balances fall vastly short.
So when news came in that the former Spice Girl turned fashion entrepreneur was doing a collection with Target we literally squealed.
โSo excited to announce my new limited edition collaboration with@Target, VB wrote on Instagram. โInspired by my VVB collection, coming April 2017 x vb#VBxTargetThank you@bofโ.
While the bad news is the line wonโt be available in Australia Target stores, the good news is you have until April to book flights.
โThe timing just felt right,โBeckham told theBusiness of Fashion. โIโve made no secret of the fact that I wanted to put a collection out there for people who either canโt afford designer prices or donโt want to pay designer prices.โ
The collection will range from $6 to $70 and will be made up of over 200 pieces.
โThese are clothes that I want to wear,โ Beckham added. โI feel that Iโve been very, very honest with myself, my customer, and I am hoping to find a new customer as well.โ

While initial CCTV footage obtained by police from a shop near the apartment where Kim Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint proved unusable, new footage has now emerged that appears to show the five men clearly making their getaway.
In a video obtained by French news outlet M6 Info, the five men were captured by a side-street camera directly around the corner from the exclusive hotel where Kim was staying.
The footage shows the five men approaching the hotel at around 2:19am, and while the men are not identifiable form the footage, it matches the timing and number of men reported in the crime.
At 3:07 two men can be seen walking by again, this time in the opposite direction, and appear to be walking at a brisker pace.
One minute later the men are followed by two cyclists, and a second later a third. The third cyclist appears to have a bag attached to his bike โ believed to be carrying the stolen items.
Kim has remained largely out of the spotlight since the incident, but mum Kris Jenner gave her first statement about how Kim is doing this week.
โItโs a process,โ Jenner told E! News. โOne day at a time. Itโs a process.โ

After days of deliberation, the jury in the Gable Tostee murder trial has reached a verdict, and found him not guilty of the murder or manslaughter of Warriena Wright.
ABC News reports the jurors rejected the Crownโs case that Gable Tostee had intimidated the victim to her death. The defence had argued that he was acting in self-defence, trying to prevent further attacks by locking her on the balcony.
To find him guilty of manslaughter, the jury had to find that he unlawfully killed Warriena Wright by intimidating her to scale the balcony to try and escape.
To find him guilty of murder, they had to prove he had intended to cause her grievous bodily harm by stopping her from breathing for 45 seconds before he pushed her out onto the balcony.
Jurors were unable to reach a unanimous verdict on Tuesday, seeking clarification on four points in the trial.
And on Wednesday afternoon, the jury once asked Justice John Byrne for further clarification on whether language should be considered force.
โThe short answer is โNo,โโ said Justince Byrne, according to News.com.au.
Going on to explain, he said that โonly the physical force used by Tostee to move Warriena Wright onto his balcony should be regarded as force,โ according to News.com.au.
Gable Tostee jury question: "Is language to be considered as force?" Justice Byrne says "short answer is no." #7Newshttps://t.co/zqzfAv079M
On Tuesday, jurors sought clarification on four points in the trial.
One of these questions was: what was the long metal object Tostee was carrying as he left his Gold Coast apartment following Warriena Wrightโs death?
The jury also sought clarification on Tosteeโs age and, most tellingly, whether Ms Wrightโs state of mind at the time she fell was important, report news.com. They asked if her intoxication was something they had to consider as to whether her decision to climb over the balcony was unreasonable and irrational.
Ms Wright, who had a blood alcohol reading of 0.156 โ more than three times the safe driving limit โ plunged to her death from Tosteeโs 14th floor Gold Coast apartment after Tostee locked her on his balcony. She was attempting to climb to the balcony below when she fell.
As the jury deliberations resumed, the judge told the jury that the object Tostee was carrying was irrelevant to their decision. He also urged them not to consider Tosteeโs seemingly nonchalant behaviour following Ms Wrightโs death as an indication that he may be guilty.
โIt would be wrong for you to use any of the evidence of what he did as advancing the prosecution case for murder or manslaughter and I direct you not to,โ he said.
CCTV footage showed during the trial revealed Tostee left his apartment to avoid emergency services who had raced to the scene, opting instead to walk around the Surfers Paradise for an hour, even stopping to eat a pizza.
The jury had been advised not to take his actions after her death into account in their verdict.

The third presidential debate started off a lot more civilised than the past two. The audience was urged to be quiet throughout the proceedings (so as not to sway or distract viewers) and Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton kept their voices low.
โฆBut it didnโt take long to descend into madness.
This became one of the more โshoutyโ debates, with both candidates visibly frustrated with the other, and speaking loudly over moderator Chris Wallace, who asked some pretty forthright questions about the big issues.
This debate covered womenโs right to abortion, gun laws, immigration, the fitness of both candidates to lead and their plans to lead the US out of debt, and for the first time in a while, the US public actually got some answers.
However, the Internet had a LOT to say about the events, and comments that were made. Here are some of our fave reactionsโฆ
When Donald Trump said of Mexican immigration, โWe have some bad hombres here, and weโre going to get them out.โ
Well, now we know Trump's Spanish vocabulary is all of 2 words: "hombre" and "taco". I'd gladly teach him a few more choice wordsโฆ https://t.co/rgBq0Yyi3J

For my hair, I use a conditioning product called Go Hair.
My mumโs friend brings it back from Thailand โ I cant tell you whatโs in it because all the ingredients are in a different language!
I loved being a redhead.
That was the first colour I dyed my hair when I was 10 years old. If anything, I think I wore more makeup when I had dark brown hair because Iโm naturally fair, so I would look a little washed out.
When I was younger I was obsessed with an Olsen Twinsโ movie where one of them rocked orange eye shadow.
I went straight out and bought orange eye shadow โ it looked horrendous on me, but I thought I was killing it.
I attended the MET Gala on behalf of Calvin Klein.
We kept my hair and make-up simple to match my dress. My mum emailed me saying she loved the look because I looked most like myself.
Iโve spent so many hours in make-up chairs at work.
One trick Iโve learnt is that every time I put on foundation, I dip a Q-tip in eye makeup remover and remove the foundation thatโs gotten on my lips so I donโt have to wear lipstick.
Jared Leto rocked a beautiful red lip in Suicide Squad.
And since I did to, it was pretty hilarious every time we had to kiss โ it was a mess. Thereโd be a 10-minute make-up reset.
I donโt really have an exercise or diet routine.
I donโt have the discipline to go to the gym all the time or eat really healthy, but I like playing sports. If I need to get in shape for a role, I have a personal trainer, and she kicks my ass.
How do I indulge?
Craft beers and a bloody good burger. I also love a fresh mani.

In 2005 Hilary Swankโs star was well and truly ascendant. She had just nabbed her second Oscar (Best Actress for Clint Eastwoodโs Million Dollar Baby) and had made a name for herself balancing out critically-acclaimed movies with popcorn-perfect box office fare.
Not bad for someone who was homeless when she first moved to Hollywood, and only made $3,000 for Boys Donโt Cry, the film that nabbed her her first Oscar. (A sum that, incidentally wasnโt even enough to qualify her for health insurance.)
But despite her status as one of Hollywoodโs new heavyhitters โ appearing on the cover of magazines, fronting campaigns for beauty brands โ in the mid-00s Swank was the victim of Hollywoodโs gender pay gap.
The two time Oscar winner and critical darling told Chelsea Handler yesterday that she was once offered $500,000 for a role in a movie opposite a man who was โhotโ but had no critical chops, for which he was being paid $10 million.
Your girl Hilary turned down the role and its paltry paycheque โ and rightly so โ and it was later offered to an upcoming actress who was paid only $50,000.
It seems no actress is immune from Hollywoodโs gender pay gapโฆ Even Hilary Swank.

To celebrate 75 wonderful years of M&Ms in our lives, Mars Chocolate have announced a brand new flavor โ and this one might be the most exciting yet.
Itโs caramel!
Ummโฆ WHY HAS IT TAKEN THEM SO LONG TO DO THIS?
The company announced the news via Facebook and itโs safe to say chocolate lovers everywhere are rejoicing (and liking and sharing some 42,000 times!)
Sadly however the news is set to leave chocolate lovers salivating until May 2017 when it will hit shelves. But the good news is, this one isnโt set to be a limited edition flavor, with caramel here to stay.
And now that weโve officially got chocolate on the brain, thereโs another important development that needs discussing.
Whittakers and Lewis Road Creamery in New Zealand have teamed up to create a little thing called chocolate butter, and youโre going to want to keep reading.
Basically itโs butter whipped with Whittakerโs 72 per cent dark Ghana chocolate โ and you use it anywhere you would normal butter: toast, croissants, pancakes, waffles, crumpets, cakes, cookies โ or, letโs be real: directly in your gob.
โThe French, who know a thing or two about butter, chocolate and pastries, have always had a soft spot for pain au chocolat and it got us thinking: โWhat if we combined the worldโs best butter and best chocolate in an easy-to-spread blend that would be good with almost anything,โ explained Lewis Road founder Peter Cullinane of how the idea came about.
โRight away we were off to the patisserie for more croissants and it was out with the blender to mix up the very first batch of chocolate and butter. As soon as we tasted it we knew we were onto something special.โ
The butter went on sale nationally in New Zealand today but no word yet on whether this will be headed to Australian storesโฆ

In a tragedy fraught with conflicting stories, these are the police-reported facts:
Nikki Francis-Coslovich, 2, was found dead at 5.15pm on August 25, 2015, discovered in the roof of her home in Victoriaโs Mildura.
The toddler was battered and bruised, and had lost one third of her bodyโs blood volume.
An autopsy showed she died between 11am and 2.30pm. After being abused, she may have suffered alone for an hour before dying of fatal injuries to her kidney, liver and skull.
Yesterday, the man charged with her murder, 32-year-old John Torney โ the ex-partner of Nickiโs mother, Peta-Ann Francis โ faced a 14-member Supreme Court jury.
According to the prosecution, Torney was left alone with Nikki at her home while Francis ran errands on the morning of August 25. There was a four-hour window in which he could have killed the child.
Francis returned home at 12.30pm; she and Torney smoked cannabis, had sex and fell asleep. On awaking at 2.40pm, Francis realised her daughter was missing. At 3.16pm she called triple-zero.
The defence, however, claims that Francis murdered her own daughter. Standing outside her toddlerโs bedroom on that fatal day, she allegedly told Torney: โIโve gone too far with Nikki, sheโs not breathing.โ
At the hearing, Torneyโs lawyer played a recording of Francisโs triple-zero call, in which she was unable to recall when she last saw her daughter.
