‘Ice Cream Killer’ Who Murdered Her Husband And Boyfriend To Serve Out Sentence In All-Male Prison

She kept the remains of their bodies in freezers at the bottom of her ice cream parlour.

Back in 2012, a woman was arrested for the murders of two men, whose remains she had kept in the freezers at the basement of her ice cream parlour. 

Estibaliz Carranza shot both men with the same gun in 2008, and chopped up their bodies with a chainsaw before hiding their remains in the parlour in Austria. She had even told neighbours that the sound of the gunshots was from a new ice cream machine she was using.

Her motivation to kill was because she desperate for a child, and the men failed to impregnate her. She made headlines for the strange case, and became known as the ‘ice cream killer’. 

Carranza has been in prison since 2012, and strangely, she found out that she was pregnant from a new lover the morning that she got arrested.

She eventually gave birth in a secure mental institute, and the son was sent to his father.

Now, The Sun reports that Carranza has been considered so dangerous that she will serve out the rest of her sentence in an all-male prison. The prison is home to 91 male inmates, and 13 more female inmates will soon join them after Carranza.

During her time in prison, she wrote a memoir called My Two Lives: The True Story of the Ice Lady, telling the story of how she killed and disposed of the men’s remains.

She also said in a 2014 interview that she regrets her actions.

“My actions have destroyed my life and dreams. I have a son and knowing how much he means to me has shown me how much I took away from two other mothers.

“I would only want one wish – and that would be to change what happened.”

When Abbey and Robert Ahern showed up to their 19-week obstetric scan, they felt relaxed. After all, they had two daughters already, so they knew the drill.

And, at first, the appointment seemed routine.

But midway through, the technician grew quiet and told the couple she needed to speak to a doctor. The doctor came in to perform his own scan, and then turned to them and said, “What I have to tell you isn’t easy, so it’s best if I just come out and say it.”

What he had to say would rock the Aherns’ life. It turned out that their baby suffered from anencephaly, which means that a portion of the brain and skull is missing. The condition, the doctor told the couple is “incompatible with life”.

“The words ‘incompatible with life’ just sucked the air right out of my lungs,” she told Good Housekeeping. “I knew what he was saying, but I couldn’t really apply it to us or our baby.”

Although 95 per cent of parents whose babies are diagnosed with anencephaly opt for a late-term abortion, the Aherns decided to carry the baby to term. Not only did they want to meet their daughter, but they decided to donate her organs. “From the first moment we hoped for a live birth, and planned a C-section. We wanted a few precious memories with our girl,” Abbey wrote on her blog. “No one tried to change our minds, but whenever I told certain family members and friends, they asked, “Are you sure this is what you want to do?”

But the Aherns were determined. And Annie, as they called her, was born on 26 June 2013.

“I remember holding her hands and pressing my face on hers and smelling her. I couldn’t kiss her enough,” writes Abbey on her blog Tomorrow Will Be Kinder.

Throughout the day, the Aherns parents visited Annie, as did Annie’s two older sisters, who were two and four. “We read her [children’s book] Heaven Is For Real. That was one of the best moments of my life.”

Then around 11pm that night, Annie began to gasp, and it was clear that she was fading. “Robert was so wonderful because she was both of ours, but he let me hold Annie.”

After 14 hours and 58 minutes, Annie died in her mother’s arms. Afterwards, the couple spent time with her, before she was taken into surgery for the organ donation procedures. 

“When it was time to go into surgery, they put me in a wheelchair and I held Annie close, pressing my face against hers. If I kissed her soft cheek a million times it still wouldn’t have been enough.”

For the first six months after Annie’s death, Abbey was hit with waves of grief. However, the knowledge that Annie’s organs helped save the lives of other newborn babies helped sustain her.

“Annie’s story is one of hope. I think it shows that in the midst of tagedy, there can be beauty. Annie was not ours to keep – her story was meant to be shared, and I intend to do so until the day I die.”

Brisbane-based beauty salon owner Nardya Miller, 25, is using her last days to achieve two incredibly important goals: one, to raise awareness of organ donation and two, to ensure she doesn’t leave her fiancé with debts.

Ms Miller has been given just one week to live after her body continually rejected a double lung transplant she had over two years ago. “Cystic fibrosis was a part of her life for 23 years and got her to needing a bilateral lung transplant,” her fiancé, Liam Fitzgerald, explained to the Sunshine Coast Daily.

“But after the first 11 months post surgery, being so perfect, the lungs started to fail, over and over again requiring treatments she never thought she would have to go through.”

“She went through rounds of plasmapheresis to try to stop donor-specific antibodies, but nothing worked.”

In the interview, Mr Fitzgerald stresses the vital importance of organ donation. “The only way people will ever have a second chance at life is to be an organ donor,” he says.

Before she was admitted to palliative care last week, Ms Miller had bought a house with Mr Fitzgerald and opened her own beauty salon.

“She didn’t want to stop working as she didn’t want to burden her fiancé with debt,” Ms Miller’s cousin, Tachae Douglas-Miller, says on a Go Fund Me page she has set up to make Ms Miller’s dream of not leaving her fiancé in debt a reality.

At time of writing $26,095 had been raised by 878 people in seven days – above and beyond the family’s initial $10k target.

“We are overwhelmed with the generosity from you all!” Douglas-Miller has posted.

Ms Miller has charted her experience on social media and posted the below after being admitted to palliative care.

“Things do not always turn out how you plan in life, there are some really huge things that I will never have, places I’ll never go and things I’ll never live to see,” she writes.

“All I wish is to be remembered as the girl who brightened your day at least once. And please I beg you to live your life to absolute fullest.”

Despite being an outspoken Hillary Clinton supporter during the 2016 US presidential election – and being one of her primary pantsuit designers – rumours are rife that it is none other than Ralph Lauren who will design a gown for Melania Trump to wear during this week’s inauguration.

WWD daily are reporting that Lauren is currently designing a gown for the First Lady to wear when her husband Donald Trump is officially sworn in as the President of the United States.

It won’t be the first time Melania has worn the US designer, making headlines in a white jumpsuit on election night in November 2016 – however she reportedly purchased this piece herself at the label’s New York boutique.

With some 38 million viewers tuning in to watch President Obama’s inauguration in 2009, whichever designer the former Slovenian model does choose to wear will ultimately gain unprecedented publicity, for better or worse remains to be seen.

While many First Ladies before her have also garnered major attention for their wardrobe, none have been quite so shrouded in controversy and public scrutiny as Melania’s – largely due to her husband’s polarising presidential campaign.

So much so that she’s found herself in the middle of a fashion industry stand-off between designers who will – and those who most definitely will not – dress the incoming First Lady.

A number of high-profile designers including Tom Ford and Marc Jacobs have publicly declared they will not dress the First Lady due to her husband’s policies.

“I have no interest whatsoever in dressing Melania Trump,” says Jacobs. “Personally, I’d rather put my energy into helping out those who will be hurt by [Donald] Trump and his supporters.”

While many designers have remained quiet, a handful of designers have however publicly declared they will support the First Lady including Diane Von Furstenberg and Tommy Hilfiger.

“Any first lady should be respected like any first lady,” Von Furstenberg said. “If you are first lady, you represent America.”

“Any designer should be proud to dress her,” adds Hilfiger.

Regardless of the designer she chooses, we can’t wait to see if Melania follows suit with another symbolic sartorial statement (coincidental or not) as she did with her now infamous pussy-bow blouse and election night pantsuit…

“Colour freshen up today after holiday hair,” Bickmore captions her post. “Added some highlights through the bottom and got rid of the greys!”

The quest to cover errant grey hairs is one many women will be familiar with, but few like to talk about. Kudos to Bickmore for bringing it out in the open. “I started going grey in my mid-20s but now it’s an all-out assault!” she writes. “Or maybe it’s just that I can see them now with brown hair.”

She adds: “Maybe I will just go with it one day and go fully grey. How liberating would that be ladies?”

Mitch Monaghan knows his coffee. As Australia’s Nespresso coffee ambassador, staying caffeinated is part of his job description. We quizzed him on just what it takes to make the perfect coffee yourself, how to nail your takeaway order and – most importantly – his tricks for the ultimate iced coffee and espresso martini.

 

What kind of milk makes the perfect coffee?

Milk choice is very personal and comes down to preference in taste, texture and nutrition. I would suggest full cream milk for coffee drinkers who enjoy a rich, creamy cappuccino, as the high protein helps to create a velvety and frothy coffee. Skim milk also produces that foamy cup without the intense creaminess, while soy or almond milk drinkers may find that a latte or flat white are better options as they don’t produce as much froth.

What coffee order makes you cringe?

The greatest benefit of coffee is the ability to make it suit any individual’s preference in coffee flavour, milk choice, levels or temperature. However, I have been asked for a half latte, half flat white before, and I’m still trying to figure out what that is!

Can you share your tips for making a café-level coffee at home?

The coffee-to-milk-and-foam ratio is key to bringing that café experience home. Once you have that, all you need is the right machine. The Creatista is the first Nespresso machine that allows users to choose their preferred milk texture and temperature to create silky smooth milk and free-pour latte art.

To impress your guests at home with café quality coffee my best tips include using high quality, consistent coffee extraction, which helps to ensure consistency in your latte art pouring and the right crema in the end-cup. Present the coffee with a saucer, sugar, stirrer and even a bite-sized treat on the side. It makes the presentation of the simplest things seem luxurious.

What’s the next big coffee trend going to be?

I see coffee over ice as the next big coffee trend in Australia. There is nothing more satisfying than a refreshing iced coffee, especially in summer. You can make a quick and simple Nespresso iced coffee at home, which is the perfect summer afternoon pick-me-up, whether it’s with a full bodied Ristretto, creamy Vanilio, smooth Caramelito or my personal favourite a velvety Arpeggio.

My preferred iced coffee recipe at the moment is a raspberry chocolate Arpeggio, the perfect afternoon treat!

Raspberry Chocolate Arpeggio

90g ice cubes (3 ice cubes)

40ml Arpeggio coffee/capsule

90ml cold milk froth

20ml chocolate sauce

Callier chocolate powder

Freeze-dried raspberries

Mix the hot espresso with chocolate sauce until combined and then pour over top of ice. Garnish with Callier chocolate powder and crushed freeze-dried raspberries.

What’s the secret to the perfect espresso martini?

It’s no secret, like any coffee, the key to producing the perfect cup is using quality and fresh ingredients. The perfect espresso martini is no different. I would encourage using freshly extracted Nespresso coffee every time when creating an espresso martini. The coffee will cool as soon as it falls on ice while maintaining its full-bodied flavour.

One extra step that I find really brings a beautiful crema on top of the martini is a dry shake. After you have shaken all ingredients over ice, strain the cocktail in to a second shaker without ice and shake again. This will thicken the crema on top to give it a high quality finish.

The Mother of Angelina Jolie’s Adopted Daughter Makes Plea For Access

In July 2005, Angelina Jolie adopted her first daughter, Zahara Jolie-Pitt, in Ethiopia when she was only 6-months-old. However, 12 years later, Zahara’s biological mother has requested to reconnect with her daughter. 

Speaking to the DailyMail, Mentewab Dawit Lebiso explained that she is eager to be a part of Zahara’s life. 

“I just want her to know that I am alive and here and long to be able to speak with her,” 31-year-old Lebiso said. “I do not want my daughter back but just to be in contact with her and be able to call her up and talk with her.”

While Lebiso finds it difficult to admit that The Hollywood actress has given her daughter an amazing life, it has not stopped her longing to have some form of a relationship with the 12-year-old.

“Angelina has been more of a mother to her than I have ever been,” she said. “She has been with her since she was a baby, but that does not mean I do not miss her. I miss her all the time. I think about her every day and long to hear her voice or see her face. I know when she has a birthday, but I am sad because I can’t celebrate it with her. I would so much want to celebrate with her on her birthday and other special days.”

Lebiso’s request comes in the midst of Jolie and Brad Pitt’s divorce and custody battle over Zahara, 12, and their other five children, Maddox Jolie-Pitt, 15, Pax Jolie-Pitt, 13, Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, 10, Knox Jolie-Pitt, 8, and Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, 8.

The former couple currently have a voluntary temporary custody agreement in place—granting Pitt supervised visitation rights as Jolie holds primary physical custody—while they’re still working out the official custody arrangement, which has become highly publicised of late.

Following Jolie’s file for divorce, federal and local authorities investigated allegations that the actor was abusive toward Maddox on a private flight. The Allied actor was later cleared of any wrongdoing.

Last week, Pitt and Jolie released their first joint statement together since their divorce, announcing that the two be moving forward in a private forum.

Erdem is one of the Duchess’ go-to labels, taking to the London-based designer on a number of occasions.

Kate was joined at the event by Prince William and Prince Harry to outline their plans for their Heads Together foundation.

“The challenge that so many people have is not knowing how to take that first step of reaching out to another person for help,” Kate said during a speech.

“Admitting that they are not coping.  Fear, or reticence, or a sense of not wanting to burden another, means that people suffer in silence – allowing the problem to grow larger and larger unchecked. 

“William, Harry and I have been very privileged to witness in the course of our work countless examples of simple conversations that have changed lives, which were the first step on a path to recovery,” she continued.

“Just last week at the Anna Freud Centre, I heard from one mother how talking to a support worker was – in her words – like medicine.  Simply by having someone there to have a conversation with helped her immensely.”

Newlywed Margot Robbie is back at work and has been spotted on the set of her new film, I Tonya.

The actress was a far cry from her usual glamorous self, dressed in character as the infamous Olympic figure skater Tonya Harding.

Sporting a classic 90s look in high-waisted jeans, a blue sweater and a frizzy blonde wig, Margot also appeared to be sporting facial prosthetics to get her further into the character.

The movie will follow Harding as she trains for the 1994 winter Olympics before the infamous attack on rival skater Nancy Kerrigan.

Kerrigan was attacked by a hitman hired by Harding’s ex-husband Jeff Gillooly after a training session, but he failed to break her leg and she went on to win silver in the Olympics while Harding placed 8th.

Gilloy took a plea bargain against Harding and was released from prison after just one year. Harding pleaded guilty to hindering the prosecution and received three years probation, 500 hours community service, a $US160,000 fine and a lifetime ban from the sport.

I, Tonya is scheduled to hit cinemas in 2018 and also stars Sebastian Stan and Allison Janney – the role of Nancy Kerrigan is yet to be confirmed.

The comedians took to Instagram to share the news.



“While we work on a TV show for the next little while, our radio history will be revisited for your drive home,” they wrote. “10 Years In 10 Weeks will start on today’s show, looking back at 2007.”

The duo announced last December that 2017 would be the last year of their radio show.

“This has been the first time we’ve known for sure what we want to do. So we wanted to let our listeners know so they can come on the ride together and it can be a really fun celebratory year and we can go out with a bang.”



Blake added it felt right “going out on a high.”



“We’ve never loved doing radio as much as we love doing it now. That’s a perfect time to end — we’re not ending tomorrow, we’ve still got another full year, we can really savour it,” he added.

It’s been a while since we heard anything truly Goopy from Gwyneth – but now the star has come out with the most outrageous idea we’ve had from her yet.

The concept? Storing jade or rose quartz eggs in your – ahem – vagina. The reason? Better sex, better energy, better hormones. The proof? ….

Basically, we’re called to do it because Gwyn’s friend/beauty guru/actress Shiva Rose say so. And because it’s “the strictly guarded secret of Chinese royalty in antiquity – queens and concubines used them to stay in shape for emperors,” according to Shiva’s interview on Goop. In 2017, if you’re not basing your health practices on ancient concubines, you’re doing life wrong.

Shiva explains: “Jade eggs can help cultivate sexual energy, increase orgasm, balance the cycle, stimulate key reflexology around vaginal walls, tighten and tone, prevent uterine prolapse, increase control of the whole perineum and bladder, develop and clear chi pathways in the body, intensify feminine energy and invigorate our life force.”

Shiva’s qualifications aren’t covered in the Goop article, although she did once attend “a beautiful women’s forest gathering in northern California – we did a jade egg ceremony out under the redwoods,” – so you can’t say she’s not experienced.

Shiva also practices the art of inserting crystal eggs where – most people would argue – crystal eggs do not belong on a daily basis, and can personally report all the above benefits. However, she says it takes around a month of daily use to feel any results.

She welcomed her first child, Shai Alexander, with fiancé Maksim Chmerkovskiy on January 4 in NYC, and she took to Instagram recently to share this pic.

She joins Aussie mum Lacey Barratt, who has shared the raw honesty of her own body after birth.

The fact that this images has been shared and liked and celebrated across social media is very good news because it shows the the tide is turning away from pressure to be back to pre-baby body. It’s an enormously important step helping mummies embrace their new body, the changes and the challenges. Parenthood is about earning the scars, working with the new and not looking back (well maybe, but in a happy-to-be-me misty-eyed kind of a way).

Celebrities like Chrissy Teigen have also talked honestly about the unrealistic ‘post-baby’ bodies you see in the spotlight.

Speaking to Today, Chrissy said that celebs only have those bodies because of their lifestyle and the enormous amount of help they get. 

“Anyone in the public eye, we have all the help we could ever need to be able to shed everything,” she says. “We have nutritionists, we have dieticians, we have trainers, we have our own schedules, we have nannies. We have people who make it possible for us to get back into shape.”

While you might think that unique baby names are due to globalisation and the influence of pop culture (like TV shows for example), a new study suggests that it is actually tied to something a lot less exciting: the economy.

Psychologists recently studied the reasons why parents chose certain baby names and found that a desire to stand out surges in tough times. This matched up when looking at the economy – uncommon baby names rose during periods of financial crisis. The looked at 358 million baby names in the US from 2004 until now, and looked at the reasons why parents chose certain names.

Between 2004 and 2006, 66% of boys and 76% of girls had a name that wasn’t one of the 50 most common names of that time period. But this changed in 2011-2015, where 72% of boys and 79% of girls had names that were not in the top 50 most popular.

The authors of the study, published in the Journal of Applied Social Psychology, found that parents’ motivations changed depending on the economic climate. Parents were “less likely to give their children common names during the years of the Great Recession compared to the years immediately before it,” they wrote.

The idea behind this is that a unique name might help the child stand out in a competitive environment.

Interestingly, researcher Jean Twenge told TIME that there used to be a baby name ‘gender gap’ when it came to this trend. But things are changing.

“Boys are still more likely to get a common name than girls,” Twenge says. “But parents are now more willing to give boys unique names as well.”

Looks like we’ll see many more unique names in the future!

Newlywed Margot Robbie is back at work and has been spotted on the set of her new film, I Tonya.

The actress was looking a far cry from her usual glamorous self, dressed in character as the infamous Olympic figure skater Tonya Harding.

Sporting a classic 90s look in high-waisted jeans, a blue sweater and a frizzy blonde wig, Margot also appeared to be sporting facial prosthetics to get her further into the character.

The movie will follow Harding as she trains for the 1994 winter Olympics before the infamous attack on rival skater Nancy Kerrigan.

Kerrigan was attacked by a hitman hired by Harding’s ex-husband Jeff Gillooly after a training session, but he failed to break her leg and she went on to win silver in the Olympics while Harding placed 8th.

Gilloy took a plea bargain against Harding and was released from prison after just one year. Harding pleaded guilty to hindering the prosecution and received three years probation, 500 hours community service, a $US160,000 fine and a lifetime ban from the sport.

I, Tonya is scheduled to hit cinemas in 2018 and also stars Sebastian Stan and Allison Janney – the role of Nancy Kerrigan is yet to be confirmed.

Man convicted for removing condom during sex with Tinder date

In a landmark ruling in Lausanne, Switzerland, an unnamed man has been convicted of rape after removing a condom during otherwise consensual sex.

The 47-year-old French man and his partner met on Tinder in June 2015, according to Swiss news agency RTS.  He initially wore a condom during sex but took it off part way through without her realising, prompting the woman to contact police.


The case is similar to the charges leveled against Wikileaks founder Julian Assange who is wanted in connection to an alleged sexual assault in Sweden where a woman has said he also had sex without a condom and without her consent. Assange, however, is further alleged to have initiated the sexual activity while the woman was asleep.

Assange has denied the allegations and sought ongoing refuge from extradition in the Ecuadorian embassy in London.

In Australia, as in both Sweden and Switzerland and elsewhere in Europe, there’s no specific law that refers to the removal of a condom as a form of rape. However that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be prosecuted here, if the act could be proven in court. Queensland University of Technology senior lecturer in criminal law Nigel Stobbs told the Brisbane Times in 2010, when the Assange case first made headlines, that “there’s no express mention of it in the criminal code but it relates to what constitutes consent,” and so in theory it could count as assault.

But the burden, as always, would be on the woman to prove that the act had happened, and then a jury would need to be persuaded that the act was, in fact, enough of a breach of consent to prosecute.

An argument that a defence attorney might put forward is one that is popular in comments sections on the topic: that if men can be prosecuted for deceiving a woman about a condom, a woman should be able to be prosecuted if she lies to a sexual partner about taking the pill or other contraception.

The French man was sentenced to a 12 month suspended sentence.

Teenage Girl Miraculously Survives Car Crash By Hanging From A Tree And Swimming Through Freezing Water

A 19-year-old girl tragically died after her car spun off a highway into a creek, while her friend miraculously escaped by grabbing onto a tree for 12 hours and swimming through the creek’s freezing water the next day.

East Bay Times reports that Natalie Griffin was in shock after surviving the ordeal, however is devastated by the loss of her friend. She declined an interview with East Bay Times, however her cousin Monica Keyser relayed Natalie’s account of the events.

“It’s hard to rejoice in Natalie being alive when everyone is grieving the loss of Jenna,” Keyser said. “The story is surreal, I can’t imagine anyone else being as strong as her through the night. It’s definitely heroic. I’m so thankful she’s alive. She was so brave.”

After the car had landed in the creek off a Californian highway, water began to fill up fast, and the girls looked for an escape. They broke the windshield, however this just let in more water. 

“She started to panic and told herself to calm down. That’s when she noticed a broken window in the back and showed Jenna. She told her to follow her,” Keyser said. “When she surfaced, she wasn’t sure if she had made it out.”

When Natalie swum out, she got swept down the stream and clung on to a partially submerged tree. She climbed up the branches and draped her jacket over her head to protect her from the elements, staying awake and stretching to keep warm.

“She said she stayed really calm. She was hallucinating and hearing Jenna talking, telling her she was going to be OK. There were points where she thought Jenna was with her. She remembers thinking they found a phone,” Keyser said.

In the morning, when the sun rose, Natalie swan through the freezing water and climbed up the hill to the highway to get help. She had lost a shoe on the way and was dripping wet so was quickly spotted and picked up by a passing driver. She called her mother immediately. 

A member of the Little Lake Volunteer Fire Department Swift Water Rescue Team swam to the sunken car to confirm if her friend Jenna had made it out, and unfortunately she hadn’t.

“She was beautiful, sweet and kind, very bubbly and always smiling. She was very close to her mother. We are grieving for her family,” Keyser said.

A GoFundMe page has been created to raise funds for the cost of Jenna’s funeral.

WA Woman Who Lost Her Baby To SIDS Loses Partner In Home Invasion

A woman who tragically lost her baby boy to SIDS two years ago has been dealt another devastating blow after her partner was allegedly stabbed to death during a violent home invasion.

Scott Martin, 40, and Erelle Mason, 32, were woken by an armed intruder in their Halls Head home at around 2am on Saturday.

According to The West Australian, a scuffle broke out between Mr Martin and the intruder who stabbed him twice with two knives. The intruder then allegedly attacked Ms Mason before she broke free and managed to escape and find help.  

Damien Eric Maxfield, 32, was arrested at the scene and has been charged with murder and attempted murder. Police are still investigating how he gained entry to the apartment.

The tragedy comes just two years after the couple lost their three-week-old son Mason Martin to SIDS.

The couple are believed to have recently started trying for another child.

“She is a girl who has really had it tough and it just breaks our hearts to see her have to go through this again,” Ms Mason’s stepfather, Graham Hood, tells The West.

“They had both been a mess since (Mason’s death) and … with this now coming on top of that, it is beyond the pale.

It is just lucky that she found the strength to get away (from her attacker).

“There were three or four times that she said she felt herself slipping away, but she managed to find the strength within herself to fight back.”

Ms Mason’s family have set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for medical costs and to help get her get back on her feet.

Congratulations are in order for Katherine Heigl who has given birth a baby boy.

This is the first son for Heigl, 38, and husband Josh Kelley.

The baby boy now joins daughters Naleigh and Adalaide, whom they adopted in 2009 and 2012, respectively.

Heigl announced the news of her first pregnancy in June 2016.

“It was totally unexpected but thrilling,” Heigl, 37, wrote on her blog. “The whole pregnancy thing is new to me but the thrill of having a baby is not.”

Heigl and singer Kelley, 36, who met in 2005 and tied the knot in December 2007, celebrated their nature-themed baby shower.

The Grey’s Anatomy star shared details of the event on her blog.

“I headed straight to Pinterest to cultivate a look for the shower that spoke to not only the holidays, but also our mountain home in Utah where the baby will be born,” Heigl, 38, wrote in a post about the sweet event.

“I loved that my mum involved me and that I got to contribute my ideas. I’m kind of a control freak on occasion … okay, more often than not, so getting to have a voice when it came to the shower was pretty awesome for me!”

Jacqui Lambie Tells The Emotional Story Of Her Son’s Ice Addiction On The Project

And how he got on the road to recovery.

Senator for Tasmania Jacqui Lambie made headlines in 2015 for her speech in parliament about the devastating effect of ice, and the limited options parents have to help children who are affected. She spoke about her son, who was an addict, explaining that she was not able to get an involuntary detox for him despite the drug taking over his life and free will.

Now, she has moved viewers of The Project, telling the emotional story of his journey to recovery, and how they were able to reconnect after the devastating effect his addiction had on their family.

The Project followed their story on holiday in Vietnam, interviewing both Jacqui and her son Dylan, who is now 22.

Dylan opened up about his history of drugs. He discovered marijuana when he was about 12, got into speed when he was 15, and then when he was 17 he started taking ice. Eventually he became addicted to the drug, and it began to take over his life.

“Sometimes I’d be on it for a couple of weeks straight,” he told The Project. “Like I wouldn’t sleep for eight days.”

Jacqui was a single mother, and decided that it was time for Dylan to leave when the drug took over. He became homeless, and slept on the streets. It was at this time that she made her groundbreaking speech about the need for better rehabilitation processes for ice addicts.

While Dylan was unhappy with the media attention around his life, the destruction of his relationships with his family and friends and sleeping rough on the streets finally made him decide to go to rehab.

“Sometimes it takes you to get to that point in your life where you’ve got to go, that’s it, I’m just not doing this anymore,” Jacqui said of the situation. “If that’s what helped him to make the decision to go into rehab, so be it.”

Within eight weeks of rehab, Dylan said it was the cleanest he’d ever been and things started looking up. After 12 months of rehab, he is now totally clean, and he and Jacqui have reconnected.

Though Lambie is divisive on many issues including immigration, many people tweeted their support for her story and her son’s recovery.

At the end of the day, Lambie said, “I think the friendship, and the mother and son bond is much bigger than the drug itself.”

This Awesome New Hashtag Is Going Viral For All The Right Reasons

It’s the time of year when we’re inundated with messages about getting fit and losing weight. And while we’re all about trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle at any weight, sometimes the messages can be just plain overwhelming.

Enter our new favourite body campaign of 2017 so far: #GainingWeightIsCool, which is all about reclaiming those new years resolutions and celebrating healthy bodies.

The hashtag was started by body-positive social media star Arianna Dantone when she Tweeted a photo on New Years Day of herself at the gym.

“Gaining weight is cool,” she captioned the pic, before encouraging others to share what #GainingWeightIsCool means to them.

The hashtag has since been used over 10,000 times on Instagram alone, sparking women to share their own inspirational journeys of weight transformation, many of whom who suffered from eating disorders.

“I did not expect this at all but it’s truly brought me so much happiness to see it take off the way it has,” the 21-year-old told Teen Vogue.

“The hashtag to me means loving yourself at all stages and appreciating your body for what it can do rather than just what it looks like. It means going against society’s standards and loving yourself through it all. It makes my heart happy to see so many people — different genders, ages, backgrounds — joining in and embracing themselves.

“The value and power of this cannot be overstated,” therapist Alyssa Mass, who specializes in eating disorders, tells the publication.

“As a clinician, these are the types of examples I love bringing to clients struggling with these concepts — whether an eating disorder or just general body dissatisfaction. [Like], ‘hey, you’re not alone. Others have been there and others have come out the other side.'”

JonBoy specialises in the discreet, intricate designs currently trending, and his handiwork on Hadid is a prime example. Each of Hadid’s ankles is now adorned with a single wing:

Internet speculation is divided as to what the feathered symbols mean: is it a) a reference to Bella Hadid’s status as a Victoria’s Secret Angel, or is she b) reacting to the news of former flame The Weeknd dating Selena Gomez?

Fun fact: long before Meghan Markle met her now fiancé Prince Harry, she jetted to London frequently to visit another very important person in her life: skin guru Nicola Joss.

Markle has been seeing Joss for years, as have the glowing visages of Cate Blanchett, Alicia Keys, Jennifer Lopez and Kate Moss. Why? Joss’ secret weapon is her wicked way with facial massage, which she says lifts the face, boosts radiance and counteracts various signs of ageing.

“Facials are super-important to Meghan, and then her daily at-home maintenance makes sure she has the best ever skin,” Joss tells US Vogue, before revealing aforementioned at-home maintenance in all its glorious detail.

Seeing that Markle stole Prince Harry from all of us, so it’s only fair that we steal her skincare secrets, right? Here we go:

Under Joss’s regimen, Markle is required to massage her face three times a day – morning, early evening and last thing at night. In the morning, she applies a facial cleansing oil, “deeply massaging the skin outwards and upwards to awaken the facial muscles and open the face,” according to Joss.

In the PM, she ups the ante, with a double cleanse (massage included), toner, serums and moisturiser all applied in the early evening. Then just before bed, Markle is tasked with a four-minute facial massage using facial oil, which targets all areas of the face, including jaw line, under cheekbones and tension points.

More recently, Joss has divulged elements of Markle’s pre-wedding routine to marie claire US – and surprise, surprise, facial massage is a major component. “You want to start getting regular massages from the beginning of your skincare journey, since it not only helps remove the tension in the face, but it also really helps improve the texture of when you massage with a good, clean facial oil,” she says.

On top of her musical career, Ricki-Lee Coulter has featured on our screens as presenter of season six and seven of Australian Idol, was a mentor to Seal’s team in the first season of The Voice and came third on Dancing with the Stars in 2014.

Winner of season three, Kate DeAraugo had her 15 minutes of fame when she scored two hit singles and became a member of the Young Divas.

 

After battling personal issues, DeAraugo stepped away from music and signed a deal with Jenny Craig. After undertaking liposuction and experiencing more health problems, she withdrew her partnership. Later she was a contestant on celebrity weight loss program Excess Baggage.

 

In May 2015, she re-entered the music world with single “Shut Your Mouth”, but her musical return was fleeting. Only a month later it was revealed DeAraugo was battling an ice addiction after she was charged with driving under the influence.

Since then, Mauboy has collaborated with international artists like Flo Rida, Snoop Dogg, Ludacris, Jay Sean, Pitbull and toured as support acts for Beyonce and Chris Brown’s respective Australian concerts. She’s also performed for Oprah Winfrey and Barack Obama during their visits down under.

 

Mauboy has also acted n a number prominent Australian films like Bran Nue Dae and The Sapphires.

Coronor Makes Devastating Discovery During Inquest Into Baby’s Death

Questions have been raised over the death of a five-month-old baby who passed away in Alice Springs in 2012 due to a “traumatic head injury”.

Michael Smedley reportedly sustained the injury while in the care of his 16-year-old mother’s friends, Oliver Deighton and Tamara Cole.

When his mother returned to collect him, the baby was found limp and not breathing. Paramedics were called and performed CPR and he was rushed to hospital but he was pronounced dead that same day.

  

During the inquest into Michael’s death, Northern Territory coroner Greg Cavanagh found that his injuries are consistent with being  “shaken vigorously” and also noted that he had severe bruising as well as anal injuries with blood found in his nappy, reports News.com.au.

The inquest also heard from a forensic scientist who identified sperm on the child’s anus, but says the sample deteriorated and was not able to be tested for DNA. 

Deighton, who was questioned but never charged by police at the time of Michael’s death, changed his initial statement claiming he caught Michael as he wriggled off a change table, reports News.com.au.

Deighton however refused to answer a number of questions at the inquest on grounds it may incriminate him in the death, reports Courier Mail. 

“(The fall and catch) would be too brief and the kind of acceleration/deceleration force over that very short period of a fall, wouldn’t have been enough to produce these changes,” Forensic neuropathologist Dr Tony Tannenberg.

The case has now been referred back to police and an investigation recommenced. No charges have yet been laid.

Bachelor star Alex Nation has opened up about the harsh criticism she has faced over the past few months over the way she parents her son, Elijah, 6.

The 25-year-old reality star, posted a gorgeous image on Instagram with her son, whom she welcomed when she was 18.  

“‘Good night Mumma, you’re the best mum ever.’ This is what Elijah says to me almost every night before he goes to sleep,” she began the post.

“Being a parent is tough. Sometimes it’s pure exhaustion and sometimes it’s pure elation. I’m not sure that there is an in-between, I’m personally yet to find it.

“As mothers/parents, we can often be too hard on ourselves. We put this unrealistic expectation of ourselves to be the “perfect parent”. Truthfully, there is no such thing.

“We are human, we make mistakes. But mistakes should be embraced because that is how we grow. We learn from our mistakes and keep on keepin’ on.” 

Nation faced criticism after she appeared on – and won –  last year’s series of The Bachelor, with many questioning her decision to leave her son for so long to go on a reality TV show.

“It’s no secret that I have been widely criticised for how I parent my son. People going as far as saying that I’ve neglected him and even further, saying he’s better off without me.

“It’s interesting isn’t it, how people can feel so entitled to press such an opinion on to others- without even knowing the person personally.”

It seems like almost every day there’s another photo floating around the internet with some sort of optical illusion that makes us stop and go, huh?

And today’s edition stars none other than Kendall Jenner.

A photo taken at a Golden Globes after party last week shows Jenner sitting and enjoying the festivities beside sister Kylie and bestie Hailey Baldwin. Looks normal enough, right. 

Well on closer inspection fans began to notice there’s something missing in the pic – Kendall’s leg.

“Where is Kendall’s other leg,” wrote one fan, while another added: “There are a weird amount of legs in this photo.🙄🤔😬”

Thankfully though this fan seemed to have worked it out: “Kendall’s leg is in the dress and her legs are crossed! Her other leg is under the one that is showing 😂 it’s just under the fabric lollll”.

So it seems Kendall’s other leg was just under the fabric of her Paule Ka gown – phew.

A female dance teacher has been arrested after she was allegedly caught having sex with her 15-year-old student by the girls step father.

Lauren Anne DeBenedetta, 38, who owns Haven Dance Studio with her husband, has been charged with two counts of lewd and lascivious battery on a minor after she was reportedly found naked in the girls bedroom on December 19.

The man came home early to check on his stepdaughter who had been home sick from school to find DeBenedetta car in the driveway, reports NBC-2. 

A phone, which the teens says the teacher gave her so they could communicate in secret, reportedly has messages saying “I love you,” and was confiscated by authorities.

DeBenedetta, a New York University graduate, founded the dance studio in 2013. Her husband and co-owner has since emailed students and families advising them that the studio was closing immediately.

Police are currently investigating whether DeBenedetta was also involved with other students.

This 18-Year-Old Girl Survived Ovarian Cancer And Shared Her Incredible Story

18-year-old Ruby McKinnon was just 17 when she woke up to discover her belly had swollen the size of a rockmelon.

Panicking, the Canadian teenager rushed to her mum and wondered if she could be pregnant.

“I remember just staring at my belly,” Ruby told news.com.au.

“It had gone from being flat the night before to this huge, solid bump a few hours later.

“It was so big, I looked 5 months pregnant. I started freaking out before calling out to my mum, who also thought I was pregnant.”

When she rushed to a clinic to take a pregnancy test, it came back negative, leaving her and her mother puzzled.

After a few days, the bump continued to grow, and she rushed to the hospital. She was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer.

Ruby recently shared her story as a Reddit ‘Ask Me Anything’ and got questions as diverse as asking how her boyfriend dealt with her in the situation, and how her perspective of life changed since having cancer.

One of the scariest parts of her story was that she didn’t experience any symptoms until her stomach ‘popped’ out with the tumour. She went to the hospital within four days of noticing it and had already developed stage 3 ovarian cancer.

It took a month until doctors could perform surgery on the tumour, by which time it had grown exponentially. They had to cut up her stomach a lot further than she expected, leaving a scar which she shared in a photo on Reddit.

She struggled through chemo during her senior year of high school, and on Reddit she described getting treatment as feeling like she was ‘dying’.

“I would just lay in bed, motionless, feeling like I was absolutely going to die. In those times, I really wanted to.”

But Ruby’s story has a happy ending. Recalling the moment that she was cancer-free, she wrote that it was all very emotional.

“I found out when I was in a cafe with my Creative Writing class. It was almost Christmas break, so our teacher took us for a walk to get hot chocolate. My mom texted me saying they had just called her with the results and I was cancer free. I remember running up to my boyfriend, who was talking with my teacher, and hugging him and crying. Then we went back to school and I think my teacher told our principal (an amazing man) because he ran into the classroom and hugged me. He was crying as well. And then the whole class clapped and cheered for me. It was so emotional!”

Ruby told news.com.au that the experience of sharing her story on Reddit had mostly been positive. She said that she decided to share it because some people going through cancer feel that no one understands what they are going through.

“My friends and family were great,” she said.

“But they didn’t know what to say or how to react, which was OK because at the time I didn’t know what to say or how to react either.

“I didn’t feel like I had anyone who understood, and so I wanted to be able to offer that to people. But I didn’t expect the response I got.”

Here are the ovarian cancer symptoms to be aware of:

  • Unexplained weight gain or weight loss.
  • Bleeding in-between periods or after menopause.
  • Back pain.
  • Indigestion or nausea.
  • Excessive fatigue.
  • Pain during intercourse.
  • Changes in your bowel habits.

Sitting down with CBS’s 60 Minutes in the US, he discusses his eight years in the top job as well as the more personal side of living with and raising his family in the White House and under the intense spotlight. 

“Michelle never fully took to the scrutiny. I mean, she’s thrived as a first lady, but it’s not her preference,” he revealed of wife Michelle.

“And so she was the hardest sell. And she never fully embraced being in the public spotlight, which is ironic, given how good she is.

“But having said that, she would acknowledge and I certainly feel that we just have a lot of memories here. You know, our kids grew up here. Some of our best friends have been made here in this place. There have been moments that were highlights for us that are going be hard to duplicate.”

“I think I’ve said this story before,” he recalled. “You know, she used to say to our friends, ‘Barack’s exactly the kind of guy I want to be president. I just wish he didn’t want to do it when I was married to him.’”

As for his daughters, Sasha and Malia, Obama says “they’re ready to go.”

“The girls, obviously, you know, they are now of an age in which the constraints of Secret Service and bubbles and all that stuff has gotten pretty old.”

And what’s next for the Obamas? The Presdient says he’s looking forward to “getting out of the bubble.”

“I’m going to try to get some sleep and do a little puttering because I haven’t had a lot of chance to reflect and absorb all this. I do not expect to be behind a desk a lot.

The family plan to remain in Washington whilst Sasha,15, completes high school, moving to a $6m home, which for them will surely seem like quite the downsize.

When it comes to influencers, Hollywood has more per square mile than anywhere else in the world. 

From the fashion we wear, the beauty regimes we follow, the health kicks we trial and more, we’re often inspired by the A-list club who grace our screens and our airwaves.

But while they’re often front of the crowd when it comes to setting trends, it turns out Hollywood is totally out of step when it comes to possibly the most important arena of all: politics.

As Donald Trump prepares for his presidential inauguration ceremony he’s being turned down left and right by celebrities approached to appear on stage.

Staunch republican Caitlyn Jenner has signed up as has country music star Toby Ketih but for now they are pretty lonely faces. It’s a far cry from Barack Obama’s inauguration where music legends including Beyonce, Bruce Springsteen and Aretha Franklin turned up to entertain their incoming leader while Denzel Washington and Tom Hanks were amongst several movie star guest speakers.

It also pales into comparison with the number of celebrities who will be protesting against the newly sworn in president with stars including Amy Schumer, Chelsea Handler and Scarlett Johannson joining the expected 220,000 people in the Women’s March on Washington the following day.

But here’s the thing: according to Trump, he doesn’t want them there anyway.

“The so-called ‘A’ list celebrities are all wanting tix to the inauguration, but look what they did for Hillary, NOTHING. I want the PEOPLE!”, he tweeted last week.

At the end of the day, it’s the people who elected Trump into this position.

And, whether these outspoken stars like it or not, Trump is tapping into the same views many of those people share.

By speaking up so publicly and often – whether it’s Meryl Streep lambasting Trump in her Golden Globes acceptance speech or Katy Perry recording a PSA about the president’s plan to ban Muslims – not only do celebrities run the risk of alienating their own audience (for these people also pay to see their movies and to listen to their music), but they can engender sympathy for the man about to become the leader of the free world.

They can see his more unpopular views gain more support amongst that silent majority.

Far worse, they could see that silent majority even more afraid to speak up and engage in what could prove to be an important and healthy debate as it’s seen to be deeply unfashionable to agree with those same views.

It’s a similar situation here in Australia as high-profile media stars line up to lambast Pauline Hanson and her supporters. It’s popular to mock the former One Nation leader and her proposed changes to parliament.

But has it stopped her increasing her followers? Not at all – some may say the reverse has happened.

 Entertainment and the arts are invaluable when it comes to questioning the world we live in. It’s key to highlighting injustice, inequality and making sure we are aware of what’s happening in all areas of life, in which politics play a huge part.

But what art is not supposed to do is TELL us how to think and feel. That’s a process we need to make on our own and it’s one which too many celebrities are trying to cut out.

OPINION: Jail is too harsh for woman who kidnapped baby 18 years ago

The girl at the centre of the drama needs the woman she knows only as “Mom” now more than ever.

Baby kidnapping cases almost never end well. An exception of sorts is this week’s stunning arrest of Florida woman Gloria Williams, who abducted a baby, Kamiyah Mobley, when the newborn was only eight days old and raised her as her own for 18 years.

But this horrifying case has a chance of ending well if, and only if, the welfare of Kamiyah – who grew up with the name Alexis – is prioritised above all else. And that means neither separating her from the woman who raised her, or burdening her with the guilt of seeing that woman incarcerated.

In 1998 then 33-year-old Gloria Williams suffered a miscarriage. A week later she set out to deliberately kidnap a baby to replace the one she’d lost. She travelled three hours from her home in South Carolina to Florida, walked brazenly into a maternity hospital and walked out with Kamiyah in her arms. The baby wasn’t seen again until this week, when law enforcement raided Gloria Williams’ home in circumstances that are yet to be revealed.

Kamiyah, who was raised as Alexis Manigo by the woman she thought to be her mother, was found alive and by all accounts given a happy, healthy childhood, even if it was with the wrong family. She even defended her ‘kidnapper’, Williams, on Facebook, saying “My mother raised me with everything I needed and most of all everything I wanted.”

“My mother is no felon.”

The law thinks differently. Kamiyah was forced to part with the only woman she knew as her mother through prison bars, where Williams is being held pending charges for kidnapping. “I love you Mom,” the distraught Kamiyah cried, as she was led away.

If convicted, Williams could face life in jail.

There’s no question that Williams deserves punishment. The justice system must send a message to would-be kidnappers that stealing another family’s child is unacceptable. But a jail sentence, where Kamiyah is deprived of the woman she calls “Mom” will only punish Kamiyah/Alexis further. She will already face an almost intolerable confusion and loss of identity as the details of her mixed-up life become clearer. This is the worst possible moment for her to lose the only anchor she knows.


A similar story took place in South African in 1997, when newborn Zephany Nurse was kidnapped from her biological mother and raised by a second family for 17 years. After she was recovered her kidnapper-mother – who cannot be named – was jailed for 10 years.

But reports say that Zephany – who now goes by another name – chose to stay in the home where she was raised after her kidnapper-mother was jailed.

She has also formed no bond with her biological family.

It’s not known how her kidnapper-mother’s jail time has affected her but her determination to stay with her ‘kidnapper’ family and reject her biological family makes it clear where her loyalties lie, rightly or wrongly. Her mother’s jailing must only add another layer of trauma.

Kamiyah, who by all accounts is a stable and well-mannered young lady has already met with her biological parents, Shanara Mobley and Craig Aiken, who never gave up hope that she would be found. Like Zephany’s parents, they would almost certainly welcome a jail sentence for the woman who robbed them of so much.

But as agonising as their lives would have been since their daughter’s kidnapping, any delivery of justice that might help to atone for their anguish must be tempered, and even perhaps overridden, by considerations for Kamiyah’s welfare. She is the real victim. It’s very difficult to look at cases as complex as this, where such injustice has been done, and think dispassionately about the child caught in the centre. Harming her by taking her ‘mother’ away wiil not bring those lost years back.

It’s difficult to determine an alternative punishment for kidnapper Gloria Williams: fines and community service feel flimsy and insufficient. But jail is simply too cruel. Not too cruel for Gloria Williams but for Kamiyah.

Perhaps Kamiyah’s inevitable disappointment that her mother could commit so egregious a crime will be punishment enough.


Whatever happens, let’s hope these broken people, who have separately lost so much, can eventually move forward in peace.

“It is still very much a family business today, and over the years all my children have played a huge part in it from modelling for the catalogue to developing new categories for the brand,” Carole writes.

Party Pieces was born in 1987 while Carole was pregnant with James and Kate was due to start school. The idea came from “being a mum who was new to hosting children’s parties, finding the simplest of things like party bags was a real challenge.”

While the kids are no longer involved in this business, the proud mum says she still gets their input.

“They grew up with me working and appreciate the demands of a busy business and a working mum, and although now they are not involved day to day in the business, I still value their ideas and opinions.”

“Most people just think I have good genes,” Kim says in a Snap. “So I want to introduce you to my good genes, who I travel with, to Dubai: Dr Ourian.” Cue Dr Ourian (who, when he isn’t travelling by private jet to Dubai, is based in Beverly Hills) waving from the airport lounge.

As further proof, Kim then snapped the sci-fi goggles she wears during her “plane laser” treatments.

And there we were thinking in-flight sheet masks were fancy.

Melissa McCarthy has revealed some rather alarming news in a recent interview: she is done with playing Sookie in Gilmore Girls.

She finally spoke about the revival – which she has kept rather quiet about – in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. 

“No, I wouldn’t come back as [Sookie],” she said.

Apparently, she’d much prefer to come back as another character…

“I would come back [to the series] as Lorelai. And that is a challenge to Lauren Graham!”

The fact that she doesn’t want to play Sookie anymore may not come as a shock to Gilmore Girls fans who have kept up to date with the revival. You might have noticed that McCarthy’s accent sounded different in the revival to the original episodes, and it took a while for her to agree to the new episodes. So perhaps her heart isn’t in it anymore!

She also had some thoughts abut the final four words of the show, which had been built up for years.

“I had been waiting a long time to know, because [creator] Amy [Sherman-Palladino] had always said she knows exactly how it ends, but now it’s like, ‘Is that the last four words?'”

Of course she’s referring to the way the revival ended: “Mom?” “Yeah?” “I’m pregnant.” At this stage we’re not sure if we’ll be getting any more episodes of Gilmore Girls, but here’s hoping!

Girl Who Was Abducted As A Newborn 18 Years Ago Reunites With Birth Parents

18-years after she was stolen from the Florida hospital where she was born, Kamiyah Mobley, has had an emotional reunion with her biological parents.

Mobley spent 45 minutes with her birth parents, Craig Aiken and Shanara Mobley, at the Walterboro Police Department in South Carolina.

“I told her I was glad to see her and that I loved her,” Aiken told reporters afterward, reports NY Daily News. 

“The first meeting was beautiful. It’s a feeling that you can’t explain.”

On July 20, 1998, Mobley was just eight hours old when Gloria Williams, posing as a nurse, snatched her from the hospital.

Williams, now 51, raised the child as her own, however this week she was arrested after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a tip off.

DNA tests have reportedly confirmed her identity.

Following her arrest, the teen, who has only ever known Williams as her mother, rushed to the detention centre where she is being held, and reportedly sobbed as she spoke to her through a mesh screen.

“I love you, Momma,” she said.

According to CNN the teen “had an inclination beginning a couple of months ago”, that she may have been abducted.

“She’s taking it as well as you can imagine,” Jacksonville Sheriff Mike Williams said. “She has a lot to process. She has a lot to think about.”

In an emotional Facebook post over the weekend, Mobley declared, “My mother is no felon”.

“She raised me with everything I needed and most of all everything I wanted… The ignorant ones won’t understand that.”

Williams has been charged with kidnapping and interference with custody and is facing life in prison if convicted.

Megan Gale Opens Up About Her Heartbreaking Miscarriage

"He was quiet, and then he just said, ‘I’m so sorry, it’s gone'"

Megan Gale has opened up for the first time about the heartbreaking loss she faced last year, suffering a miscarriage while beginning work on her dream project Australia’s Next Top Model. 

“It took us six months with River…so we thought, let’s try around April and see what happens,” she tells InStyle.

“I found out in May and I was so thrilled it had happened so quickly, and a little bit shocked. My body was [changing]…and I was hoping to hide it, but I felt very pregnant.”



However just as she was due to start filming she fell ill.

“I had a cold, flu, I got laryngitis, I had a chest infection—it just got worse and worse. I was so bummed because I’d been so looking forward to doing this job and I loved working with Foxtel and loved the show… I wanted to be firing on all cylinders, and I was probably firing on half a cylinder.” 

However she recently shared videos of the interview on her Instagram, revealing how difficult it was for her to talk about the miscarriage. 

“You don’t really want to be reminded of it all the time, so I think that’s why a lot of women don’t talk about it,” she said.

She added that she felt incredibly guilty at first, and looked for reasons that it might have gone wrong.

“I was just so shocked, and immediately you just go into a bit of blame. What have I done? Because you’re charged with this responsibility to grow this life and carry it through.

“I think it’s very natural with miscarriage to have this feeling that you’ve really dropped the ball.”

However things changed when she fell pregnant again, with a healthy baby boy. 

“I fell pregnant immediately,” she wrote. “As my obstetrician said at the time, this is a blessing and a good sign for the future should we choose to try again.”

Megan Gale also opened up about what it’s like to work as a model, and why she chose to be a mum.

“I’m a bit of a nerd in that I just love to be professional and do the best job that I can. But I thought, ‘It’s worth it at the end of it because I’m going to have this baby,’” she tells InStyle.

After a reassuring six-week scan, Gale scheduled her next obstetric appointment to fall just before she jetted to Milan with the final four Top Model contestants to film the semi-final episode. But, she says, as the weeks progressed, something didn’t feel right.



“I can’t put my finger on it—there was no physical change or a sign or symptom…[I wondered] if I was being overprotective and paranoid, or if something was wrong.” She recalls feeling “nervous and horrible” on the morning of her next scan, but “I just wanted to go and see that bub was okay.” She remembers, “I hopped up on the table and [my obstetrician] put the ultrasound on my tummy. He just kept moving it and not saying anything and I started to feel sick.” After also completing an internal ultrasound, her specialist broke the news. “He was quiet, and then he just said, ‘I’m so sorry, it’s gone.’ ”

What followed was a harrowing sequence of events: an in-hospital procedure in Melbourne, before a rushed trip to Sydney, and then the long journey to Milan. “There was a risk of it getting out and spreading like wildfire, and I wasn’t prepared to deal with everyone knowing,” she says.

“Anything surrounding your conception as a woman, as a couple, is extremely intimate, and it needs to be handled delicately…I feel absolutely passionate about it—especially now with what we’ve gone through—because I’d always get asked ‘When are you going to have a baby?’ And when I’d had River, ‘When are you going to have another baby?’ I lose count how many times a week—whether it’s in an interview, whether it’s friends, family, someone at the supermarket I don’t know… it happens [to women] everywhere. It’s such a personal question, and what makes it that much harder to answer is when you’ve been through some kind of hurdle with conception.”

Prince Harry has reportedly taken the next major step in his relationship with actress Meghan Markle by introducing him to his sister-in-law Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge and his beloved niece Princess Charlotte.

According to The Sun, the meeting took place last Tuesday at Kensington Palace, with the Kate driving down from her Anmer Hall home in Norfolk especially for it. 

The publication reports that that meeting went “really well”, with the Suits actress even gifting the royal with a “dream diary” as a present for her 35th birthday which she celebrated the day before.

Meghan also reportedly “just adored” little Charlotte.

“Kate was really looking forward to meeting Meghan and she knew how important it was to Harry,” a source told The Sun. 

“Obviously Harry’s mother, Princess Diana, died when he was very young so Kate really fulfills that older sister/maternal role. They are very close and he really values her opinion on girlfriends.”

Kate’s meeting comes after Prince William’s own meeting with Meghan back in November, after which he released a statement supporting the relationship.

“The Duke of Cambridge absolutely understands the situation concerning privacy and supports the need for Prince Harry to support those closest to him,” Kensington Palace told The Telegraph.

Things seem to be going from strength to strength for the couple, who recently enjoyed their first romantic getaway in Tromsø, Norway, where they reportedly went whale-watching and watched the Aurora Borealis.

Following news that four arrests have been made over the Kim Kardashian robbery that took place in Paris back in October, her statement that she gave police has now been leaked to the media.

The statement was released by French newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche, and see’s the 36-year-old reality star describe the chilling ordeal in her own words. Kim’s statement was initially translated from English to French, and has since been translated back to English by People.

In the statement, Kim describes hearing a “noise at the door”, and says she shouted asking who was there, to no response.

“I heard a noise at the door, like footsteps, and I shouted, asking, ‘Who’s there?’ ” she said, according to the report. “No one answered. I called my bodyguard at 2:56 a.m. Through the door, I saw two people arrive, plus the night man who was tied up.”

“Both men were hooded, one had a ski mask and he had a cap and a jacket with ‘Police’ on it,” she continued. “The individual with the ski goggles rips out my BlackBerry phone.” 

“It’s the one with the ski goggles who stayed with me. He demanded with a strong French accent, my ring. It was on the bedside table. It’s worth 4 million dollars. … I told him that I didn’t know, he took out a gun and I showed him the ring.”

According to the report the men then dragged her into the hallway,, with Kim wearing nothing but her bathrobe.

“They grabbed me and took me into the hallway. I was wearing a bathrobe, naked underneath. Then we went in the room again and they pushed me on the bed. And, it was this time, they tied me up with plastic cables and taped my hands, then they put tape over my mouth and my legs.”

Kim also outlines what exactly was taken by the men, including two diamond Cartier bracelets, a gold and diamond Jacob necklace, Lorraine Schwartz diamond earrings and a gold Rolex, among other items.

“I think they robbed me of 5 million dollars,” she added. “Then they left on the run.”

Kim then reportedly then asked police if she can fly home to be with her children, 10-month-old son Saint and 3-year-old daughter North.

Last week French authorities charged 17 people in relation to the robbery, with authorities confident they have the “mastermind” behind the operation, identified as “Omar A”, after his DNA was reportedly found on the tape that was used to tie Kim up.

A Queensland man has died after collapsing from heatstroke just weeks before he was due to welcome his first child with his pregnant wife.

Matthew Hall was dirt bike riding when in the Beerburrum State Forrest when he became unwell and by the time paramedics reached him he had a temperature of 42 degrees.

His organs began to shut down and his condition deteriorated as the rescue helicopter landed and he passed away, reports Seven News. 

Mr Hall leaves behind his heavily pregnant wife Emily Hall, who was due to give birth to the couple’s first child in just two weeks.

“He was my best friend and my soul mate,” the 30-year-old widow said in a statement.

“I can’t fathom life without him but my strength is knowing he will live through his son.

“I will love him enough for the two of us and I will make sure I do Matt proud and be the best mum to him.”

The couple, who also stepped out on Saturday for the Portsea Polo in Melbourne, dated for 18-months after they met at a cafe where the model was waitressing, before the comedian announced they had ended their relationship on his radio show with Hamish Blake in July this year.

Lee first sparked rumours of a reconciliation in October after he recalled a hilarious conversation between the pair on his radio show where he revealed he accidentally said “love you” during a phone conversation and then a number of exchanges on social media added fuel to the fire.

Two identical twin sisters who were adopted to different families at birth recently appeared on Good Morning America, meeting for the first time.

10-year-old Audrey Doering and Gracie Rainsberry were born in China, but Gracie was adopted by a family in Washington and Audrey by a family in Wisconsin. Neither of the families knew that the girls were twins until last month one of Audrey’s mother discovered a photo of her daughter with another identical baby – Gracie.

Thanks to Facebook, Jennifer Doering was able to find Gracie’s mum, and reached out to get in touch.

The twins and their families came on to Good Morning America to meet each other for the first time and well… it was very emotional.

Just watch, and be sure to bring out the tissues.

The most heart melting moment was at the end, where Audrey said, “It felt like there was something missing, and now it’s complete.”

Megan Gale Opens Up About Her Heartbreaking Miscarriage

Megan Gale has opened up for the first time about the heartbreaking loss she faced last year, suffering a miscarriage while beginning work on her dream project Australia’s Next Top Model. 

“It took us six months with River…so we thought, let’s try around April and see what happens,” she tells InStyle.

“I found out in May and I was so thrilled it had happened so quickly, and a little bit shocked. My body was [changing]…and I was hoping to hide it, but I felt very pregnant.”



However just as she was due to start filming she fell ill.

“I had a cold, flu, I got laryngitis, I had a chest infection—it just got worse and worse. I was so bummed because I’d been so looking forward to doing this job and I loved working with Foxtel and loved the show… I wanted to be firing on all cylinders, and I was probably firing on half a cylinder.” 

“I’m a bit of a nerd in that I just love to be professional and do the best job that I can. But I thought, ‘It’s worth it at the end of it because I’m going to have this baby,’” she tells InStyle.

After a reassuring six-week scan, Gale scheduled her next obstetric appointment to fall just before she jetted to Milan with the final four Top Model contestants to film the semi-final episode. But, she says, as the weeks progressed, something didn’t feel right.



“I can’t put my finger on it—there was no physical change or a sign or symptom…[I wondered] if I was being overprotective and paranoid, or if something was wrong.” She recalls feeling “nervous and horrible” on the morning of her next scan, but “I just wanted to go and see that bub was okay.” She remembers, “I hopped up on the table and [my obstetrician] put the ultrasound on my tummy. He just kept moving it and not saying anything and I started to feel sick.” After also completing an internal ultrasound, her specialist broke the news. “He was quiet, and then he just said, ‘I’m so sorry, it’s gone.’ ”

What followed was a harrowing sequence of events: an in-hospital procedure in Melbourne, before a rushed trip to Sydney, and then the long journey to Milan. “There was a risk of it getting out and spreading like wildfire, and I wasn’t prepared to deal with everyone knowing,” she says.

“Anything surrounding your conception as a woman, as a couple, is extremely intimate, and it needs to be handled delicately…I feel absolutely passionate about it—especially now with what we’ve gone through—because I’d always get asked ‘When are you going to have a baby?’ And when I’d had River, ‘When are you going to have another baby?’ I lose count how many times a week—whether it’s in an interview, whether it’s friends, family, someone at the supermarket I don’t know… it happens [to women] everywhere. It’s such a personal question, and what makes it that much harder to answer is when you’ve been through some kind of hurdle with conception.”

Honestly, it’s my family.  I’m very lucky to have an amazing and supportive family and to be surrounded by strong beautiful women – my two sisters, my wonderful mum, and my grandmother.  My Dad is brilliant too! 

Then there’s Tim – he’s the love of my life and I admire him so much, and I’m so proud to be his partner. 

Then there’s my friends/work/lifestyle.  A lot has been written about me being a lawyer, most of it inaccurate (I’m not a paralegal, I’m a licensed lawyer!), but I love that I get to spend time in my legal life and then also in the media world – the exciting opportunities, meeting amazing people, and working with wonderful brands.

Last time you laughed till you cried?

The morning after my best friend’s hens party; we were recapping all the things that went down. It was like a scene from The Hangover and still makes me laugh (or cringe) thinking about it.

 Your go-to mantra?

Be brave! Everything I’ve done in my life has taken courage. I have two degrees, and that took grit and determination. Sometimes I didn’t know if I’d make it, but I did.

Are silk pillowcases really worth it?

Confession: I have become something of a silk pillowcase snob.

Until recently, I slept happily on cotton or linen covers, until I was introduced to a silk slip… and my nights (or more specifically, mornings) haven’t been the same since.

I was originally attracted to silk because of the benefits it supposedly has for your skin – think less wrinkles, more ageing gracefully. That, and the fact that sleeping on silk makes me feel the way I imagine Kate Middleton feels when she wakes up.

Definitely sleeps on silk.

But I’d never thought to consider the effect silk pillowcases could have on my hair. Then I was introduced to the new Pure Hair Food Rest Your Hair silk pillowcases – made from pure Mulberry silk at 22 momme (silk aficionados will know what I mean), they promise to preserve your blow dry and keep hair soft and smooth overnight – no more waking up with a bad case of bedhead.

“Traditional cotton pillowcases draw moisture from your hair and cause friction at the roots through the night, which causes your hair to become dry, frizzy and damaged,” the Pure Hair Food website tells me. “The silk cooling effect is perfect for summer nights, as it stops the humidity causing frizz and sweating from the roots.”

Apparently, silk pillowcases control your hair’s sebum production better than cotton, which sops up excess oil overnight and encourages your scalp to produce more to compensate.

Now this, I had to test for myself. I’m a wash every second day, religious spritz (douse would be more accurate) of dry shampoo kind of girl – my hair skews to the oilier side.

And after testing out the Pure Hair Food silk slips for a few weeks now, I can attest: my hair is less oily. I’m washing it every three days instead of two, and I haven’t changed anything else about my routine. Plus, I’m writing in the middle of another Sydney heatwave – if anything, you’d expect my hair to need washing more often, not less.

Add to that the fact that I no longer wake up with crevices deeper than the Grand Canyon on my face and how much softer the silk pillowcases feel to sleep on than cotton (so harsh! So puritanical!) and I’m sold. This, dear readers, is beauty sleep.

While promoting her new film Sing with co-star, Matthew McConaughey, Witherspoon let slip that she ended up quit the film due to her *terrible* Scottish accent.

 During an interview on ITV’s Lorraine, the conversation turned to tricky accents and Witherspoon reveals “Scottish is really…I was supposed to do…Oh no I don’t really want to talk about it!”

 

After some probing from co-star McConaughey and interviewer Ross King, Witherspoon spills: “I tried to do a Scottish accent once…It was bad, I had to quit the movie. It’s not my finest moment. I don’t want to talk about it anymore. That just came out and I really wish it hadn’t.”

While she didn’t state which film it was for, we have an inkling that it might be for the 2012 Pixar film Brave, which was set in the Scottish Highlands. Witherspoon was originally casted to voice Princess Merida but dropped out of the film and was replaced by Trainspotting‘s Kelly McDonald.

Brave director Marc Andrews told Digital Spy: “”We did have Reese Witherspoon when we started the project and she was on for quite some time, getting her Scottish accent down.”

  

“It was sounding great but as we were continuing with the movie she had other movies lining up, so unfortunately we were unable to continue with her and had to get a replacement.”

While a Scottish accent isn’t one of Reese’s talents, we’re pretty sure she’s got a fair few others to keep her employed…

Kendall Jenner has taken to her app to hit back at rumours she has had plastic surgery.

“It’s all so exhausting. As a model, why would I have my face reconstructed? It doesn’t even make sense,” she writes. “It’s crazy because sometimes I feel like people just want me to lose.”

 

The 21-year-old model first sparked surgery speculation when she posted a photo in November 2016 of herself alongside sister Kylie, showing off what appeared to be a fuller pout than usual.

Kylie, known for her love of a fuller lip, took to Snapchat at the time to let fans know she had simply worked her lip-lining magic illusion on her sister.

“I never wear lip liner or lipstick unless it’s the occasional obvious red – and when I say never, I mean even when I’m doing a nude lip, it’s basically just gloss,” Kendall continued.

“Anyway, I felt all of the makeup on because we were so rushed and I went out and did my thing… All of a sudden, photos of us came out with headlines like, ‘OMG, Kendall got her lips done and got full facial reconstruction – look at her cheekbones, look at her nose!’ I was like, this is CRAZY.

Kendall says that while she didn’t comment on the speculation at the time she did see it on social media and that’s where she came across an Instagram account dedicated to Kardashian bashing.

“‘It was upsetting for me to look at because this person dedicated an entire page to just dissing the whole family and being like, ‘These people suck’,” she wrote.

“People forget that they’re talking about real people who have real feelings and actually live their everyday lives (for the most part) just like everyone else.”

This was around the same time Kendall decided to go on a social media detox and delete her Instagram account.

“I just wanted to detox. I felt like, I just wanted a little bit of a break,” she told Ellen DeGeneres at the time.

“I’m always on it. I would wake up in the morning and I would look at it first thing. I would go to bed and it was the last thing I would look at. I felt a little too dependent on it so I kind of wanted to take a minute to detox.

This week on Facebook, women have been leaving heart emojis on their friends’ Facebook walls to serve as a subtle reminder to check their breasts for lumps.

However, one user named <a href="/umbraco/”>Erin Smith Chieze has responded to this trend by stating, “We need to give REAL information, not cute hearts”.

Her post, published on January 11, offers another solution, which has already garnered over nine thousand likes.

Chieze highlights the importance of spreading detailed information of how breast cancer looks and feels, instead of a just using a “cute heart”. She posted a photo, which was part of the Know Your Lemons campaign by the Worldwide Breast Cancer organisation.

The use of lemons is to prevent the photo from being censored online, and visually shows symptoms without using too much text.

Chieze writes “Without having seen a picture randomly with real information, I wouldn’t have known what to look for. Do us a favor, stop playing games with my life and start truly helping people. Metastatic breast cancer treatment research and real awareness.

“PLEASE, stop playing games that do not actually promote awareness, they often cause people to tune out anything that might even mention the word awareness,” she added. “So if you truly want to help people WITH cancer, or those who will GET cancer, share photos like this one.”

Chieze’s post has since gone viral with the post being shared over 21,000 times. The viral post has even caused the Worldwide Breast Cancer website to crash.

With potentially over 2 billion women to educate worldwide, spreading the right information is crucial in saving lives.

We’ve all heard the rumours about celery: eat it and you’ll burn more calories than you ingest.

But what if we told you that celery is just one of up to 20 foods that have the same effect?

According to a list published in The Sun, raspberries, kale, apples and lettuce are among the fruits and vegetables that could be said to contain zero calories. That’s right: zero, nada, zilch.

The idea is that due to these foods’ high water content, they contain less energy than it takes to consume them * adds chewing and digesting to daily exercise tally *

Dr Donald Hensrud from the Mayo Clinic breaks it down: “Foods that contain few calories, such as celery and other non-starchy vegetables, provide a small number of calories but still require energy to digest,” he says. “That means it is theoretically possible to have a negative-calorie food.”

He does add, however, that here are no reputable scientific studies to prove the theory actually works. “[But] even if non-starchy vegetables are not negative-calorie, they are still low-calorie, and a smart choice to include in a predominantly plant-based diet,” he says.

Of course, no-one’s advocating you eat only the foods on this list – that would be plain crazy. But if you were looking for an added incentive to eat more fruit and veggies, this is it.

Natalie Portman became the latest Hollywood star to speak out against the industry’s gender pay gap week.

The actress revealed that she was paid three times less than her co-star Ashton Kutcher in their 2011 film No Strings Attached. Three times less.

“Ashton Kutcher was paid three times as much as me on No Strings Attached,” the actress recently told Marie Claire UK.

 

“I knew and I went along with it because there’s this thing with ‘quotes’ in Hollywood. His was three times higher than mine, so they said he should get three times more.”

Ashton took to Twitter to praise his co-star – and other women – for speaking out.

Ashton’s wife Mila Kunis made headlines last year when she revealed that she was told by a producer she would “never work in this town again” when she refused to pose half-naked to promote a film, writing an op-ed she addressed the fact that this producer “spoke aloud the exact fear every woman feels when confronted with gender bias in the workplace.” 

Of her decision not to fight it, Natalie says she felt that complaining about it when she gets paid so much in the first place felt wrong, and so she didn’t say anything.

“I wasn’t as pissed as I should have been. I mean, we get paid a lot, so it’s hard to complain, but the disparity is crazy.”

But therein lies the problem, no matter what the job, or what the pay level, woman are always making excuses for why we shouldn’t speak up.

“I don’t think women and men are more or less capable, we just have a clear issue with women not having opportunities,” she added. “We need to be part of the solution, not perpetuating the problem.”

House Of Cards star Robin Wright proved it pays to speak up when she revealed she had to negotiate the same salary as co-star Kevin Spacey.

“There are very few films or TV shows where the patriarch and the matriarch are equal,” says Wright, who won a Golden Globe for her role as Claire Underwood in 2014.

“I was like: ‘I want to be paid the same as Kevin … You’d better pay me or I’m going to go public.’ And they did.”

If you think you are being short-changed at work, it’s time to stand up and close the gap. Here’s how:

1. Prove your point

“Look for information that will support your claim that you are underpaid relative to others in a similar role,’’ says human resources expert Karen Gately. “Online salary surveys, conversations with recruiters and peers in the industry can be great ways of tapping into the information you need. Know that you’re doing the right thing by challenging what you earn and asking for more.”

2. Be up-front

If you are aware that a pay gap exists with a male colleague, be firm in your expectations that steps should be taken to improve your income. “Be up-front and ask for an explanation as to why this is the case and what you can do differently to earn equal pay,’’ says Gately. “Share how your experience and capabilities compare to your peers. Focus on your own worth and why you should be paid more competitively.”

3. Suggest a range

Once you have done your research and you have a clear idea of what your salary should be, suggest an optimal salary range, such as, “I was thinking between $75,000 and $80,000.’’ Make sure the lower number is your bare minimum.

4. Silence can be golden

When discussing money it’s human nature to try to fill in awkward silences. But let things breathe. If a number is offered, ruminate on it. “Hmmm. I see.’’ Sometimes your negotiator will rush to fill the void with a counter offer, or offer other incentives such as a car parking spot or additional leave.

5. Remain calm

Gately says that while voting with your feet and leaving the organisation might ultimately be the right move to improve your circumstances, “negotiations are rarely helped with aggressive demands or threats. Allow your manager to reflect on your request, but ask they commit to meeting with you again after they’ve had the opportunity to consider it.”

Nine News presenter Amber Sherlock has responded after a video was leaked to the media which saw her blasting a colleague over their clashing outfits.

“Live TV can be a pretty stressful beast, at times,” the veteran newsreader explained to Nine Honey.

“It’s never much fun rocking up to work or to a party in the same outfit as one of your colleagues or friends. I probably overreacted with the pressure of reading a live news bulletin.”

The off-air footage was leaked to Mumbrella, which see’s Nine’s afternoon news host Amber Sherlock, sports reporter Julie Snook and psychologist Sandy Rea preparing for a segment and all wearing white. 

“I need Julie to put a jacket on because we’re all in white,” Sherlock began.

“I asked her before we came on – Julie, you need to put a jacket on.”

“I’m sorry, I’ve been flat out,” apologised Snook, as she tries to see if somebody can find her a spare jacket.

The exchange continues back and forth, before finally seeing the segment go to air with Snook wearing a black jacket.

Snook has also responded to the footage, making made light of the awkward exchange revealing, “Amber and I just really love white!”

“Amber and I are good friends and I really enjoy working with her, News is a fast moving environment and sometimes these things happen.”

Sarah Jane Young, an Aussie blogger, took to Instagram to share the beautiful, raw and absolutely heart wrenching photos of the daughter she named Charlotte Rose Young.

“While your little life was way too brief, in that very short time YOU have proven to me that a mother’s heart is NEVER, ever full,” she wrote.

“Our hearts are beyond broken and there will never be day that goes by where we don’t think about you – our sweet baby girl. “Charlotte, my and our connection to you as a family will forever be immeasurable. We love you and will honour your memory our little rose petal, forever and EVER. Now rest in peace our darling angel. LOVE ALWAYS and ALWAYS, mummy, daddy & your big sis Mia Grace x”

Posting a second photo of her daughter, Mia, kissing her little sister, she admits  “the pain is worse” the next day.

“Waking up today with an even emptier heart… The pain is worse… The distance from our baby girl is greater… The anger couldn’t be stronger… The seconds are longer and my world has stopped,” she wrote.

“It’s hard to ever imagine smiling again and trying to be strong for our precious MG is so, so incredibly hard. BUT… My blessings have been magnified tenfold and my amazement in a mother’s capacity to love and nurture her family is at its highest.

Russian Parliament Votes to Decriminalise Domestic Violence

According to official Russian Government statistics, an astounding 36,000 women are assaulted by their partners in the country every day. The nation’s victims and activists want domestic abuse to be addressed before it spirals out of control.

But in a shock move, the Moscow Times reports Russian parliament has passed a bill proposing to decriminalise domestic violence. A staggering 368 members voted in favour of the motion yesterday. The MP behind the agenda (which began in 2016), Yelena Mizulina, has defended her stance, “You don’t want people to be imprisoned for two years and labelled a criminal for the rest of their lives for a slap.” The bill is said to concern mainly non-serious assaults causing “bruises or grazes”.

But there are those who are opposed to the idea saying that it would leave survivors of domestic abuse powerless, and ultimately downgrade domestic assault in the home to a misdemeanour. One such member of the community is women’s rights activist, Alyona Popova, who protested against the bill outside the State Duma building yesterday with a placard reading, “I created you, I kill you.” Also adding “in 2015, 11,756 boys and girls suffered from violent crimes in families.” 

In a Facebook post, Popova argued, “These people didn’t propose legislation that would improve the court system or the law enforcement, they just supported transferring liability into fines. It means that an offender will now beat [his relatives] and pay a small fine.”

But for the ultra-conservative Mizulina – the same MP who successfully passed a law banning gay propaganda, including material on LGBTQ rights – family tradition is to be respected, “In Russian traditional family culture parent-child relationships are built on the authority of the parents’ power,” she said. “The laws should support that family tradition.”

The numbers around violence in the country have already reached alarming levels, and with 40% of violent crimes in Russia committed within the family, one can only hope further legislative changes will not endanger victims or worse, result in devastating consequences.

Seven-year-old Katie Rough’s mother fell to her knees and was heard screaming “No, no, no, it’s my little girl. Help get an ambulance.” when her daughter’s body was found on a playing field.

Katie was found with horrific injuries in York on Monday night, and though she was rushed to hospital by paramedics, she died hours later.

BBC News reports a 15-year-old girl was arrested and charged with murder, and has also been charged with possession of an offensive weapon – a knife.

The teenage girl remained silent for her eight-minute court hearing while her solicitor answered questions about her name and address. She is due to appear in Leeds Crown Court on Friday.

Katie Rough’s family and the surrounding community have been traumatised by the events, leaving tributes at the site where Katie was injured. One tribute from her grandparents read, “Night, night my darling princess Katie. Love Nana and Grandad xx xx”

Politicians have also paid tribute to Katie Rough in the House of Commons after the horrific incident.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said: “I’m sure the whole House will join in heartfelt condolences to the family and friends [following] the tragic death of seven-year-old Katie Rough in York earlier this week.

“I think it’s right we send condolences to her family.”

Prime Minister Theresa May added, “I also join you in expressing condolences to the family and friends of little Katie, who died so tragically.”

One resident of York who didn’t know the family, Maggie Jackson, started a GoFundMe page to raise money for the family “to help them through this terrible time without any other worries.”

A relative of Katie’s family posted, “Just want to say on behalf of me and my family it is hugely appreciated and we cannot thank all enough for being so kind and supporting towards us!”

Wu shot to international fame after he received the First Lady’s stamp of approval in 2009 and the pair cultivated a strong relationship over the years wearing the designer on numerous occasions.

When the president was re-elected for a second term in 2013 she turned to Wu once again, this time donning a fiery red velvet and chiffon gown, this time a bolder choice, perhaps symbolic of her growing confidence in her ability in the role.

Toddler Who Tragically Drowned In An Inflatable Pool Remembered As ‘Sweet Little Boy’

In the most recent case of toddler drownings in Australia this summer, a little boy has tragically drowned in a backyard inflatable pool. 

Two-year-old Alex Grove was pulled from the water of the backyard pool at his Gold Coast home on Tuesday afternoon and rushed to hospital. Though he was revived by medics at the scene, he later died in Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital after his life support was shut off on Wednesday morning.

He has been remembered by family members and friends as a ‘sweet little boy’. 

One of his family friends, Ashlee Owen, who was known as ‘Auntie Ashlee’, told The Courier Mail that she had ‘lost her sidekick’.

“He was my best friend,” she said. “He wouldn’t go anywhere without me. We were pretty much attached at the hip.

 

“If I went to the letterbox, he had to come with me. He was my little sidekick.

 

“I don’t know what I will do without him now.”

Ms Owen also added that family members were traumatised after the events and that they were struggling to sleep. She said that his father Kieran Pye had died in 2015, and that Alex had missed him greatly.

“Even though he didn’t know his daddy very long he always told me how much he missed him,” she said.

 

“He would always do cute little things like throwing his dummy up in the air to heaven and asking his daddy to catch it.

 

“He had pictures of his daddy around his home and used to always say ‘goodnight daddy’ before he went to sleep.”

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has issued warnings to the public about the safety of inflatable pools 300mm deep or more following the incident. They have suggested that children are actively supervised by an adult at all times, and reminded consumers that fencing laws still apply to these pools.

The latest Hollywood star to speak out against the industry’s gender pay gap is none other than Natalie Portman.

The actress joins the ranks of some of Hollywood’s finest including Jennifer Lawrence, Charlize Theron and Hillary Swank (all Oscar-winning actresses) who have experienced it first hand. Natalie has revealed she was paid three times less than her co-star Ashton Kutcher in their 2011 film No Strings Attached. Three times less.

“Ashton Kutcher was paid three times as much as me on No Strings Attached,” the actress recently told Marie Claire UK.

 

“I knew and I went along with it because there’s this thing with ‘quotes’ in Hollywood. His was three times higher than mine, so they said he should get three times more.”

The actress says she felt like complaining about it when she gets paid so much in the first place felt wrong, and so she didn’t say anything.

“I wasn’t as pissed as I should have been. I mean, we get paid a lot, so it’s hard to complain, but the disparity is crazy.”

But therein lies the problem, no matter what the job, or what the pay level, woman are always making excuses for why we shouldn’t speak up.

“I don’t think women and men are more or less capable, we just have a clear issue with women not having opportunities,” she added. “We need to be part of the solution, not perpetuating the problem.”

Ashton has since taken to Twitter to praise his co-star – and other women – for speaking out.

His wife Mila Kunis made headlines last year when she revealed that she was told by a producer she would “never work in this town again” when she refused to pose half-naked to promote a film, writing an op-ed she addressed the fact that this producer “spoke aloud the exact fear every woman feels when confronted with gender bias in the workplace.” 

House Of Cards star Robin Wright proved it pays to speak up when she revealed she had to negotiate the same salary as co-star Kevin Spacey.

“There are very few films or TV shows where the patriarch and the matriarch are equal,” says Wright, who won a Golden Globe for her role as Claire Underwood in 2014.

“I was like: ‘I want to be paid the same as Kevin … You’d better pay me or I’m going to go public.’ And they did.”

If you think you are being short-changed at work, it’s time to stand up and close the gap. Here’s how:

1. Prove your point

“Look for information that will support your claim that you are underpaid relative to others in a similar role,’’ says human resources expert Karen Gately. “Online salary surveys, conversations with recruiters and peers in the industry can be great ways of tapping into the information you need. Know that you’re doing the right thing by challenging what you earn and asking for more.”

2. Be up-front

If you are aware that a pay gap exists with a male colleague, be firm in your expectations that steps should be taken to improve your income. “Be up-front and ask for an explanation as to why this is the case and what you can do differently to earn equal pay,’’ says Gately. “Share how your experience and capabilities compare to your peers. Focus on your own worth and why you should be paid more competitively.”

3. Suggest a range

Once you have done your research and you have a clear idea of what your salary should be, suggest an optimal salary range, such as, “I was thinking between $75,000 and $80,000.’’ Make sure the lower number is your bare minimum.

4. Silence can be golden

When discussing money it’s human nature to try to fill in awkward silences. But let things breathe. If a number is offered, ruminate on it. “Hmmm. I see.’’ Sometimes your negotiator will rush to fill the void with a counter offer, or offer other incentives such as a car parking spot or additional leave.

5. Remain calm

Gately says that while voting with your feet and leaving the organisation might ultimately be the right move to improve your circumstances, “negotiations are rarely helped with aggressive demands or threats. Allow your manager to reflect on your request, but ask they commit to meeting with you again after they’ve had the opportunity to consider it.”

Former Posh Spice turned fashion designer Victoria Beckham has penned a poignant letter to her 18-year-old self, in which she opens up about everything from her marriage to David Beckham to her insecurities (“Do I relax on the beach in a bikini? No.”) to her regrets about having her breasts augmented.

The letter, which Beckham penned for British Vogue, offers incredibly candid insights about what goes on inside her head. Here are a few of our favourite quotes:

Though Nicole Kidman grew up in Australia, she certainly has ties to the US. Being born in Hawaii and now residing in Nashville with husband Keith Urban and their two children, she feels invested in the US election.

Kidman recently revealed her thoughts about the election of Donald Trump as president in a recent interview at the UK premiere of her new movie Lion.

“[Trump is] now elected and we, as a country, need to support whoever is the president,” she said. “That is what the country is based on. And however that happened, it happened, and let’s go.”

She also added that, “You go through heartbreak again and again and then you start to tell yourself it might never happen. I honestly never believed I would actually give birth to a child, then at 41 I became a mother.”

Sydney Woman Charged After Allegedly Leaving Four Children Locked In Hot Car On 40 Degree Day

Police were alerted when passersby spotted the children crying inside the car.

As temperatures soared to 40.9 degrees in Sydney yesterday, police rushed to save four children trapped in a hot car after witnesses spotted them crying as they walked by.

Sydney Morning Herald reports that the woman driving them had allegedly left them locked in a hot car in the Officeworks car park at Bankstown as she left the scene, and she later cooperated with police.

The youngest child was six years old, and the others were seven, eight, and nine years old. A witness called police at 3pm to report the incident, and police and paramedics soon arrived at the scene.

They were helped from the car by witnesses and were unharmed.

The 44-year-old woman was charged with leaving a child or young person in a motor vehicle causing emotional distress.

Police have issued warnings that on a hot summer’s day, the temperature inside a car can reach 50 or even 60 degrees, even when the car windows are rolled down, which can be incredibly dangerous.

Children left in hot cars could be at risk of suffering heat stroke, which can lead to high fever, dehydration, seizures, stroke and potentially death. Police have urged witnesses to call 000 to report any incidents they see.

The woman will appear in court in Bankstown Local Court on February 22.

Donald Trump Hits Back At #GoldenShower Allegations

Donald Trump has hit back at controversial and salacious allegations involving Russian women in his first official press conference. 

 

Yesterday the President-Elect was forced to deny an unverified report that claimed he had been working with Russia for five years. The report also contained details of Trump’s supposed sexual encounters while in Russia. (Let’s just say that #GoldenShower is now trending worldwide. Not sure what a Golden Shower is? Google it).  

 

The outlandish claims overshadowed the rest of the press conference, with Trump has denouncing them as “fake news”. He blasted the leaking of the reports as “disgraceful” and “crap”.

 

“I think it’s a disgrace that information would be let out,” he said.

 

“It’s all fake news, it’s phony stuff, it doesn’t happen … It was a group of opponents who got together, sick people, and they put that crap together.”

 

 “It was disgraceful that the intelligence agencies allowed any information that proved so false and fake to get out. That’s something that Nazi Germany would have done, and did do. That information was false and fake,” he said.

 

And in direct reference to the #GoldenShower allegations, well his argument was that he’s “very much a germaphobe, by the way. Believe me.” To which he received laughter from the gathered media.

 

Trump is just nine days out from his inauguration as the 44th President of the United States on January 20.

 

The release of the information has been highly controversial. The report has allegedly been in circulation for several months, with many major news outlets declining to publish the salacious specifics as they could not be verified. However, yesterday CNN reported that classified documents had been presented to both Trump and President Obama last week which included allegations that Russian operatives claim to have compromising information (both personal and financial) on the incoming POTUS. 

 

BuzzFeed then opted to release a collection of memos, including the salacious details. 

 

Unverified? Definitely. Fake news? Quite possibly.

She posed on the red carpet with her makeup artist Pati Dubroff who was being honoured at the ceremony.

Also making its red carpet debut was Margot’s stunning pear-shaped engagement ring which was perfectly offset with a gold and diamond wedding band.

Margot and Tom tied the knot in a secret ceremony at Harvest, in Newrybar on the NSW north coast on December 18. 

The pair met in 2013 on the set of Suite Française where Tom worked as an assistant director. 

“I was the ultimate single gal. The idea of relationships made me want to vomit,” she said. “And then this crept up on me,” she told US Vogue back in May.

“We were friends for so long,” she said. “I was always in love with him, but I thought, ‘Oh, he would never love me back. Don’t make it weird, Margot. Don’t be stupid and tell him that you like him.’ And then it happened, and I was like, ‘Of course we’re together. This makes so much sense, the way nothing has ever made sense before.'”

Senator describes childcare work as “wiping noses”

Senator David Leyonhjelm was right when he said that the job of taking care of children is “wiping noses and stopping the kids from killing each other”. 

Well, he was partly right. 

He made the remarks in an interview on Channel Ten’s The Project, when explaining why he won’t support the government’s new $3 billion childcare reform package “without amendment”. 

Leyonhjelm also said we needed to wind back the regulations around childcare and family daycare, and cut the credentials required to be a childcare worker. 

As a small-government libertarian, he thinks there is far too much fuss around the whole early childcare system. The way he characterises it, childcare is little more than government-subsidised babysitting. All kids need is to be free from snot and safe from physical harm – how hard can it be? 

It’s generally considered off-limits in political debate to talk about a person’s personal life, but it cannot go entirely unremarked that Leyonhjelm, a childless man, is unlikely to have spent a lot of time caring for children. 

So perhaps we can’t blame him for not knowing that along with wiping noses and the prevention of homicide, caring for kids in the early childhood years also involves teaching children to self-regulate their emotions, establishing the basics of learning so they will be set up for school – things like helping them to sit still, and understanding that text has meaning – and teaching them to communicate their needs so they don’t get frustrated and act out violently.

It’s also safe to assume that Leyonhjelm is unfamiliar with the vast body of research that shows the early childhood years are make-or-break, a precious period when children’s biological and social fates can be set, sometimes irreversibly. 

He probably doesn’t know that the fields of neuro-science, medicine and economics are united in proving, time and again, that if you offer quality early childhood education in the years before school, it can prevent everything from obesity to welfare dependence, anti-social behaviour, jail time and heart disease. 

More importantly, perhaps, for an economic dry like Leyonhjelm, it can save money. 

James Heckman is a Nobel prize-winning economist who has devoted much of his career to researching the economics of early childhood. 

His analysis of various preschool programs has shown funding quality early childhood programs delivers a later return on investment of 7-10 per cent. 

But I doubt Leyonhjelm has read that vast body of research. 

I doubt, also, that he can see that the more he devalues the work of childcare, which is intensive, back-breaking and more socially worthwhile, dare I say, than sitting in the Senate and trying to negotiate more lax gun laws in return for his vote, the more he devalues women, who have historically done the lion’s share of it.

We often complain that politicians are out of touch, and don’t understand what it’s like to struggle in a day job, or balance a household budget, or sit in heavy traffic during a commute. 

Leyonhjelm clearly has a poor understanding of what caring for children involves. Perhaps he needs a better education. A stint of work experience in childcare centre would be a good start. He will need a robust handkerchief, and an even stronger constitution.

At Sydney’s Waverley Court tomorrow, two prominent male personalities are due to face court after being served apprehended violence orders on behalf of their well known female partners.

Celebrity accountant Anthony Bell says he will fight allegations he pushed his wife, former Getaway presenter Kelly Landry, after police took out an interim Apprehended Violence Order (AVO) against him following the alleged incident said to have occurred in November last year. The couple have two young daughters together.

Meanwhile, former Test cricketer Stuart MacGill was placed on a temporary AVO by police on Boxing Day, and instructed not to ­approach or contact his fiancee, Julie Singleton, the former wife of millionaire ad tycoon John Singleton.

The fact that the two similar situations of alleged domestic violence have coincided has prompted a spate of coverage in the press — Sydney newspaper The Daily Telegraph today contributed their front page, plus a whole spread, to reporting the two incidents, with several days of coverage still likely to follow.

The extensive press coverage is not surprising given the prominence of the people involved, but the underlying message is powerful: not only is domestic violence finally receiving the coverage is deserves – but more and more women are comfortable in coming forward to protect themselves and their families.

While the most recent Australian Personal Safety Survey, conducted in 2012, revealed that more than half of those affected by domestic violence never call the police, domestic violence has rightfully received the media attention and political focus it so desperately needed in Australia over the last few years.  

Labelled an “epidemic” by 2015 Australian of the Year Rosie Batty, whose son Luke was murdered at the hands of his father, one in three Australian women have experienced physical and or sexual violence perpetrated by someone known to them.

Batty’s tireless campaigning has resulted in increased government funding, and in October 2016 the Turnbull government released details of a $100 million domestic violence package, including $30 million for front-line legal assistance and family law services to reduce violence against women and children. Extensive media coverage has also ensued, including the award winning ABC series Hitting Home, in which journalist Sarah Ferguson spent six months on the front line of domestic and family violence.

Unquestionably, domestic violence is a serious and widespread issue in Australia, and we are sadly yet to see a reduction in the percentage of women affected by it. But for women to have the courage to speak out against it is hopefully a step in the right direction towards overturning the statistics.

In the alleged domestic violence cases concerning Anthony Bell’s wife Kelly Landry and Stuart MacGill’s fiancée Julie Singleton — who face much higher levels of scrutiny and media attention due to their celebrity status — the risk of reporting the situation comes at a higher cost to themselves and families.

Both Singleton and Landry should be applauded for standing up to the alleged violent behavior and placing the matter in the hands of the law. Their decision to do so will hopefully encourage and motivate the other thousands of Australian women affected by domestic violence to do the same.

She was kidnapped, beaten and branded. But Sherri Papini’s ordeal is far from over

She survived, and now the mother of three is being revictimized

Imagine being abducted at gunpoint while out jogging one afternoon, on your regular running track, right near your home. Imagine then being held captive where you are beaten, branded, chained up and starved for three weeks before you are pushed out of a car, left on a highway, with a bag over your head and a chain around your waist. Imagine screaming for help so loudly that you are couching up blood when you are found by another driver.

 

That is not a frightening hypothetical for Sherri Papini. It’s the ordeal the 34-year-old American endured in November last year when she was kidnapped near her home in Redding, California.

 

Fortunately, she survived and was reunited – bruised and battered, but alive – with her husband and two small children three weeks after her disappearance.

 

But the ordeal didn’t end there. Rather than marking the beginning of her recovery, for Papini, coming home marked the beginning of a new chapter in the same nightmare.

 

One in which her life and disappearance became fodder for the public to openly dissect and scrutinise. Where the absence of any arrests or official explanation from law enforcement has left a void that all manner of individuals are all too happy to fill with their own version of events.

 

In December the local police were forced to deny claims they thought her story was a hoax after a rogue officer raised concerns it may have been invented. 

 

Today the first photos taken of Papini since she was kidnapped have been published and splashed around the internet.

 

In the photos she is hiding beneath a cap, a hooded jumped and an oversized jacket. She reportedly stepped outside her home for minutes and photographers were there waiting to snap away.

 

These are not photos of a woman wanting to be seen. They are photos of a woman wanting to hide.

 

A woman who spent the first few weeks following the attack with her family in an undisclosed location in a bid for privacy.

 

A woman who is unlikely to have privacy any time soon. If ever.

 

Public interest is a double edged sword.  Sherri’s family and friends specifically engaged the media a bid to help find her in the weeks after her disappearance. They felt frustrated by the local police’s lack of gusto and wanted the case kept in the spotlight. As the Guardian reported “The Shasta County sheriff’s department appears to have considered just a couple of common scenarios – either that her husband had done her harm (he was quickly cleared as a suspect) or that she had walked out on her life, staging an attack so she could start a new life somewhere else.”  They seemed unconvinced it was an abduction.

 

So Sherri’s husband and friends started a GoFundMe account and received a substantial sum of money from an anonymous donor.

 

They used the money to hire two private investigators and developed a plan to offer the abductors money for Sherri’s return.

 

The police were reportedly unimpressed with this plan but they proceeded anyway.

 

They communicated the ransom offer first in a media interview and then in a short video posted on Youtube. After nothing happened they posted a second video offering more money. Within 24 hours of the second video being online, Sherri was released.

 

Her captors have not been found. There are many questions to be answered and it is unsurprising that there is public curiosity in this unsolved and unexplained crime.

 

But at what point does the public interest end and Sherri’s right to privacy begin?

 

She has survived the initial brutality of being abducted and tortured and her reward for surviving is facing the ongoing cruelty of having her life watched, her credibility questioned and her privacy compromised.

 

Earlier this week, the victim of a high-profile kidnapping case in California spoke publicly about the burden of being falsely accused of fabricating the crime. “All I did was survive, and I was criminalized for it,” Denise Huskins wrote on Facebook. 

 

Despite the fact the man responsible for her violent abduction was prosecuted, she still receives messages accusing her of making it up. It forces her to relive the crime, time and time again. It triggers post-traumatic shock. It makes her life impossibly hard.  

 

After what Huskins and Papini have faced, do they deserve another round of trauma in their lives? Being victimized again? Haven’t they faced enough?

It’s 7am, and I’m unable to speak. Not because I’m shocked, sick, or simply still asleep (if only), but because my lips are sealed with a see-through plastic mask that promises intense plumping and hydrating in the time it takes to make a cup of tea.

In case an internet ban was one of your New Year’s resolutions and you’re not yet aware, Emma Stone won the Golden Globes three times over – she nabbed an actual award (Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical for La La Land), red carpet (that star-strewn Valentino number) and pre-game stakes.

Her super-cute getting ready selfie practically went viral, because Emma is wearing a salmon pink, ridiculously oversized lip mask. Behold:

So naturally, when a similar product arrived in the marie claire office the next day, I had to try it (literally had to try it, because my boss made me * hand wave emoji *).

While this isn’t the exact mask Emma Stone has clearly taken a liking to, it’s still a) lip shaped; b) made in Korea, just like Emma’s; and c) is designed to plump and hydrate your lips. And there we all were thinking there couldn’t possibly be more than one oversized lip-shaped plumping mask in the world.

The major difference between the two is that unlike Emma’s, the SKYN Iceland Plumping Lip Gel I tried is completely see-through. Which somehow makes it look even worse on:

I expected to feel the same tingling sensation most lip plumping glosses give, but this mask came with zero side effects, both during wear and after. For that reason, it was hard to believe it was working – I like to be able to feel that my treatments are doing their job.

Former Youth Detention Detainees File Class Action Against NT Government

The news comes soon after ABC's horrifying Four Corners program on the mistreatment of children in youth detention facilities.

Former juvenile detainees are seeking compensation after suffering physical and psychological abuse in Darwin youth detention centres. Lawyers have filed a class action against the Northern Territory government, meaning that hundreds of former detainees could receive compensation.

ABC’s Four Corners program exposed horrors in the detention centres last year, such as the fact that children were being gassed, beaten and tortured.

ABC News reports that the class action detailed allegations against former detainees Dylan Jenkings and Aaron Hyde, including false imprisonment, assault and battery. If the class action is successful, it would set a precedent for others who have suffered similar abuse to receive compensation.

“Our clients are concerned not only of their own treatment, but the treatment of other young people in youth detention centres,” lawyer Ben Slade said.

“These young people are entitled to be compensated for the wrong that was done to them.

“Things have to change.”

The class action details allegations of abuse, including that staff hit 15-year-old Aaron Hyde in the ribs while he was handcuffed in 2012, and on a separate occasion, slammed his head into a door frame. 

There are also allegations that Hyde was stripped naked and put in an isolation cell with no bedding or tap water for three weeks.

Hyde’s mother Tracey was horrified by the documents and allegations of abuse, and told ABC that she found the document ‘confronting’.

“He was stripped naked and he’d been asking for a blanket and a guard told him to masturbate to keep himself warm,” she said.

“That should happen to nobody. Yes, there are kids that are in there for a reason, but that doesn’t mean you can treat them like animals.”

Lawyers guess that the initial proceedings of the class action will take about two years, so it will be a while before the victims see compensation. Hyde and Jenkings are currently serving at an adult correctional facility in the Northern Territory.

A Royal Commission into youth detention commenced last year in September, and is expected to release its final report on March 31 this year.

US beauty bloggers are dumpster diving for luxury make-up

Strict abiders by the 30-second rule, you may want to look away – because in the burgeoning world of beauty dumpster diving, anything (and we mean anything) goes.

The practice of scrounging around (and in more cases than not, physically diving into) dumpster bins in search of discarded beauty product is, apparently, nothing new – but until now, it’s gone largely unnoticed.

Take New Jersey based James Jugan, who’s been reselling make-up found in dumpsters since 1978 and makes 100 per cent of his income from diving. “It’s like having a license to print money,” he told Racked in 2015. But he bemoans the wave of next-gen divers posting their exploits online and drawing attention to the dodgy practice.

Now that big name beauty vloggers are getting in on the action, dumpster diving at make-up emporiums like Sephora and Ulta is going viral. Broadly spoke to 23-year-old vlogger Shelbizleee, whose Youtube video of an Ulta dumpster diving haul (she nabbed over $US2000 worth of product) has garnered over one million views.

“I know I can always go to an ULTA dumpster and basically always find something,” she says, revealing the Chanel, Prada, Gucci and Dolce & Gabbana perfumes (none full and many practically empty; all ex-testers), highly sought after Anastasia Beverly Hills contour palettes and Lancome make-up she found in a week.

“I don’t use any liquid lipsticks, anything that could have been contaminated and couldn’t be sanitised,” Shelbizleee told Broadly, while Jugan also scrubs his clean before selling, using products like Windex.

We don’t know what’s more amazing about this: that people are prepared to put product found in bins on their faces, to hell with the very real bacteria that could be lurking in them, or the way it speaks to the power of luxury beauty items. If someone’s willing to dive into a bin in the dead of night for an inch worth of Chanel No. 5, the house’s marketing team are doing their job right.

Shelbizleee cites reducing waste as her main motivation. “If you think this is gross, I could not care less,” she says in her video.” I think this is awesome, I think what I’m doing is good for the planet, and if you have a different opinion, like, whatever.”

Bizarre new twist in (already bizarre) Craiglist rape fantasy case

She claimed to be the victim of fraud and attempted rape. But Angela Diaz may have been the real villain all along

 The six men showed up at her apartment, one by one. Each threatened Angela Diaz with rape or assault. One even ripped open the 31 year old’s shirt and left red marks on her throat, before she was able to free herself and dial 911.

They were shocking encounters – made all the more horrifying by the fact that all the men claimed to be responding to a Craigslist ad that Ms Diaz herself had posted.

In the ad, Ms Diaz supposedly claimed to fantasise about rape, and invited men to have “forcible sexual intercourse with her, even if she screamed or resisted”. The Craigslist post even included Diaz’s address and details of her daily routine.

There was just one problem: Diaz said she never wrote the posts.

The case made headlines in the US – and around the world – especially after Ms Diaz told police that her husband’s ex-girlfriend Michelle Hadley was behind the fraudulent Craigslist posts.

Ms Hadley was duly arrested and charged with stalking and attempting forcible rape.

But now there’s a new twist in what is already a bizarre case.

Late last week authorities revealed that the allegations against Ms Hadley were all false; Ms Diaz was behind the Craiglists ads all along.

Ms Hadley was an “innocent victim of a diabolical scheme” the Orange County District Attorney’s Office told the Washington Post.

Prosecutors exonerated Ms Hadley – who spent 88 days in prison altogether – of all charges, and instead charged Diaz with kidnapping, false imprisonment, perjury and other crimes.

“It’s often said that true life is stranger than fiction,” District Attorney Tony Rackauckas said in a news conference. “The facts of this case make that statement spot on.”

Mr Rackauckas speculated that the case was part of a twisted “love triangle”. Ms Diaz is married to Ian Diaz, a US Marshal, who dated Ms Hadley for two years between 2013 and 2015.

The police realised that Ms Diaz was the mastermind behind the Craiglists post when “after months of painstaking investigations” they realised that emails supposedly sent from Ms Hadley to Ms Diaz had in fact been sent by Ms Diaz herself using a complex web of virtual private networks and third party servers.

Diaz was arrested in Phoenix on Friday. Meanwhile Michelle Hadley’s lawyer has said that the development was a “huge relief” to the 29-year-old student. This has been a huge nightmare for me..probably the most traumatic experience of my life,” a weeping Ms Hadley told the LA Times.

Starting Work Before 10am Is Comparable to ‘Torture’, Says Study

In case anyone was after confirmation, yes – early mornings suck. They especially suck on weekdays when you have to brave public transport and go to work and are actually expected to be a functioning adult.

Sadly however, until society evolves and we no longer need to invest our time in exchange for money in order to survive, we’ll just need to suck it up.

But considering the average person spends roughly 30 per cent of their life at work, does it not make sense to want to spend it in the least pain possible? Enter science.

Science has got your back. Not only has it proven that drinking wine before bed will help you lose weight, it backed it up with proof that eating cheese every day is good for you.

And now for its latest act: science is pushing for a 10am start on work days, comparing 9am starts to ‘torture.’

A new study out of Oxford University found that forcing staff to start work before 10am is making employees ill, exhausted and stressed. Before the age of 55, the circadian rhythms of adults are totally out of sync with the average 9-5 working hours, posing a serious threat to employees’ performance, mood and mental health.

Study author Dr Paul Kelley says sleep deprivation is particularly damaging on the body’s physical, emotional and performance systems.

“Your liver and your heart have different patterns and you’re asking them to shift two or three hours. This is an international issue. Everybody is suffering and they don’t have to,” says Kelley.

And contrary to popular belief, no – you cannot change your circadian rhythms. 

“We cannot change our 24-hour rhythms,” said Kelly. “You cannot learn to get up at a certain time. Your body will be attuned to sunlight and you’re not conscious of it because it reports to hypothalamus, not sight.”

Just one week with less than six hours sleep each night leads to 711 changes in how genes in your body function. Lack of sleep impacts performance, attention and long term-memory, and can also lead to exhaustion, anxiety, frustration, anger, impulsiveness, weight-gain, risk-taking and high blood pressure.

So when you’re forced to wake up or go to work earlier than what your body wants to, your sleep deprivation is putting your body under a huge amount of stress, and “sleep deprivation is a torture.”

So what can you do? Well maybe don’t (actually, just don’t) accuse your boss of torturing you, but perhaps raise the topic of coming into work a bit later and back it up with the potential benefits like higher quality work, a greater work ethic and an improved mood.

Speaking to Women’s Wear Daily, Field revealed that the show’s producers took some convincing, but luckily they ultimately trusted her vision.

SJP also recently opened up about the iconic look (which she recreated in the first Sex and the City movie), saying she was “thrilled” the producers agreed to it.

Raise your hand, first time mummies, if you naively thought you’d slip back into your skinny jeans minutes after popping out your beloved baby? Ok, not minutes, but did you expect to be faced with a saggy empty belly that felt all squishy after birth?

Nope neither did I. And truth be told, it was a bit of a shock – but that’s because no one really told me  – even though it seems so obvious in hindsight.

Looking back, I think I was suffering from expectation that my body should snap back into shape, instead of enjoying the change and letting vanity take a back seat for a while. Coming to terms with the disappointment tainted my first few days of motherhood, and if I could change anything about the experience, it would be that – oh ok, and maybe a bit more sleep as well.

And that’s exactly why we love this picture by photographer Lacey Barratt, who has shared the raw honesty of her own body after birth.

The fact that this images has been shared and liked and celebrated across social media is very good news because it shows the the tide is turning away from pressure to be back to pre-baby body. It’s an enormously important step helping mummies embrace their new body, the changes and the challenges. Parenthood is about earning the scars, working with the new and not looking back (well maybe, but in a happy-to-be-me misty-eyed kind of a way).


It’s time to be real about the changes and approach brand-new motherhood more gently, without judging body shapes and sizes. Our favourite example of this? Kate Middleton leaving hospital with wee bonny Prince George in her arms, blissfully glowing, hair flowing and just the tiny suggestion of a post-baby belly reminding us all that’s what a real woman looks like.

Julie Bishop has come under fire for attending a polo event at taxpayers’ expense.

The Foreign Affairs Minister billed taxpayers $2716 to attend the Portsea Polo in Victoria last January.

She is the latest politician to face scrutiny over taxpayer-funded travel following claims that Health Minister Sussan Ley flew to the Gold Coast on a taxpayer-funded trip, and bought an $800,000 apartment.

The Portsea Polo is an annual event held on the Mornington Penninsula that attracts a fashionable crowd of celebrities, socialites and influencers.

Last year, The AFR described The Foreign Affairs Minister as “the star attraction” in the VIP marquee. 

Ms Bishop spent $2177 on flights from Perth to Melbourne via Sydney, as well as $416 for car travel and a further $123 for the MPs’ standard travel allowance, according to The Sydney Morning Herald. 

One Nation’s Pauline Hanson has argued today that MPs who make false claims should be fined, according to News.com.au

Ms Bishop’s office was contacted for comment.

Have you ever noticed that that the Duchess of Cambridge almost always carries a clutch?

While granted we’re not likely to see her slinging a tote over her shoulder, and a cross body bad isn’t exactly fitting for royal, it does strike us as a little odd she carries anything at all – surely she has an assistant at the ready for anytime her lippy needs a touch up or she needs a tissue or she wants to check her Instagram.

So begs the question, why carry anything at all?

According to etiquette expert Myka Meier its actually a polite way for Kate to avoid shaking hands with people.

“When the Duchess is at an event, she holds her bag in front of her in both hands when shaking hands might be awkward,” Meier tells Good Housekeeping. http://www.goodhousekeeping.co.uk/

Being the newbie royal that she is she wants to shake hands with everyone, so this gives her an excuse to not feel bad about it.

However another etiquette expert, William Hanson, has also weighed in.

“The Duchess of Cambridge may well prefer not to shake hands with certain people – but there are other ways to achieve this, as used by The Queen and other members of the royal family,” Hanson tells the Mail Online.

“It is protocol that you do not extend your hand to any member of the royal family (blood royal or those who have married in to the family) unless their hand extends first.

“With more experience, The Duchess of Cambridge will soon realise that she needn’t be too nice, extend and shake hands with everyone,” he added.

“A courteous smile at those whom she does not have time to shake hands will suffice.”

Roxy Jacenko reveals her intense workout and diet regime

Whatever your opinion of PR whiz Roxy Jacenko, one thing is certain: 2016 was not her year. Not only was her husband Oliver Curtis sentenced to two years for insider trading, she was also diagnosed with breast cancer.

“When your life flashes in front of you in more ways than one, as it has this year for me, it’s not so hard to find the hours to ensure you do what you can to keep yourself healthy not only for yourself but for your family,” Jacenko revealed to the Daily Mail. “I’ve got to be fit and healthy for my Pix and Hunty.”

After her oncologist recommended regular exercise during radiation treatment and thereafter, Jacenko adopted a new approach. Her hardcore workout regimen includes three weights sessions a week with trainer Dan Adair at Sydney gym 98 Riley Street – “I do weights only training and what feels like a million weighted squats and plenty of sit-ups on a ball,” she says – plus two weekly F45 cardio classes, which, as anyone who’s survived one can attest, are not for the faint-hearted.

The results of her new approach were clear for all to see on her recent Hawaii holiday, during which Jacenko posted a series of snaps flaunting her toned physique.

Jacenko supplements her exercise plan with a strict diet. “I’m very careful with what I eat – basically a sashimi sushi diet daily, washed down with a couple of green juices a day,” she says.

Halcyon House has nabbed the top spot on Mr & Mrs Smith’s 2016 hotel awards.

After polling over 25,000 of its readers, the travel site named the Cabarita Beach hotel the best in the world, beating out runners up 11 Howard in New York and Hôtel Providence Paris.

I can vouch for the win, having spent my honeymoon at Halcyon House in November. A sleepy surf town on the northern coast of New South Wales isn’t necessarily where I expected to spend my post-wedding escape, but Instagram-worthy interiors, attentive yet laid-back staff and a knockout restaurant, Paper Daisy, made it well worth the visit. Add a picture-perfect beachside location and the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in and the renovated 1960s motel well and truly lives up to the hype.

When Donald Trump hit back at Meryl Streep’s Golden Globes speech for accusing him of mocking a disabled reporter, he messed with the wrong actress.

Why? Because calling Meryl Streep ‘overrated’ is like telling Michael Jordan he needs to work on his game.

Naturally, celebrities came to Meryl Streep’s defence with fellow actors George Clooney and Ben Affleck in absolute disbelief over the comments.

George Clooney wasn’t impressed by Trump’s attempt to bring down the 19-time-Academy-Award-nominated actress. He told The Guardian reporters that he thought the president-elect should have more pressing priorities.

“Aren’t you supposed to be running the country?” he said. “I didn’t vote for him, I don’t support him, I don’t think he’s the right choice. At this moment in our lives we have to hope that he doesn’t destroy everything. The reality is you have to hope he will do a decent job because if the United States fails, really terrible things happen, so you have to hope that he can. I don’t see any signs of it … I think we’re going to be a little unlucky now.”

He also added in jest that he agreed, he’s ‘always said’ Meryl Streep was the most ‘overrated’ actress.

“She’s maybe the most overrated actress of all time,” he said. “She and I worked together on Fantastic Mr. Fox as husband and wife and I will tell you even as a fox, a female fox, she’s overrated.”

Meanwhile Ben Affleck was incredibly amused by Trump’s choice of jibe. He spoke on Jimmy Kimmel about the tweets. 

“If there’s one thing truly in the world that we know is not true, it’s that Meryl Streep is overrated,” Affleck said. “It’s like [saying] Gandhi: terrible leader! Pick a better shot rather than the person whose photograph actually accompanies ‘great actress.’”

The Internet also came to Meryl Streep’s defence, and were completely outraged by Trump’s comments.

In fact, a hashtag started called #ThingsTrumpThinksAreOverrated and it is pretty damn funny.

Cellulite. We all have it. 

But rather than feeling bad about our cottage-cheese thighs, body-positive Instagrammer Gabi Gregg is here to tell you that enough is enough!

The model took to Instagram to share a powerful message with her 450,000 followers, saying: ‘[A] reminder that cellulite is normal and nothing to be ashamed of (and also depends on lighting! You can literally see mine “disappear”…)’

In the short video, below, Gregg can be seen strutting forwards on a mirrored runway. At first, the back of Gregg’s legs appear to be brimming with cellulite. 

The beauty blogger then saunters out of the shadows to reveal soft, sleek looking skin clear of any imperfections. 

The dark haired beauty is known to advocate for inclusion and size-diversity in the modelling industry, using the viral video as part of the promotion for her new swimwear range, which features a collection of swimsuits for sizes 12 – 24.

The video has been viewed more than 45,000 times.

When you’re a world-famous model and social media darling, you’re an easy target for critics – as Cara Delevingne found out earlier this week.  

On Sunday, the Suicide Squad star posted a tweet to her seven million Twitter followers: “On my way to do something incredibly exciting and I am very nervous”. 

The model and actor was then lambasted by @BradTheLadLong, who tweeted “…hopefully an interview for a real job. Your looks will fade, Cara. You can’t cash in on your eyebrows forever.”

Fortunately the straight-talking model had the perfect comeback.

“You will regret saying that. I am actually trying to do something good. This has nothing to do with my ‘looks’,” Delevingne retorted. “You are just another thirsty man who puts people down for attention on Twitter and who thinks that looks are all that’s important”.

“Try doing something for the world, period! I have no time no another man trying to tear down a woman for being successful.”

The “something incredibly exciting” Cara was talking about?

She was meeting with South Sudanese refugees on a trip with UNHCR, the UN’s refugee agency, as part of its GirlUp campaign, which aims to improve education and school enrollment among refugee girls.

Sounds like a real job to us.
